Chapter 93 Shadowweaver Darkcaster

The spiral staircase led directly to the core control area at the top.

Eric climbed an unknown number of stairs before reaching the corridor leading to the core area. The walls flanking the corridor were engraved with ancient magical runes. Even after nearly a thousand years, the corridor still had some light, although certain areas were too decayed, breaking the carved magical circuits and plunging those parts into darkness. Luckily, there were only a few decayed circuits, enabling him to see the entire narrow, labyrinthine corridor.

As soon as Eric stepped into the corridor, alarms sounded again.

"Alert, intruder has entered Fortress Zone A, Arcane Corridor. Sentinel Golem activated, expel all intruders."

A tremendous rumble echoed through the corridor as if some massive machine was moving.

Eric did not dare to advance cautiously. He utilized a speed scroll and sprinted through the Arcane Corridor.

After taking several turns in the Arcane Corridor, he saw a red-glowing machine, about the size of a soccer ball, continuously emitting warnings, seemingly guiding the Sentinel Golem.

Vigilant Guardian, common monster, level 10, HP 200.

Eric immediately understood why he was so easily discovered. This Vigilant Guardian was like a radar, capable of detecting enemies within a 1500-foot radius. Once detected, the alarm would sound.. The corridor entrance was roughly 1500 feet away, so he was discovered. He needed to eliminate it to disable the alarm in this area.

However, this thing was compassionate. It wouldn't let any enemy get within 90 feet. Once attacked, the Vigilant Guardian would retreat desperately and speed up calling its companions, never giving the player a second chance to attack. It was tough to deal with.

"I have no other option but to give it a try.." Eric drew his dual swords. He could already hear the roar of the Sentinel Golem behind him. With his strength, in such a confined space, he was doomed unless he eliminated the Vigilant Guardian to shake off the Sentinel Golem.

As Eric approached the 90-foot range, the Vigilant Guardian was about to flee.

Eric's eyes locked onto the Vigilant Guardian, his arms tensed, and he hurled both swords with all his might.

The swords flew towards the Vigilant Guardian.

Precision Strike!

The throwing distance was exactly 90 feet, dealing 150% weapon damage.

The Vigilant Guardian was vigilant, quickly moving to dodge the incoming Crimson Edge, but it moved right into the path of the second sword, Abyssal Blade.

The Abyssal Blade pierced through the Vigilant Guardian, dealing 211 damage, instantly killing it.

System: [Killed Vigilant Guardian, over-level kill, experience increased by 400%, gained 800 experience points.]

Eric activated Zephyr Stride, boosting his speed further. He pulled the two swords from the ground and rushed towards the Arcane Corridor's exit. Devoid of the Vigilant Guardian's guidance, the Sentinel Golem resembled a disoriented insect, wandering aimlessly and unable to locate Eric.

Over ten minutes later, Eric had taken down three more Vigilant Guardians and finally exited the Arcane Corridor, arriving at the control room.

In the center of the control room was a huge barrier, inside which lay a dark gray metal. This metal was the heart and energy source of the entire Fortress of Steel Shells, the Heart of the Titan.

"I didn't expect anyone to come here after all these years."

Before Eric could examine the control room, a chilling laugh came from the entrance of the central barrier. The voice emitted was frigid and devoid of emotion, not resembling anything a human could produce, but rather akin to that of a puppet or lifeless corpse.

"Welcome to my fortress, Barutia Peaks. To celebrate your arrival, I have decided to feed my pet with your warm flesh. Come out, Infernal Hound!"

Eric could vaguely see a humanoid figure inside the barrier, seemingly absorbing the energy of the Heart of the Titan. It didn't have the energy to deal with him directly, so it sent out its pet.

A massive, singed canine, engulfed in flames from head to toe, burst out of the barrier.

Infernal Hound, elite level, level 15, HP 6000.

"Damn, did I come at the wrong time?" Eric frowned at the sight of the Infernal Hound. According to information from his previous life, there were no creatures or monsters here, and the person safely took the Heart of the Titan. Why did a mysterious figure appear when it was his turn, trying to steal the Heart of the Titan's energy?

However, Eric also thought of a possibility.

Perhaps this person first stole the Heart of the Titan's energy, and the player only took an energy-less Heart of the Titan. He was just unlucky when he encountered the energy thief. Unfortunately, he couldn't even defeat the mysterious figure's pet, let alone the figure himself.

"If it's a fight, then bring it on." Eric drew his dual swords, watching the approaching Infernal Hound.

As the Infernal Hound got closer, Eric felt the surroundings become unbearably hot, making his mouth dry and parched. He wanted to grab an ice-cold drink but couldn't afford to make a move. Any movement would be a flaw and a level 15 elite had high intelligence. It approached slowly, knowing the best time to attack. Once he showed a flaw, it would bite down relentlessly until he was dead.

In their standoff, the Infernal Hound, being the stronger party, wouldn't wait forever. In a sudden motion, it leaped, transforming into a blazing fireball, its fiery jaws targeting Eric's neck.

Eric rolled to the side, dodging the pounce.

But as the Infernal Hound landed, its fiery claws swept horizontally.

Eric was prepared, parrying with his dual swords.

Although he wasn't harmed, Eric was sent flying.

The Infernal Hound opened its jaws, spewing scorching flames that engulfed Eric, leaving him no escape.

Gritting his teeth, Eric used Phantom Slay, switching places with his airborne clone at the last moment.

The clone was instantly consumed by flames, turning to ashes, with the System showing a damage of 3000 points. Even at total health with a life shield, he couldn't withstand that attack.

Eric realized the Infernal Hound's power. Such damage was beyond a level 15 elite, likely due to the storyline, significantly suppressing its strength. Based on his experience, he estimated the Infernal Hound's level to be at least 30, likely a lord-level boss.

If the pet was so powerful, what about the master?

Seeing the Infernal Hound's fiery claws coming again, Eric used Abyssal Bind. No matter how strong, it would be bound for 3 seconds. He then rushed into the central barrier. At this moment, grabbing the Heart of the Titan and escaping quickly was the best choice.

But as soon as he entered, seeing the mysterious figure's true face, Eric was stunned.

"Shadowweaver Darkcaster!" Eric immediately recognized the mysterious figure, shocked, "What's this guy doing here?"
