Chapter 23
Daniel pov
I have been trying to get the door open but it will not budge. I am about to send someone to find something to use to break the door down when I feel the door give. I open it slowly the smell of death spills from the room again making us all gag. Looking around before I start down the stairs. Stopping two steps in turning back to the group “some of your checks the rest of the buildings for any others look for survivors and bring the lost back so we can take them to be sent to the goddess.” they all nod and leave. Damien, Brendon, and Liam follow me down the stairs.
Reaching the bottom the air seems different in here but still as heart-wrenching as before. I had planned to keep this building but after this, I am having it demolished and a remembrance park placed here instead. These wolves and humans didn’t deserve this and I will make sure they are remembered. This act of hate has made me more determined to bring the human town close by under the protection of this pack as soon as we are all home. I asked Noah to call Jones and have him keep his people there and away from the pack lands until they are livable and then we will bring the town into the pack as well so they will share in our wins and loses. They will have us to lean on as we will have them.
Reaching the bottom I see Bridget standing in the center of the room the envelope is gone and so is Luna Bronwyn. Bridge told us that Luna Bronwyn took the envelope back to have the other witches help with breaking the remaining spells. The biggest is mostly broken enough for her to take back. Bridget then tells me if I had touched it I would have died in so much pain. The reason as it turns out that none of us felt the bonds break was due to a spell. Now that some of it were broken I can feel bonds being severed. My chest clenched as they break. My hand going to my chest at the pain I noticed that I was not the only one feeling the pain. I can feel the pack trying to link me about the pain I am sure they now feel. Sending through the pack link I let them know when I get back we will have a pack meeting to go over what has happened. Leaving it vague because I have a feeling we are all on the same page and plan to address this together as we are now a family.
We start gathering our people and bringing them upstairs Noah being the smart one right now has called in for a transport van so we can take our people back. He also had one sent for the humans as well. We removed the objects that still suck in many of the bodies the families do not need to see what these horrible people did to their loved ones. While taking them upstairs we discovered that not only were the females violated so were the men. Whoever these sick monsters are they need to be taken care of and removed from the world. None of us are talking as we work to bring the dead upstairs. Bridget is standing at the base of the stairs taking down the names of the wolves. I wish we knew the names of the humans here in this mess but I will soon know. I will be taking them to Jones myself and checking on them there as well. I want him to know they have my support and my grief in their loss.
Once we have everyone upstairs and loaded into the vans to be taken to where they need to go I send everyone out. Standing in the center of the room I find anything that can burn to throw in the middle of the room. I had asked Noah to get me gasoline and a lighter. Just as I finish piling everything I can find in the center Noah comes down with a can of gas and a box of matches. Taking the can opening it dumping the contents all over the room. Tossing the can on the pile I walk back to the stairs where Noah is standing holding the matches. We each take a match out of the box looking at each other nodding we strike them flames spark to life and dance at the tip of the tiny piece of wood. Leaning in I kiss Noah before we both toss the matches to the pile. Noah takes my hand as flames burst to life. They race around the room spreading as it goes eating their way through the horror. When the flames come within three feet of us we head upstairs and out of the house.
Standing a safe distance away from the burning building I just watch as the flames eat every bit of the building. Noah, Bridget, and I are all that is left here watching what remains of the pack building crumple sending our prayers for the lost to the goddess. Hours later the flames have died to coals and we head to meet with Jones at the morgue with the humans. I plan to set up a meeting with Jones for a later date to go over a new plan to have the town and pack lands combined as one and let those humans who wish to be a part of my pack join it. I will take full responsibility for what has happened here and plan to help those who have lost a loved one heal. I want them to know they are now family their blood being spilled due to some wolf has made them family to me. Loading up in the three vans we head to town. My heart is heavy with the loss I am about to give these people.
Pulling up to an older building we head to the back where they have the doors for delivering the deceased. Parking we get out and head inside finding Jones and a few other men waiting inside. When they see us five men walked over and we handed them the keys without a sound I bow my head to them as they walk out. Jones has a look of shock and sadness on his face “I didn’t think alpha bows to anyone?” he questions “they do when it is deserved and you all deserve my respect as you lost a lot working for me. I can never make up for the loss you have suffered here.” I tell him. He nods in understanding to what I have said to him. Waiting for the men to finish unloading I let Jones know the vans are theirs to keep and to let Bridget know how much will be needed for the services for the families as I will be paying for this. We also set up a meeting for a few months from now in hopes this mess is all taken care of. I let him know that we will be sending our sorrow for their loss with the loss of ours to the goddess. As we leave I let him know I will find the ones responsible for this and take care of this the death of these men and women will not go unpunished.
