Chapter 29
‘What happened? Where is Wynn?’ Mr. Ondrink asked.
‘Dead. Prince Deacon had him killed right after claiming me by biting me,’ Jessica mind linked him.
The moment Mr.Ondrink heard that Prince Deacon claimed her he no longer feared for Jessica’s future, ‘you should mind link the prince, he will find you.’
‘F*ck the prince,’ Jessica mind linked Mr. Ondrink back.
‘If he has claimed you, he won't harm a single hair on your body. In fact, he might even kill anyone that does,’ Mr. Ondrink mind linksed her.
‘What are you going to tell my fake parents when I am not back for the next term of school?’ Jessica mind linked.
‘I thought you can tell them you got like a swimming scholarship,’ Mr. Ondrink mind linked her.
‘I cannot believe he claimed you! All our problems are solved!’ Mr. Ondrink mind linked, laughing, Jessica’s parents looking at him, wondering what was up with him.
‘What are you talking about?’ Jessica mind linked him, losing focus, almost running into a vampire but she also caught a hint of wolf on him, ‘hybrid,’ she thought, growling.
‘I found her,’ Fredrick mind linked Prince Deacon.
‘Is she ok? Is she hurt?’ Prince Deacon mind linked, eager to get a status update.
‘She seems fine,’ Fredrick mind linked back.
‘Is she wearing a Shaman neckless?’ Prince Deacon mind linked.
‘No,’ Fredrick responded.
‘Compel her to return to the castle, to the room that was given to her and, while you at it, compel her to obey me,’ Prince Deacon demanded.
Fredrick does as he was demanded. “Go back to the castle, to the room that was given to you, and always obey Prince Deacon.”
Jessica was furious but walked back to the castle, only feeling the pain in her back legs now.
‘I think she is hurt, she is limping,’ Fredrick mind linked Prince Deacon when he noticed Jessica limping a bit.
‘You will have to pick her up and take her to her room,’ Prince Deacon mind linked him, showing Fredrick the way to her room.
“Princess, I am going to pick you up. Don’t bite me,’ Fredrick compelled her before picking her up. Moments later, he laid her down on her bed, Prince Deacon hot on his heels, still in his wolf form.
‘Pity she cannot be compelled to claim me.’ Prince Deacon jumped onto the bed next to her, sniffing her.
‘What are you doing?’ Jessica asked, mind linking him.
‘Are you hurting badly?’ Prince Deacon mind linked back.
‘Why do you care?’ Jessica mind linked him back, sarcastically.
‘Fredrick, go to the wardrobe and get me something to wear. Don’t go to my room. I have guests staying in my room,’ Prince Deacon mind linked.
‘That reminds me; did they help you? Did they set you free using a Shaman neckless?’ Prince Deacon mind linked Jessica, thinking he will punish them.
‘No, leave them alone. They were sleeping, so I tried my luck with the neckless that he left on the bedside table,’ Jessica admitted.
Prince Deacon could see in her mind that she was talking the truth. Fredrick returned with the clothes and Prince Deacon shifted into his human form, seeing in Jessica’s mind that she found his body pleasing.
Prince Deacon smiled at Jessica’s thoughts while getting dressed, “I will leave you to shift and get dressed and don’t try to escape again, especially through your bedroom window,” he said before leaving.
Jessica blocked him from her mind before thinking to herself, ‘stupid fool,’ Jessica shifted into her human form and searched her vanity table to retrieve her shaman necklace and pulled the curtains to her veranda to make it seem as if she jumped through the window before hiding in her walk-in closet.
It took Prince Deacon a few minutes to realize that Jessica had blocked him from his mind again, ‘something is up,’ he thought, storming into her room and the pulled-open curtains made him run onto the veranda, “dam*t! I can’t believe I lost her for a third time!”
Jessica could feel her heart pounding in her chest, ‘calm down,’ she tried to will her heart to beat softer.
Fredrick heard a heartbeat, beating loudly where he was standing near the closet. Prince Deacon was still mind linked with Fredrick and knew what he knew.
‘Thank goodness, for a moment I thought she ran away again,’ Prince Deacon mind linked.
Prince Deacon closed the Veranda doors and shut the curtains before sitting on Jessica’s bed.
‘You can go, Fredrick, close the door behind you,’ Prince Deacon mind linked him.
Jessica heard her bedroom door close again, and a smile crept up her face, thinking she has fooled Prince Deacon.
Jessica switched the walk-in closet’s light on and looked for a tracksuit. ‘I need something with a hoody to hide my face,’ she thought, pulling one item after the other.
