Chapter 11
The alpha comes to the house carrying Jesse on his back. Once he's close enough father shifts back. Hearing Edith gasping next to me I look over at her as her mother covers her eyes. Father walks past me into the house. “alpha I made a healing tonic and left it on the table just a few drops in some hot tea will help him recover faster. I think I should take my family and call it a night. I hope we can try this again when your son is better?” the alpha shifted I rush to hand him trousers. “yes I will set it up after Jesse is better I can't thank you enough. You are always welcome here Mr. Frost I can't repay you enough.” the alpha says as he reaches his hand out to shake hands with Mr. Frost. “Mary please have Tim or tom get their wagon.” nodding I run to the barn. “Tim the frosts wagon please they are ready to leave.” he waves his hand at me and I head back to the house.
“ill let miss Nancy you and Jesse have family matters for the next week and won't be able to come to school. My brother can meet the others at the same spot we met and take them to school if you all want just met me tomorrow and let me know. And please let me know how Jesse is doing.” I hug her letting her know I will. Rushing inside I try and go to Jesse's room but mother stops me “let him rest young lady.” I nod and sink to the floor in the hallway watching his door.
The next day I met Edith at the border letting her know we will take them up on the offer of then taking the younger pups to school and back. Also, Jesse is still asleep but looks a little better. We hug and part ways. Rushing back to the house to take up my spot in the hall once again. I had convinced tom to take the kids in the morning and Tim to meet them in the afternoon. I didn’t want to be too far from Jesse until he woke up.
At some point, I fell asleep in the hall but woke in my bed. It has been two days since they found him. Sneaking in while they were all asleep I sit on the edge of his bed. “come on Jesse wake up we need you. I need you.” taking his hand in mine. I feel him squeeze my hand. Looking up at his face I see his eyes moving like he's trying to wake up. Rushing to the door yelling for the alpha, father, and mother. They all make it up telling them he's starting to wake.
Rushing down to make some tea I remember the tonic and how much to put in the tea. Coming back up to his room I see his eyes slowly open. Soon he turns his head looking around seeing us all. “father” the alpha rushes to him “son thank the goddess.” smoothing his hair back a smile on his face as his son wakes up. Rushing over I hold the tea out for him. “I put the tonic in alpha” nodding he takes it. After helping Jesse sit up. Jesse slowly sips on the tea. The color on his face slowly returns. “ya no more” he tries pushing it away. Shaking his head the alpha makes him finish it.
“What happened, son?” I knew something happened to him when they brought him back he was covered in the dirt his neck black with bruises. This was not from just wandering off in the woods something happened. Jesse was looking down in the mug his eyes searching for something. Then they snapped and looked the alpha in the eyes “Mr. Greene. His brat told me that I was to help him fix a hole in the fence line at the southern border. While walking the fence looking for the hole someone hit me in the back of the head. Next thing I know I was chained up in a cave.” the alpha is growling as Jesse talks. Once he is done he orders Mr. Greene brought to the house.
When he didn’t come to the house the alpha sent Tim and tom to look for him. Again they couldn’t find him. Roaring out loudly “find him” we all scatter in search of the Greene's. “Mary did you walk the Greene boy to the border today with the others” “no alpha I have not seen him for a while.” nodding he turns back to Jesse.
The next day Tim comes to inform the alpha that the greens shack was empty and there was no trail. Just as the alpha was about to say something I see his eyes widen. “they left the pack. We may never find them. If you or any of the others come across him bring him here.” Tim bows and leaves. I hope to never see them again. Heading upstairs with a plate of food and another mug of tea.
“Nope, not drinking any more mud. Not happening take that away I want something else, not that.” Jesse says pointing at the mug. “well either you drink it in the hot tea or something else” I tell him. He reaches out for the plate but I pull it back holding out the tea. “you want the fried chicken to drink the tea.” growling at me he slumps backcrossing his arms over his chest. “well guess if you not gonna eat” “fine give it and don’t you dare touch my chicken.” he grumbles.
Only a few days and he is already so much better like nothing happened. And like the suck-up he is, he woke today before the sun to start on his chores. He was angry that Greene's disappeared but also happy that he didn’t have to deal with them again. We both will return to school tomorrow.
