Chapter 73 Demon Mask

Seeing this series of System prompts, Eric was slightly surprised.

For him at level 4, a gain of 10,000 experience points wasn't particularly significant, only boosting him to 4th level by 27%, with still a considerable distance to reach level 5.

But it was the other rewards that caught his eye.

He had only killed a foolish elite demon, and he got such a generous reputation reward. It was unimaginable.

Reputation in Divine Realms: Legends held great value. Few quests could increase it, and even when they did, it was minimal.

With a high enough reputation, players could take on high-level quests that were otherwise inaccessible, buy items like Bronze Equipment and special potions, get discounts, and increase NPC favorability, bringing many conveniences.

Not to mention, players with enough reputation could become nobles.

In Divine Realms: Legends, the noble privileged class enjoyed many perks, symbolizing status. If a commoner provoked a noble, the consequences were severe, ranging from imprisonment to execution. No player dared to mess with nobles; even in safe zones, nobles could beat commoners without the guards intervening. That was the disparity in status.

Hence, Eric was taken aback by this revelation.

Having the noble title in Willowbrook Town would make things much easier for him. Eric thought of several high-level quests that only nobles could take.

"I wonder what use the Demonbane title has?" Eric opened the System panel to check the Demonbane title.

Demonbane was a revered warrior, a respected exorcist, and held a noble-like status wherever he went. He was a grim reaper feared by dark creatures, capable of reducing the attributes of dark-type monsters within a 300-foot radius by 10%, while increasing damage against such creatures by 10%.

"Damn, this title is awesome." Eric was a bit excited after reading the description. Anyone not well-versed in Divine Realms: Legends wouldn't know the significance of this title, just like a stray dog wouldn't know the value of a gem.

Eric had to reach 100 reputation points in Willowbrook Town to become a noble, but this noble status was limited to Willowbrook Town. Outside of it, no one would recognize it. Of course, if one were a noble of Silvervale City, their status would be recognized within Silvervale City's jurisdiction, making it more widely applicable. Compared to town nobles, the difference was noticeable.

Due to Demonbane's prestigious reputation, his noble status would be acknowledged not only within the kingdom of Eldoria but also by other nations. Given that some countries were not very friendly, and some even hostile, doing quests in differen countries wasn't easy and could easily lead to targeting. With this title, players wouldn't be targeted by NPCs, making the Demonbane title invaluable compared to the noble status in Willowbrook Town.

Eric picked up the equipment dropped by the Shadowfiend.

Demon Mask, a special item, allowed the wearer to disguise as another person. The disguise could not be seen through without advanced observation skills.

"This is great, totally worth the six gold coins." Eric happily put away the Demon Mask. This item was practically a tool for robbery; although he wouldn't use it for that, it could still be used for other purposes.

"Adventurer, the ritual is complete. It has weakened me significantly. I need to go to Silvervale City to recover for a while. If you are seeking information about the Abyssal Codex Fragments, come to Silvervale City and confront me, but make sure to bring the payment. I'll be waiting for you there." Sharon appeared very weak, unlike her usual sharp self. After speaking, she opened a magic portal and went to Silvervale City to recover.

Watching Sharon leave, Eric was secretly amazed.

This Lunar Essence ritual wasn't as simple as he had imagined. Otherwise, a third-tier Divine Officiant wouldn't be so weakened. Even Eric could sense that he could now defeat Sharon, which only demonstrated how weak she truly was.

"Forget it; this has nothing to do with me. Now that the curse is lifted, my attributes are restored, and I can start leveling up quickly. Reaching level 10 sooner will allow me to open the portal to Silvervale City first." Eric shrugged, not thinking about the big shots anymore. As a small fry, he had plenty to do, starting from scratch with everything in disarray. Competing with those guilds was out of the question; just being targeted by a giant demon was enough of a headache. He didn't have time to think about anything else. Eric then left the library to check on Violet Mistflow at the Cooks' Association.

As soon as Eric walked in the Willowbrook Town Trade District, he noticed something was off.

The sun was up, and players should have been in the Wilderness leveling up, but the streets were full of players talking excitedly as if celebrating a festival. Occasionally, some high-ranking members of major guilds would rush down the street, urgently shouting about high prices for game coins and offering higher prices for more coins.

Typically, Eric wouldn't have paid attention, but the entire street was filled with people buying game coins, which was unusual.

What had happened?

What could make these guild leaders start collecting game coins from ordinary players? Normally, these major guilds had their own gold farming teams or contractual agreements with professional gold farming teams, guaranteeing a consistent influx of in-game currency. Now, with the guilds doing this, it meant that even the game coins provided by the gold farming teams were insufficient.

Eric had been worrying about how to stimulate these major guilds' spending, but now it seemed unnecessary.

With a flick of his finger, Eric opened the virtual trading center to check the transaction status.

"Damn, what's going on? Sold out so fast!" Eric saw that the remaining two gold and 70 silver had sold, and over fifteen thousand credit points were being transferred.

He then checked the sales status of other Divine Realms: Legends game coins.

Now, the highest price for one silver coin had reached 72 credit points, with most people buying in bulk at 68 credit points, a significant increase.

As Eric was celebrating selling all his gold coins, a shout from behind interrupted his good mood.

"Boss, it's this guy. I saw him easily take out ten silver coins the other day, so he must be rich. Given our guild's dire need for funds, we cannot simply let him off the hook without making him suffer some loss." Simon Hemdrift, with a group of people, pointed at Eric and sneered.

"Hey, did you beat up my friend?" The Boss snorted, looking at Eric and questioning him. Then, Eric turned around and frowned slightly.

The Boss was as tall as Cola, with a face full of scars, and was about thirty years old. In his previous life, Eric had dealt with him. This man was named Leo Ironblade, also a Swordsman and one of the top experts in the Martial Alliance. He was powerful, having fought and killed Blazeclaw several times in the Wilderness, causing significant losses to their team and forcing them to retreat.

Even the Assassin Alliance's Thornheart had suffered at Leo Ironblade's hands, making Leo Ironblade famous and enabling the Martial Alliance to become a third-rate guild.

Eric was about to say something, but Leo Ironblade interrupted him.

Observing Eric's slender physique and decent gear, though lacking the aura of a top player or a guild emblem, Leo Ironblade concluded that Eric was merely a casual player who had purchased some equipment for appearance's sake. He arrogantly said, "You know the rules. If you beat up my guy, you owe me 20 silver coins. Pay up, and this ends here. Otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless."
