Chapter 3
The alpha fights were amazing all the guys are so strong. A couple of the fights were pretty fast and some not so much. The sun soon was high in the sky. Still, with three fights let to go the judges called for a meal break. I couldn’t blame him I could smell the meat cooking it was mouth-watering. Mary and I grabbed a plate and headed over to the field to eat. “what should we do about Edith and her family?” I ask. Mary taps her lips thinking before she says “well the men said that if there could be a problem you have to tell the alpha right?” I nod as that was part of keeping us safe. “then we have to tell the alpha when we have one I guess.” she shrugs. “I hope that it's not a problem and they get to stay close she's one of my only friends you know?” nodding at her again because I know. Mary and I are the oldest pups here the next being nine. So we only had Edith aside from each other.
Talking about who we had hoped for our alpha we decided it had to be my father or hers as they are strong and care about everyone here. As we walk back over to the ring I see the four men still in the running. Our fathers are still in the fighting man I wonder who wins in a fight mine or Mary's. Looking at the other two I notice they are looking at our dads with a good amount of fear in their eyes. They are smaller than our fathers. I got a gut feeling we only have one fight left. “bet you 2 weeks' chores my dad beats yours.” I say elbowing Mary in the ribs. “your on” she smiles wickedly at me.
“bet you a month's cores there won't be any beta fights.” she sings out “how stupid do you think I am Mary?” I fake hurt giving those sad puppy eyes at her. She smacks my arm and laughs “was worth a shot.” “you know this means one of us is the future alpha and the other in the future beta right?” I state the gravity of it all hitting us both. “you young pups are getting ahead of yourselves ain’t ya they still gots then other men to fight.” a snot-nosed john Greene sneers at us. “nope brat look at your dad and look at ours.” I say pointing at the ring. “do you notice anything?” Mary asks “like your father is pissing his pants looking at our fathers?” I ask “or that your father is still healing from his last fight and ours don’t look like they were even in a fight?” Mary sneers at him. “when my daddy is the alpha I am having kick you out or kill you.” he spits at us storming off like the spoiled six-year-old he is. Looking at Mary “wanna bet that family will be a problem and be kicked out or leaves?” I shake my head at what Mary asked with a half-smile. “I had the same though?”
The judges made the matches. It was my father against John's father. So either he gives up now or his father is going to make this a fast fight. Mary elbows me in the ribs. Looking at her she points to a scaling john. I just smile and wait both Mary and myself are now watching john instead of what's happening in the ring. Mary's father hit the guy he was fighting first and it knocked him out. So while the women see to the hurt man I hear when father and Kane Greene walked into the ring. I will give it to Mr. Greene he was putting up a good fight. But my father is a smart fighter. He taught me the smartest strategy for winning a fight “save your energy but wear out the enemy.” I now can see what he means. Mr.Greene was starting to slow down his breath more a pant more. So far this has been the longest fight today. Something happened that drew Mr. Greene's attention for one second but that was all father needed and hit him once hard on the edge of his jaw. Snapping his head up hard and fast. My eyes snapped to john as I heard his father fall to the ground. I could see steam coming from John's ears staring at his father. Looking up at me I just smirk. Turning his back to me she leaves.
Now was the fight Mary and I have been waiting for. “no matter what still best friends right?” “your so dumb of course look at our dads they are best friends and that's how I know this fight is gonna be long and bloody.” she says while crossing her arms “ya I bet we could go take a nap and they would still be at it. No chance they will go easy on each other.” “who better to fight against someone who knows your every move,” Betty says coming up behind us. She had been in the kitchen all day but when she was told it was now her mate and my father she came to watch. Looking around I see all she-wolves looking at our fathers with a weird look. “why are they looking at them like that?” I ask “their wolves are showing loyalty to their leaders. They acknowledge they will protect them.” Betty says. While she was telling me I was seeing more and more wolves sharing the same look.
Our fathers were covered in dirt blood bruises bite marks and scratches. Made me glad that shifting for this fight was forbidden. Our wolves love to fight just as much as our human side. The difference is our human side stops from killing someone. Our wolf side in a fight that is not playing is to the death. They would not stop just because someone says to stop. That and our teeth and claws are sharp and deadly. In a blink of an eye, father found his opening and strikes out at Mr. Jefferson hitting him hard and fast. His head shoots back and his father swipes his leg out knocking Jefferson's legs out from under him. Tackling him shoving his forearm across his neck. Putting his weight down against his neck. Holding my breath I counted in my head 1…….2……3…….4……5…….6…..Jefferson taps my father's arm. Jumping back father shoots his hand out to help Jefferson up. One of the judges yells “and our alpha is William Cambell” every wolf here big and small bowed their heads to their father. Showing him submission and respect.
Father cleared his throat and that was all it took for us all to raise our heads. He was smiling brightly at Mr. Jefferson slapping him on the back. The judge then says “ all those fighting for the beta title please step into the ring.” father walks over to me and Mary leaving Mr. Jefferson in the ring. Not one wolf stepped in the ring. We waited for 20 minutes. At the end of the 20 minutes, the judge announces “and our beta Micheal Jefferson” again all of us bow our heads to him. After a few seconds father pulls my head up. Confused I look around meeting Mr.Jefferson's eyes he bows to me and then clears his throat. Still confused I look to my father “his wolf was acknowledging you as the next alpha the only other wolf here beside me that does not submit to him.” understanding then I wondered about his mate and Mary would they have to bow to him and I look over at them. As if reading my mind Mary shakes her head at me. Being that Betty was now the beta female and Mary his daughter they were equals as I am equal to my father.
The three of us join Mr. Jefferson in the ring. Father clears his throat about to speak when a twinkling voice says “if I may have a moment please.”
