Chapter 367 The Name of Reaper
As soon as Eric logged in, his screen lit up with a barrage of notification sounds.
"Wow, looks like everyone wants a piece of me," Eric muttered, opening the system panel to check. Most of the notifications were friend requests and messages, many from high-ranking members of top guilds, all eager to buy out the Guild of Aether Wing, with prices open for negotiation.
But some of the top guilds had a different angle. They were offering Eric a spot in their guild, promising he'd jump straight to a senior position with a hefty share of the guild's assets. Eric scratched his head, wondering when he had become such a hot commodity.
"Even Ethan sent a message. Now that's a twist," Eric noted, a bit taken aback to see a message from someone named Shadowstorm. Although they hadn't officially declared war, Eric and The Stygian Alliance were pretty much at each other's throats. Given Ethan's prideful nature, it was surprising he wasn't trying to take Eric down, let alone reach out. This was totally out of character for Ethan.
Eric opened the message and couldn't help but chuckle.
"Ethan's change of heart is lightning fast. No wonder he's in The Stygian Alliance's management."
In the message, Ethan agreed to Eric's previous demands, offering to invest 1 billion credits in Aether Wing for a 10% stake, with further details to be hashed out later.
"What the heck has been going on in Divine Realms: Legends lately?" Eric wondered, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sudden turn of events.
The battle for Silvervale City alone shouldn't have caused such a drastic change in Ethan's behavior. There had to be another reason.
Although the Guild of Aether Wing had gained significant influence in Silvervale City, there were hundreds of cities in Eldoria. The loss or gain of one city shouldn't matter much to a top guild, especially one as powerful as The Stygian Alliance.
Moreover, several other major guilds in Divine Realms: Legends had also expressed interest in recruiting Eric, offering insanely high prices. Something definitely felt off.
Unable to figure it out, Eric decided to check the official forum of Divine Realms: Legends.
What he saw blew his mind.
The Eldoria forum section was flooded with posts about BlackFlame and the expert rankings.
"Eldoria's Number One: BlackFlame!"
"Top 500 Players in Eldoria!"
"Legendary Warrior: One Man, One Battle, Thousands of Kills!"
"Guild of Aether Wing Ranked Number One in Overall Strength!"
Among these posts, the most popular one was titled "The One-Blade Reaper," pinned at the top with millions of views. Eric clicked on it out of curiosity.
Ranked 481st on the expert list, BlackFlame, a Swordsman, had earned the title of Reaper.
BlackFlame had fought numerous battles in Silvervale City, once killing the Darkstar Guild's leader, RogueVortex, while being surrounded by thousands of Darkstar Guild members. Later, he faced hundreds of elite players in Silvervale City, defeating them effortlessly with a single sword strike, and then escaped unscathed after killing thousands more.
Heavenly Secret Pavilion's evaluation: One man, one sword, as formidable as the Reaper.
Heavenly Secret Pavilion awarded him the title of Reaper.
The post included several classic battle videos of BlackFlame.
"This BlackFlame is unreal, a true inspiration for us Swordsmen. I gotta become his disciple. I've heard that Heavenly Secret Pavilion rarely gives out titles, and when they do, it's a big deal. It's just that there aren't enough battle records to rank him higher."
"That's a no-brainer. One man, one sword. Did you see him take down that level 19 Shield Warrior with a single strike? He wiped out over a hundred people in seconds. With skills like that, he should be ranked first, not 481st. This has to be a cover-up by Heavenly Secret Pavilion, using the Reaper title to downplay his achievements."
"I was on the fence about joining Aether Wing before, but now I'm heading straight to Silvervale City. I'm not joining any guild but Aether Wing."
"You're still hesitating? I've already made it to Silvervale City. I heard Aether Wing offers amazing perks. Their weapons and gear are top-notch, especially for core members. Wearing Mithril Level gear is considered embarrassing; it's at least Adamantite or higher. Plus, Aether Wing has a guild base with private rooms that members can rent. Once I join Aether Wing, I'll outshine those big guild leaders in no time."
Eric's Reaper title and the benefits offered by Aether Wing were hot topics among players. BlackFlame and Aether Wing had become incredibly popular in Eldoria, far surpassing the fame of top guilds like Stellar Alliance and Devouring Serpents.
Since Aether Wing didn't recruit players from outside the city, Silvervale City had become the go-to place for new recruits. Players from all over Eldoria flocked to Silvervale City, causing a massive increase in the city's player population. Aether Wing was quickly becoming the dominant force in Silvervale City.
Alongside the widespread fame of The One-Blade Reaper, there were also many accusations, calling Eric a despicable scoundrel.
They claimed he had led the Mechanical Slaughterer to kill innocent players, causing widespread suffering. They demanded that Eric compensate them by handing over all the Mechanical Slaughterer's loot. These accusations were orchestrated by RogueVortex of Darkstar Guild and other guild leaders who had previously hunted Eric.
Their hatred for Eric was immense.
Players killed by the Mechanical Slaughterer lost two levels, had to wait a full day to respawn, and suffered a weakened state for two days, with all attributes reduced by 30% and experience gain halved.
Darkstar Guild had already suffered significant losses in the recent battle, but RogueVortex hadn't anticipated that this was just the beginning of their nightmare. How could they compete with other guilds now?
Other guilds were in a similar situation. Their eyes were bloodshot with rage, realizing how foolish they had been to hunt Eric.
Their hearts broke at the thought.
Despite their regret and constant accusations of Eric's despicable behavior, no one paid them any attention. Instead, it became a joke that boosted Aether Wing's reputation.
"So that's it. Ranked 481st with a title. No wonder top guilds from other kingdoms and empires are offering such high prices, and even Ethan shamelessly wants to invest," Eric thought, finally understanding.
Divine Realms: Legends had countless players, many of whom were highly skilled, but only 1008 players made it onto the expert list, representing the pinnacle of the game's players.
Being on the expert list was a testament to a guild's strength and status. The more players a guild had on the list, and the higher their ranks, the stronger and more promising the guild was. Therefore, expert list players became highly sought after by top guilds and major corporations.
Even a player like RedFeather, ranked in the 900s, was treated like a treasure by the Stellar Alliance, holding a significant share of the guild. Eric, ranked in the top 500 and the highest-ranked player in Eldoria with a title, was naturally even more valuable.
Eric was about to contact Rosewater to appraise the loot when Ethan from The Stygian Alliance sent a communication request, astonishingly quick.
