Chapter 106
“Where to next?” Ann asked after breakfast, happy that Paris is a day walker.
“Alaska for lunch, Russia for dinner and to spend the night,” Paris said.
“Alaska?” Ann asked, excited.
“If you want,” Paris said.
“Absolutely,” Ann said as they walked out of the diner.
By lunch they were in Alaska, but not near Barrow. They had lunch, followed by Paris speeding Ann over the Bering Strait to Russia. They spent the night in a cozy little town in a cabin.
After spending most of the night making love, Paris sped Ann through Russia, stopping only to have breakfast and lunch. By dinner time they reached their destination.
“Wow,” Ann exclaimed. “This room is bigger than the hotel rooms on the Home Channel.”
“Yours for as long as you want it,” Paris said and wrapped his arms around her from behind. Ann was standing at the floor-to-ceiling with oversized windows that had thin white curtains pulled aside to showcase the sun setting on the beach that was right on the doorstep.
“I wish. The first year of the varsity has not even finished. I have three to go,” Ann chuckled.
“Study online,” Paris suggested. ‘I will have to compel her.’
“I don’t think I will get any studying done if I stay here,” Ann chuckled and turned around to face Paris. “What about you? Will you enroll again?” Ann wondered.
Instead of answering her, Paris kissed her. After the kiss, Ann pulled out of the kiss.
“It is different kissing and touching you,” Ann said and walked towards one of the glass doors to open it.
“In what way?” Paris chuckled, following her outside.
“You used to be cold to the touch, but now you are warm,” Ann said, holding out her hand to him.
Paris took her hand and together they walked to the water.
“How did you become a day walker?” Ann finally asked the question that has been burning a hole through her brain.
“Forget what I am. Forget about the supernatural world. You know who you are and your aspirations are the same. You never want to leave this island and you have no desire to ever contact your family ever again. You are cutting ties with your former life, and you will register online to finish your studies online. You have a super-rich boyfriend that sponsors your lifestyle. You have a black credit card that you take care of. You know me as Ethan West,” Paris compelled her, giving her the name on the black credit card he will be leaving behind for her. “Every morning when you wake up you will have the feeling as if you recently saw your boyfriend, and that you spoke to him the previous night,” Paris added and kissed a confused-looking Ann before speeding off with her shaman necklace in hand.
Ann stared at the ocean with her feet in the water, oblivious to what just happened, but felt content without a care in the world.
Paris left the black credit card on the bedside table and left. Paris returned days later with Ann’s identification documents. He watched her walking on the beach before leaving.
Paris got back to the higher council just in time for Wynn’s wedding.
“Paris,” Jessica exclaimed when he sat down next to her at the chapel.
“Why are you so happy to see me?” Paris wondered.
“Ann. I have not seen her all week. Wynn assured me that you are secretly watching over her,” Jessica said, looking around, searing for Ann.
“Ann is safe,” Paris responded.
“Where is she?” Jessica demanded to know.
“Safe,” Paris repeated.
“She is my best friend, I get to know where she is,” Jessica said under her breath.
“What is more important? Her being safe or you are being her best friend?” Paris asked bluntly.
Jessica knew he was right and dropped it, wondering if she will ever see Ann again.
“What is taking them so long?” Jessica whispered to Deacon.
“I don’t know. It is one thing for the bride to be late but another for the groom,” Deacon said and stood up to go see what was going on when he couldn’t reach Wynn with a mind link.
***
Wynn was on his way to the chapel when he felt Queen Amirah mating with another because he was mind linked with her. Wynn froze in his tracks. ‘It is not possible. She and her offspring are the last royal were-owls,’ Wynn thought and changed direction from the chapel to the were-owl throne room where he saw through Queen Amirah’s eyes.
Wynn walked in and saw an unfamiliar group of people.
“Wynn,” Queen Amirah said to him.
“What is the meaning of this? What is going on?” Wynn asked, looking from Queen Amirah to the group of people standing around.
“I just fated to their adopted son. He is the one to the left. They are just a flock high up in the ranks and attend weddings and important were-owl meetings, but this is the first time their adopted son joined them,” Queen Amirah whispered.
“So, there is a royal family out there?” Wynn questioned.
“No. I doubt it. He is over three hundred years old. Never fated to anyone. Childless. He said he always refused to make use of a shaman to bind him to another,” Queen Amirah whispered.
“A three-hundred-year-old virgin?” Wynn snorted.
“No man. Just because he chose not to fate to anyone with the help of a shaman does not make him a virgin. That woman over there,” Queen Amirah pointed at a woman crying and being consoled by another. “That is his girlfriend of the past fifty years.”
“So, he has no children?” Wynn questioned.
“None that he knows off,” Queen Amirah said.
“Why have you not rejected him yet?” Wynn questioned.
“I, well,” Queen Amirah struggled to explain herself.
“You are fucking kidding me?!” Wynn exclaimed and stormed out of the were-owl throne and walked into Deacon.
“What is going on?” Deacon questioned.
“Amirah fated to a were-owl and does not want to un-mate,” Wynn exclaimed, clearly upset.
“I am not going to lie, I am relieved,” Deacon stated without thinking.
“You hate yourself so much that you don’t care about my happiness?” Wynn spat and walked off.
Deacon seized the moment and proceeded to the were-owl throne room.
“Good evening,” Deacon greeted with a big smile on his face, recognizing some of the people.
“You must be the were-owl prince,” Deacon put out his hand to shake the unfamiliar man’s hand but immediately knew that he was of royal descent by just the look of him.
“King Deacon, we don’t need you mending in our affairs,” Queen Amirah said.
“I am your king and I say I do,” Deacon stated and turned his attention back to the were-owl prince.
“Why only come forth now?” Deacon questioned.
“We never knew. We only found out now when he fated to Queen Amirah,” his mother spoke up for him.
“Do you wish to claim each other?” Deacon questioned.
“Of course,” Noah said, looking at Queen Amirah.
“We have our own ways. We don’t just jump into marriage like the lycans,” Queen Amirah rolled her eyes.
“But at the end of the day, you will marry, right? You are the last of your blood. Well, available of your blood, and here is a prince with pure were-owl royal blood, or else he would have not fated to you. So, why wait?” Deacon questioned.
“We did come to attend a wedding,” Noah’s mother stated.
“I agree. You might as well give everyone the wedding they came for,” Noah’s father agreed.
“Who the hell do you all think you are to tell me what to do? I am the were-owl queen,” Queen Amirah exclaimed in disbelief.
