Chapter 6

Tom and Tim reported back that the frost family didn’t pose a threat to the pack or humans they were j just looking for a quiet place to just be themselves. With that, they all decided it would be better to have them as allies so arranged to have dinner at the main house with them. The alpha sent Tim and tom to invite them to dinner the following night.

Mary and I made our way to school. Joining them were all the pups youngest being seven and the oldest being eleven. This included that brat, John Greene. During the walk, we had to remind him that he is not the boss of the younger pups he was equal to them. If he didn’t stop this I would ask his father to talk with his father. He should be listening to me and following the orders to stop but he is not. This has me questioning his bond. I know his father is still angry about losing my father. He is a strong wolf but not nearly on the same level as his father. I had seen him with his mate a few times and I didn’t like how he talked to her.

Living so close to the humans for so long I do see the similarity to the way some of the men and Mr. Greene are. They think of themselves better than the females but it's the females that bring life not the males. The more time I spend with the Greene family the more I dislike them. I know Mary feels the same way. She always complains that Mr. Greene gives her the willies. Says he's always staring at her.

Making it to the schoolhouse the small pups are in awe of the building and yard around it. Granted we had areas for play at the farm just nothing like this. We usually found an area that is not in use at the time to play. But here they had an area set up with things to climb on and swing from. Lots of things to help young ones burn off some energy. Reminding all of them to watch and learn the others for the first few days to not hurt or stick out.

Entering the schoolhouse our school marma was waiting with a smile. Beta female Betty had made a trip into town on Sunday for goods and to inform miss Nancy of the young that would be joining the school. This excited miss Nancy at the chance to teach more children. The class goes from ten to almost twenty-five. She hated that most the families didn’t send their children to school past the age of 13. this was the age that most fathers decided it was time to have them help around the house or with their trade. With us, though we have enough manpower at home father agreed to have all the pups learn, and having an opportunity to learn a trade that would benefit us is a contained unit. This meant learning medicine along with woodworking.

Soon Edith came in excited about the dinner for tomorrow night. Her family always knew of the shifters but never met one before. So when tom and Tim showed up at their door with the dinner invitation they were quick to accept. At midday meal, Edith again tried sitting so close to me. It's not that she's not pretty because she is it's that I made a vow to only share the things she wants to share with my mate. I would have to ask Mary to talk to her and set her straight on the matter. In three years I can find my mate the one made just for me and the only one that I will share all my first. I don’t know how things work with witches maybe it's something we can share and learn about each other.

At the end of the day, miss Nancy asked to see me before we left for the farm. Having everyone wait for me I head inside. “Mr. Cambell I have been having problems with Mr. Greene picking on the girls. Can you pass word to his mother and father that I can't have that going on? If it continues I can't have him attend anymore.” “yes ma’am. I am truly sorry for his behavior I will do what I can to help correct it.” shame is all I feel. We need to blend in and he is making it hard. He is making us look bad. She thanks me and lets me go.

“let's go” I almost yell at them all. Picking up one of the small pups who look half asleep. All the way home I just glare at the back of johns head. “what did miss Nancy want Jesse?” Mary asks and I just shake my head not wanting to talk about it around the pups. She nods but gives me a look that tells me I will tell her later. Sighing out I know I will. Getting back to the house I take the pups to the day room with the grannies. Nodding my head to Mary for her to follow I went in search of my father. He's the alpha he can deal with the Greene's.

“Well?” she demands. “wait until we find father,” I tell her as we walk across the field to where the herd is. Finding father talking with a few of the men. Beta Micheal was on the other side of the field with a few of the younger members training. It looks and sounds like fighting but with the added safety that you do not make a killing blow. It is just so you know how it feels to be hit and how to ignore it to hit back harder. This was how our fathers got to be so big over the years. They fought for what they wanted and needed then fought to keep it.

Once father was done talking to the men and sent them to retrieve the selected cattle for butchering. “alpha, may I have a word with you?” looking over at me I can see the confusion on his face. I was here to talk to the alpha, not my father. He nods and starts walking and we follow. “is Michael needed as well?” “oh um, I don’t know maybe probably,” I say scratching the back of my neck. He keeps walking but I see his eyes go blank. This is a sign he is linking someone I have learned. “Michael will meet us inside let's go.”
