Chapter 15 Joy Turns to Sorrow
Time passed slowly.
Eric and Tonny weren't idle either, killing Level 4 roaming goblins not far from the Red Star Mine.
The roaming goblins, common Level 4 creatures, had 400 health points. Compared to Kobolds, the roaming goblins were more agile and good at dodging, but their attack and defense weren't that great. Moreover, the Darkmoon Valley hadn't been developed yet. There were relatively more small monsters here, and no one had claimed them. There was no need to go out of the way to find monsters to kill.
Eric was already a Level 3 swordsman, while Tonny was a Level 2 wizard. With Eric engaging the goblins upfront, the daggers of the roaming goblins couldn't touch the nimble and agile Eric. Meanwhile, Tonny, after drinking Black Iron Beer, was outputting fiercely from behind, easily killing the roaming goblins. The efficiency was faster than grinding Kobolds.
In front of the Red Star Mine, batches of Kobolds lay at the entrance, with various ores and copper coins scattered all over the ground.
"Blazeclaw, this place is amazing. In just over half an hour, everyone is at Level 2, and we've made so much money."
"Let's keep it up; you three attract some more monsters. As long as we keep grinding, we can level up to Level 3 in three to four hours."
Blazeclaw excitedly directed the three Assassins who had just arrived to attract more Kobolds. The magic classes were now at Level 2, and the speed of killing Kobolds had also increased significantly. Luring over thirty Kobolds at once wasn't even challenging.
"Blazeclaw, there are drops here," a berserker shouted, holding a book in his hand.
"Bring it over, let me take a look," Blazeclaw, upon seeing the loot, licked his dry lips and chuckled.
Blazeclaw took the book and burst into laughter.
"This is amazing! We worked so hard to find this place, and not only have I occupied it, but now I have a rare swordsman skill book. I really want to see the regret on his face."
"Blazeclaw, I saw that kid when I came here. They were still killing roaming goblins around here. I guess they have their eyes on this place and are unwilling to let it go. Otherwise, we could go over and kill them to prevent any surprises," Shadowfang's eyes gleamed with coldness, full of resentment towards Eric for killing him twice.
Blazeclaw waved his hand dismissively, sneering, "Let them watch. Let them see how we quickly level up and make money, becoming the overlords of Willowbrook Town, while they can only watch with regret and bitterness. Just thinking about it feels great."
Although Shadowfang was somewhat resentful, the thought of Eric toiling outside killing roaming goblins and the satisfaction of knowing that Eric was struggling made him feel content.
"Just wait; once I reach Level 6, it will be your death," Shadowfang had not given up on killing Eric. On the contrary, the anticipation of reaching Level 6 and then killing Eric filled him with excitement.
Meanwhile, 180 feet south of the Red Star Mine, Eric, hiding behind trees, kept a close eye on Blazeclaw and the others.
"Eric, can we handle this?" Tonny sounded concerned.
These eleven individuals weren't ordinary players; they were elite players selected through the ShadowForge Studios assessment. Moreover, there were two healers among them. It was impossible for just the two of them to take down these players.
"Don't worry, the time is almost up. Let's just sit back and watch the show," Eric glanced at the time and calmly said, "You stand at the back later. Whoever is low on health, take them out. Don't let a single one escape."
"The time is almost up?" Tonny was puzzled.
Eric pointed to the smoke at the entrance of the Red Star Mine and smiled, "Blazeclaw thinks he can level up by killing monsters quickly. But the smoke bomb we set before leaving has a time limit. Now, we are just two minutes away from an hour. They think they've taken over my territory, so they must be enjoying themselves. Now, I'll show them how to behave."
Tonny suddenly understood and admired Eric even more.
"Perfect! Those bastards from ShadowForge Studios are in big trouble now," Tonny grinned.
They were able to take down Kobolds without any injuries because of the smoke bomb. Without it, they wouldn't stand a chance. If the smoke bomb was gone, the consequences would be terrifying.
Two minutes later, the smoke in front of the Red Star Mine began to dissipate slowly.
"Blazeclaw, why is the smoke dispersing?" An Elementalist noticed the disappearing smoke and asked Blazeclaw.
