Chapter 12
Daniel pov
Pulling up a two-story red brick building with a white and blue sign proudly starting City Hall out front. Once parked a husky middle-aged man who closely remembers Santa Claus walks out of the glass door to meet us. “welcome, welcome I’m mayor Harper.” he says with a smile. “it's nice to meet you I’m Daniel Winters. This is Brendon Hemming and this is my right hand, Bridget.” I say pointing us out as I go. “come on in we have a lot to go over would any of you like coffee? Water? Tea?” he asks as he opens the door for us. “coffee will be fine thanks.” Brendon says as we walk in. The young female at the front desk's eyes goes wide as we enter first looking Brendon over. I think I see drool running down her chin. Blinking she gathers herself, stands batting her eyes and him. “Anna please show them to the conference room please I will be there shortly.” he tells her smiling wide “of course, sir”. making her way around the desk motioning for us to follow her. She slides up to Brendon and starts her best o flirt with him and he is seeing no of it. “ten bucks says she tries and slips him her number” Bridget links me making me choke back a laugh when Brendon breaks into my head “what is so funny?” it's so jarring when they do that but being one of the kings he can mind linking anyone. “bridge is wanting to bet she tries and slip you her number” I tell him and I see him smirk at that shaking his head.
Once we enter the room we take our seats as she goes to get coffee. Setting it down in front of us but for Brendon, she sets his on a napkin. He grabs her arm while picking up the napkin handing it back to her “I won't be needing this miss’” he tells her and she just pouts. Looking around the room to see if we noticed and that is when she saw me for the first time the look she gives me has Bridget laughing so hard. Rolling my eyes I link her “stop that and act like the beta you are” I tell her looking over to Brendon who is laughing at the way she is now staring at me. When she starts heading over to me Bridget stands “don’t even think about it hussy” she sneers feet apart hands on her hips death glare in her eyes. “oh are you two a couple?” Anna asks and that was it for Brendon he was full-on laughing so hard his face is turning red. Bridget is looking green at the thought and I just shake my head. “oh god no yuck he's so old.” Bridget vomits out Brendon now beating his hand on the table at my expense. “I’m not that old” I mumble
Not long after mayor Harper comes in with a lab top and a stack of files. “thank you, Anna, I have it from here I left some files on your desk” he says to her dismissing her from the room. I can see the feeling of being rejected in her eyes but she's human she will get over it as soon as she sees the guards out front. “I feel sorry for the unmated guards out front” I chuckle as I link both Bridget and Brendon who both are trying to hide their amusement behind the coffee mugs.
“Okay so to start I know you are all wolves like I said I have been aware of the wolf community down the road for a while.” he starts “my sister is mated to a warrior in a pack out east. I have been trying to create a working relationship with alpha Greene for a long time now with no luck. So when you called about permits and wanting to have a relationship between the pack and the town I got busy pulling everything I could think of that we might need.” he says. Honestly he looks like a kid in a candy store. “so I know you said you wanted to open a few businesses in town and need permits for the construction on the lands and in the lands in my county that you plan to build a center” he says while setting up his lab top.
“yes, there are several buildings we plan to build and it's a school, not a center.” I tell him just then Bridget interprets “how much do you trust the humans in this town Mr. Harper?” looking up stunned at her words he looks at us all before he simply states “the ones that have been here forever I trust whole heartily the few newer ones that have now made this place their home seem to be trustworthy. May I ask why?” he looks at her with wide eyes. “would you say we could trust them with our secret?” she says plainly. I know where she is going and I'm not sure we are all on board with her train of thought. I'm about to say something when she shakes her head glaring at me. This is no ordinary Bridget glare this one means business.
“well I want to say they can be trusted, but then there is the risk of someone slipping up and someone not trustworthy finding out. Again I ask why?” Harper asks. Bridget seems to check out. She has a blank look on her face but her eyes seem to be moving all over the place but not seeing. We all sit and wait for Bridget to start talking once again. While we wait the mayor once again apologizes for his assistant. We all wave it off telling him that we understand. “sadly but no more true a female will always seek out the strongest male in the room. It's in all our nature to seek protection.” he nods looking over at us in a new understanding. “can I ask a personal question?” I nod “if most of your kind find your mates in the same pack that you grow up in how do you date beforehand?” I can see the sheepish look in his eyes at his question but the way humans and wolves are do have differences. We don’t choose our mates like humans and some other supernaturals. “so do some don’t we just make sure we are honest with each other. Some of us are raised to wait for our mate and some don’t care. I waited but my mate did not. It's a choice you make same as you humans.” this line of the conversation went on for a while longer things I have a feeling he's always wanted to ask his sister yet was taken shy to.
