Chapter 392 Will of the Gods
"Looks like it worked."
Eric watched as the blue glow from the key flowed into the golden door, which immediately began to shine like the sun, lighting up the entire Eternal Courtyard.
The golden door creaked open slowly, and a blast of icy cold air rushed out. Eric reacted quickly, jumping back.
But being in the water slowed him down, and he still got hit by the cold air.
Eric felt a sharp, cutting pain, and his health dropped by 2000 points instantly.
"This cold is brutal."
Eric glanced at his health bar. Luckily, his ice resistance was high enough; otherwise, he would have been toast. He quickly pulled out a mid-level Restorative potion from his backpack and chugged it, restoring a significant amount of health.
Even with 60 points of ice resistance, he lost 2000 health points in an instant. The cold inside the golden door must be extreme.
Fortunately, once the door was fully open, the cold air dispersed, and the inside was no longer as frigid.
Eric entered and found the hall filled with various golden statues, all depicting ancient deities.
Among the many statues, one stood out—a heroic man holding a sword aloft, positioned at the center of the hall. The ground around him was covered with swords, easily numbering over a thousand, all seemingly bowing to the man.
Even Eric's Demonic Weapon, Abyssal Blade, felt a slight pull, as if it wanted to fly over and submit to the man's feet.
Eric was stunned.
It was just a statue, yet it could make his formidable Demonic Weapon, Abyssal Blade, want to submit. How powerful must this man have been in life?
Below the statue was a deep blue crystal ball, emitting an incredible cold.
Seeing the crystal ball, Eric immediately understood.
The reason the entire pool was so cold was because of this deep blue crystal ball.
Eric's heart raced.
Anything that could make such a large pool so cold must be a treasure.
Eric quickly swam to the crystal ball, eager to see if he could take it.
Before his hand even touched the crystal ball, he felt a piercing pain in his fingers, and his health dropped by 1000 points, forcing him to abandon the attempt.
Looking at such a powerful treasure but unable to take it, Eric felt a pang of regret.
Just as Eric was about to search for other treasures, a system prompt sounded.
System: The will of the ancient deity permeates the entire Eternal Hall. Do you wish to submit to this will?
Eric was unsure what was happening, but a commanding voice echoed in his mind.
"Submit to me, and I will grant you unparalleled power, making even the gods tremble. From now on, you will be the strongest in this world!"
"Submit to me, and you will gain eternal life, becoming the everlasting master of this world!"
The enticing voices in his mind made Eric momentarily lose himself, almost ready to choose submission.
But just as Eric was about to speak, memories of his past flashed through his mind.
In his previous life, he refused to submit to the Supremacy Alliance and was eventually kicked out of Divine Realms: Legends by ShadowForge Studios. Yet, he did not give up and started anew.
In this life, he faced the Martial Alliance, the Darkstar Guild, and the Stygian Alliance. He could have chosen submission for a better life, but he didn't.
He didn't want to be controlled by others, to have his fate dictated, to become a puppet.
Now, they wanted him to submit?
Just as Eric was about to refuse, the commanding voice spoke again, trying to tempt him: "Don't you want to be the ruler of this world? Submit to me, and I will give you everything you desire!"
"If that's the case, I only want the ability to say 'no.' Can you give me that?" Eric said, choosing to refuse submission.
"Foolish mortal!"
"You will regret this choice!"
"If you won't be my servant, then die!"
Unable to tempt Eric, the will became furious, and the entire hall grew oppressive.
Suddenly, the thousand swords embedded in the ground rose, all aimed at Eric, ready to strike.
Eric tried to use his clone swap ability, but found he was magically bound and couldn't use it.
Unable to use the clone swap, Eric tried to move and defend, but his body wouldn't respond.
He could only watch as the swords flew towards him.
Just as the swords were about to pierce Eric, the deep blue crystal ball suddenly emitted a silver light, freezing all the swords in mid-air. It was as if time had stopped.
After a second, all the swords shattered like broken glass, scattering to the ground.
The oppressive feeling in the hall vanished, and Eric could move freely again.
"Damn it! Damn it!"
"You dare ruin my plans!"
"Even though this Heaven's Favored refused me, I can find another. You can't stop me, and this lowly Heaven's Favored will die here!"
The will was furious, and the hall began to tremble. The golden door slammed shut, and the hall started to collapse.
The deep blue crystal ball, which had been shining with silver light, now dimmed, losing its coldness.
Though Eric didn't know what had happened, he understood one thing clearly.
Escape!
Eric grabbed the deep blue crystal ball and put it in his backpack, then used his clone swap ability.
In the blink of an eye, Eric appeared outside the pool.
He had escaped with just one second to spare, a narrow escape.
"That was close. Good thing I had a backup plan, or I'd be dead." Eric looked at the exploding pool, feeling relieved.
The clone swap was truly a lifesaving skill.
Despite the close call, Eric had gained a treasure from the pool, making the trip worthwhile.
Thinking about the incredible power of the deep blue crystal ball, Eric couldn't help but feel excited.
The will was that of an ancient deity, and it had broken the deity's will. This was no ordinary treasure.
Eric eagerly opened his backpack to examine the deep blue crystal ball.
Even Legendary Level items couldn't compare to this.
But when Eric tried to read its data, it showed as unreadable. He then used the Omniscient Eye, and the result shocked him.
Even the Omniscient Eye, which could analyze Eternity-Sundering Relics, couldn't decipher it...
Eric couldn't even touch it anymore; just a touch would reduce his health by 1000 points...
Eric was left helpless and had to abandon the idea of using it.
It seemed he would need to increase his ice resistance to one or two hundred points before he could use it.
Though the deep blue crystal ball was out of reach, the Book of Inheritance brought a pleasant surprise.
Just as Eric had guessed, the Eternal Courtyard was indeed a place to increase completion.
Now, the Book of Inheritance's completion has reached 92%, earning an SS rating.
