Chapter 190
King Thorvald sped over and sank his teeth into the pry. ‘She is the split image of her mother,’ he thought.
On his way back to his throne king Thorvald signals a few of his vampires to come over, “The girl looks just like her mother, princess Claire. Take a drink from the priest so that you can see where the convent is. Start searching there for her,” King Thorvald said, wondering why his daughter, whom he compelled not to come near blood, not even cooked meat did such a thing.
Earlier that day at the convent where king Thorvald left his daughter just over seventeen years ago.
Gina was busy in the kitchen, cutting vegetables as she was on kitchen duty with another girl that stayed at the convent with her. ‘I am so tired of vegetables and bread. I can not wait for my birthday tomorrow. Tomorrow I am free to go. I am not sure where I am going but I know I have a father out there; after all, I was told that he left me here after my mother died when I was a few months old,’ Gina talked to herself in her head.
“Where is your head at?” one of the girls that are about Gina’s age asked her.
“Keep your eyes on your work,” Gina said, pointing with the knife in her hand to the carrots in front of the girl, fearing if the girl is not careful, she might cut her own fingers off.
“Keep your eyes on your work,” the girl mocked Gina, accidentally cutting her finger, “ouch!” The girl cried as the blood from her finger started to spill over one of the carrot pieces.
“I told you,” Gina said, hurrying over to her side to wrap a clean cloth over the girl’s finger, ignoring the strong blood scent hitting her nose.
“We have to rinse and then sterilize,” Gina said, walking the girl to the basin. Gina became fascinated with the blood and water running.
“It won’t stop bleeding,” the girl cried.
“We have to apply pressure to it,” Gina said, wrapping the clean cloth again, applying pressure. After a while, Gina took the cloth off, “Let us have a look.” Absent-minded Gina licked her lips at the blood still running from the girl’s finger and brought the girl's finger to her mouth, sucking the blood.
“What are you doing?” the girl asked, trying to pull her hand away.
Gina felt extra teeth ripping through her gums and she bites down on the girl’s finger, preventing her from retracting her hand.
“Ouch! Stop!” the girl pleaded.
Gina stopped for a moment, “Shut up!” The girl swallowed the scream she was about to scream; Gina unknowingly compelled her.
Gina could hear the girl’s heartbeat loud and fast from fear, her eyes big and her breathing short as it appeared she was having a slight panic attack.
Gina pulled the girl closer to her in one quick movement and sunk her fangs into the girl’s neck, drinking deeply.
‘What am I doing? Why does it taste so good,’ Gina tried to will herself to stop but her blood lust was too strong, blood that she has always for some strange reason could not bring herself to taste, not even cooked meat, but longed for.
The scream of a sister nun made Gina jerk her head up. The sister nun screamed again at the sight of Gina’s fangs, and in one swift movement Gina leaped with a speed she did not know she had and ripped her throat out.
‘Why does it feel so good,’ Gina asked herself, leaving the kitchen. ‘Am I possessed?’ Gina wondered as she ripped the next nun apart and the next, making her way to the chapel door.
At the sight of Gina the priest took his cross hanging on a necklace around his neck and held it in front of her praying in Latin.
‘'I don’t know what is happening to me,’' Gina cried, feeling the need to also kill the priest, wanting to smell and taste his blood.
“My child, you must be possessed,” the priest said, shaking.
“I think, I think I killed everyone,” Gina said, pointing backward.
“No, my child, n-no, it must be the demon. We have to tie you up, so you don’t kill anyone else,” the priest said, keeping his distance.
Gina puttee her hand in front of her, showing that she wanted the priest to tie her up, “Please help me.”
The priest looked around for something to tie her down with and settled on his stole sash but before he could react Gina had him by his throat.
“Wait child, your father,” was the last words from the priest.
“No! No!” Gina screamed out when she realized what she has done. Gina slammed and scratched the priest's face out of anger for not helping her before she ran for the door of the chapel.
‘That was really fast! Am I a vampire? Did something happen to me yesterday when I played that stupid ritual game with that new guy in town after church? The nuns warned me to stay away from boys,’ Gina argued with herself, her hand on the chapel door, fearing the sun all of a sudden.
Gina slowly opened the door and put only her hand out, and when nothing happened, she stepped outside. ‘I am still in the shade so maybe it is not light that kills vampires and just direct sunlight,’ she wondered as she walked toward the edge of the shade and stuck her hand into the sun, closing her eyes, waiting for the pain.
Gina took a deep breath when nothing happened. Gina looked at her messy blood-stained maid’s apron. ‘I have to clean up. I can't be seen like this,’ she told herself, looking back at the chapel and the convent.
Instead of trying out her newfound speed, she walked hesitantly back to the chapel, ‘What will I wear? All there is here is nun clothes. I need to stay away from humans until I learn to control myself,’ she told herself. Gina pinched her nose close before entering the chapel so that she does not smell the blood. She didn't notice that the priest was not on the floor anymore. Gina sped to her room to wash up. After putting on a clean tunic and over it a scapular, Gina left, this time through the convent doors, and started to walk towards the nearby stream, ‘I will follow it and hopefully find something else to wear on the washing lines of the houses near the stream,’ she thought.
Gina looked around her to see if anyone is around before using her speed for a short distance, ‘How am I doing that?’ Soon she came to a house and was relieved to see some clothes hanging on the washing line.
Gina goes from one dress to another and took a liking to a dark green wool-tailored dress with long, tight sleeves and a slightly bloused bodice; the dress gently flared at mid-calf and had side pleats. ‘Imagine the nuns seeing me in this; oh wait, I killed them,’ Gina thought, holding back her tears.
After putting the dress on she looked down at her flat nun shoes, ‘It will have to do.’ Gina was about to head for the woods when she realized that the dress she was wearing won’t do so she looked back at the washing line. ‘This is such a nice dress but if I am to hunt in the woods then I need something more durable,’ she thought as she took the dress off and puts on a pair of slacks and a button-up shirt.
Gina managed to go without food for two days before she felt the need for blood again and at first, she could not stand the idea of hunting down an animal and drinking its blood but as soon as she sunk her fangs into her first prey, she thought the blood taste better than human blood.