"The smoke is clearing. Can this be true?" Blazeclaw, who was lying down, suddenly sat up and looked over. The smoke at the entrance of the mine had indeed dissipated. "Since it's gone, it's gone. The smoke might be periodic. Let's not worry about it and continue killing monsters."
Just as Blazeclaw finished speaking, all the dumbfounded and non-aggressive Kobolds turned their attention to the people from ShadowForge Studios.
More than forty Kobolds, with bloodshot eyes, let out angry roars as they finally identified the people who had been attacking them all along and swarmed toward them.
The members of ShadowForge Studios were caught off guard and were instantly overwhelmed by the Kobold horde. Level 2 players couldn't withstand the attacks of three Kobolds, let alone a group of them.
Within moments, seven people were dead, and the members at the back were in chaos, desperately trying to flee.
However, the Kobolds were fast and soon caught up with the fleeing magic classes. With a hammer blow to each Mage's head, all the Mages fell to the ground.
"What the hell is going on? Why are these Kobolds suddenly going berserk?" Blazeclaw, who realized the situation was dire, cursed as he ran away.
After many members had leveled up to Level 2, now that they had died, they all reverted back to Level 1. Three Assassins were even reduced to Level 0, a huge loss. With members coming and going, the dream of becoming the overlords of Willowbrook Town was shattered. The levels of ShadowForge Studios were now lower than those of ordinary players, trailing behind other guilds significantly.
Blazeclaw's heart was bleeding.
"Here we meet again," Eric blocked Blazeclaw's escape route, smiling nonchalantly.
Seeing Eric's smirk, even if Blazeclaw was foolish, he understood that the Kobold riot was definitely Eric's doing.
"You're done for; you actually tricked me. If I don't reduce you to Level 0, I won't be able to swallow this grudge." Blazeclaw, enraged, lifted his shield and swung it towards Eric.
Compared to the others from ShadowForge Studios, Blazeclaw's skills were clearly superior.
Blazeclaw used the large shield to block Eric's vision and simultaneously stabbed at Eric's vital points with a short sword, a simple yet ruthless move that was hard to defend against.
However, Blazeclaw's confident strike missed.
"Where is he?" Blazeclaw stared ahead, but there was no sign of Eric.
"I'm right here," Eric stood behind Blazeclaw and struck with his sword.
-36 damage appeared on Blazeclaw's head, reducing his health from 220 to 184 in an instant.
Blazeclaw was hit, and he quickly turned around to use Shield Bash..
Eric had anticipated Blazeclaw's move. He stepped back, dodging behind the shield, then swiftly moved behind Blazeclaw and struck again with his sword.
Without any skill bonuses, facing the high defense of the Shield Warrior, Eric only dealt 23 points of damage.
"You coward. If you're brave enough, don't hide. I'll take you down right away." Blazeclaw, unable to land a hit on the agile Eric, saw his health continuously dropping. With no way to counter Eric's attacks, Blazeclaw resorted to taunting, hoping to provoke Eric into making a mistake.
"Sure, I'll just stand here. Come and attack me," Eric replied without hesitation.
Blazeclaw chuckled. He didn't expect Eric to be so foolish; it was just a provocation, but Eric fell for it immediately.
"Watch how I kill you," Blazeclaw said, raising his shield and charging toward Eric. If Eric didn't dodge, Blazeclaw would rely on brute force. In terms of strength, he wouldn't lose.
However, Blazeclaw was disappointed.
Just as he charged to within six feet of Eric, Eric unleashed Thunderbolt.
Three lightning bolts pierced through the shield, through Blazeclaw's body. Three high damage numbers, -28, -35, and -41, appeared on Blazeclaw's head. His health plummeted to zero in an instant.
"You are despicable!" Blazeclaw glared at Eric, seething with anger and spitting blood. If he hadn't charged forward, this skill definitely wouldn't have hit him entirely.
"You're safe, Blazeclaw. I said I'd stand still, but I never said I wouldn't fight back. Why were you so naive to charge at me?" Eric shrugged, indicating it was all an accident. "By the way, I really have to thank Blazeclaw for providing me with so many ores. It saved me a lot of trouble."
Blazeclaw wanted to say something to Eric, but his body had already dissipated into stardust, unable to utter a word, leaving behind a pile of ores and a book.
