Chapter 15
Walking in the house I am confused. I look outside take note of the sun. Yes supper should be cooking. Heading to the kitchen I see beta female Betty cooking. Taking a big sniff nothing. What is going on “FATHER” I yell as I shoot from the kitchen heading to the study where he usually is this time of day. “what son” comes his worried voice as he comes out. “I cant smell anything” I rush out in a panic. “What good am I if I cant smell. How will I find my mate how will I protect the pack?” “ Stop. Start again from the beginning.” he orders. Starting from finding them at my spot to the small fight to them disappearing. Father does not like any of what I told him.
Beta Michael soon comes in “I linked Mary shes still in town picking up a few things. I told her to send vigil frost here at once.” father nodded. Town was just a bit to far for non blood mink links. The farther away you are the harder it is. Mates can link further than blood family. Hoping that my nose was just set wrong or blocked and it can be fixed fast. Pacing the study I am driving father crazy so much so he snapped at me to sit down.
I can hear a bit of worry in his voice. Longer than I would have like Mr. Frost shows up to have a look at me. Taking my blood and doing some things I don’t understand he tells us I have been poisoned. There is no cure but it will wear off in a few days. The wolves that did this to me were probably testing it out for a latter attack. Nodding to him I thank him for coming. Sulking I head to my room.I am going to take it easy for the next few days. Father order everyone to keep it to themselves that way the men will think it failed and move on. I want to cancel my birthday as its the same day my smell should come back.
Mary has really spent more and more time in town. I heard her telling her mother that she had been asked to attend a second school to get the schooling to be a teacher. The only problem is its far away. Beta female told her to not dismiss this opportunity so fast. This is what she wanted to do and to think hard about it. Locking my door I don’t want anyone near me while I cant smell. It would be hared to interpreting I can still smell. “well bed its you and me today and tomorrow” well thank the moon my bed didn’t reply to me.
I can hear everyone downstairs talking and laughing. The pups are excited the future alpha is coming of age and can find his mate. Well I guess plan b is effect. I will just have to shake hands with everyone and see if I feel the sparks. Here goes nothing lets go down and see about helping. Walking in the kitchen I see Mary and she smiles widely at me “hey mar how are you been a while since I seen you? How is school going?” I ask as I head to the door to bring in some wood. She says nothing so I look over. Her face has fallen and is that tears. Nope Mary doesn't cry. She shrugs her shoulders and walks away. Watching the spot how odd. “is she okay beta female?” she shrugs “I honestly don’t know shes been so secretive lately” she says shaking her head. Nodding I continue with what I was doing.
Soon everyone is arriving and to my horror so does Edith. But I cant find Mary now. I am trying to avoid Edith with all my might but its not working. We all sit to eat father is giving a short speech about me. I suddenly feel a break in my chest. Looking around I see tears in Betty's eyes. Father and beta Michael are staring at each other. “father what was that?” I ask in link “that was Mary leaving the pack. She linked her parents saying that shes gonna go to that school.” sadness is all I feel my best friend didn’t even say good bye. After supper the guys are playing music and everyone is dancing and having fun well everyone but me. I just want to go lay in my bed. I lost my best friend today and I still cant smell anything.
I feel a hand grab mine. Pulling it way fast to find out who is touching me. Seeing Edith smiling at me. “oh look Jesse smell me I am sure I am your mate.” “I’m sorry edi but your not my mate.” “how can you be sure father told me you cant smell anything” “trust me Edith you are not my mate so stop this now.” I raised my voice the tone of an alpha coming through. Turning and storming to my room locking myself away. It took forever to fall asleep but I finally did.
The next morning I storm to the study looking for father “father I want this smelling thing fixed now I am tired of it call the frosts if you have to I cant live like this.” I demand he nods and links someone. I pace around the room for a few hours before the Mr. Frost and Edith show up. “fix me” I growl out “Jesse tone young man” snapping my eyes to father and glare. Mr.frost comes over to me and looks me over. He mixes a small batch of something that looks like the cows leave in the fields. “here drink lets see if this helps any.” “well cant be to bad right I cant smell anything.” Edith giggled as I drank it. Chocking and coughing as it goes down. I get a faint hint of something. “yes more of that I’m getting a hint of something.” “Edith you seen what I made make more and make it twice as strong.” “yes father” and she leaves the room. “once she comes back I want you to take a spoon full mixed in milk twice a day until its all gone. By the end your nose will be fixed.”