Finally dressed, she made sure the Shaman Neckless was not showing under her clothes. Jessica took a deep breath before opening her closet door and gave a little shout at the sight of Prince Deacon.
Prince Deacon jumped over to her, “are you ok? Is it your legs?”
‘He does not know that I tried to run again,’ Jessica thought, relieved. “Yes, it hurts a little,” Jessica said, lying as her legs don’t hurt anymore.
“Sit down, I will go find my pack doctor. He is not responding to my mind links. I think he might have gotten killed in the bloody mess. We thankfully escaped due to your actions,” Prince Deacon said.
“Thank you,” Jessica said, pretending to be grateful, eager for him to go, hoping he will stay away long enough so that she can escape.
“Anything for you,” Prince Deacon said, taking a pillow and positioning it behind her so that she can be more comfortable.
“Anything?” Jessica asked, wondering just how true that was.
“Please don’t abuse the power you have over me,” Prince Deacon said.
“What power? You are the one that is holding me under a compelling that you had your vampire friend put over me!” Jessica reminded him in anger.
“Please forgive me,” he said, touching her cheek.
“Forgive you?! I hate you!” Jessica spat, slapping his hand away from her.
Prince Deacon thought back to his fated claimed mate a century ago that was also just one-sided, ‘they never seem to understand when it is just one-sided,’ he thought, taking his shaman necklace of his neck and put it around Jessica’s, “you know the hymn, you are free to go,” Prince Deacon said, standing up to leave the room.
“After all this, and I am free?” Jessica questioned, taking the necklace off her neck and throwing it at him. “I already lifted the spell. I was just waiting for you to leave so that I can escape again!”
Jessica stubbornly stomped into her walk-in closet and grabbed her suitcase.
“Why don’t you wait for daylight?” Prince Deacon asked, watching her throw clothing into her suitcase, going back and forth.
“Why? So that you can change your mind?” Jessica questioned, trying to shut her suitcase, but it was too full to close.
Prince Deacon walked over and put some pressure on it so that she can close it easier.
“I won't change my mind. In the morning, I am dropping off a family at the airport. I will book you a flight ticket back home,” Prince Deacon said, not believing the words coming out of his own mouth, arguing in silence with himself, ‘am I really going to just let her go?’
“What about pursuiting my parents? If any harm comes to them, I will never forgive you,” Jessica warned.
“No harm will ever come to them; you have my word. I am the king now. They never wanted to be here in any way, so they are free and so are you,” Prince Deacon said, hoping it will soften her up towards him.
“So let me get this straight; first you wanted to r*pe me in wolf form the produce wives for your brothers and kill my parents and now you cannot bear to hurt me; physically or emotionally?” Jessica asked, laughing sarcastically.
“It is the claimed bond. It will make things easier if you will just claim me back,” Prince Deacon suggested.
“Never!” Jessica spat, dragging her suitcase behind her with her backpack on her back.
“Let me carry it for you,” Prince Deacon offered, taking her suitcase ,not giving her a moment to decline. Jessica just rolled her eyes.
“You know you can always just kill her, and you will be set free,” Shysie said at the front door of the castle.
“I won't repeat past mistakes and now that I am finally in charge, I would be careful if I were you,” Prince Deacon reminded her of a promise he made her a century ago.
Prince Deacon’s Ferrari was still parked in the front courtyard. ‘Bring me my car keys, I am waiting at the front, at my car,’ he mind linked one of his brothers.
“Jessica, where are you going?” Prince Deacon asked, watching her walk past his car.
“Far away from here,” she said stubbornly and saw that she forgot about the suitcase that Prince Deacon was carrying. ‘Scr*w it,’ she thought as she didn’t come with the items in the suitcase in any case.
“Let me take you to the airport,” Prince Deacon shouted after her, but she just ignored him.
Jessica walked into the road and across the street before coming to a halt to take her phone out to book an Uber but before she could finalize the request, Prince Deacon stopped next to her. “Get in; I promise I will drop you at the airport.”
“Fine,” she said, closing the Uber app and pocketing her phone before getting into the car.
When they arrived at the airport, Prince Deacon took her suitcase out of the boot of his car and started to walk into the airport building.
“You can just give me my suitcase. I can manage from here,” Jessica protested.
“Let’s go to the nearest ticket counter so that I can buy you a flight back home,” Prince Deacon said, making Jessica sigh. ‘His like a lovesick puppy!’ she thought frustrated as all she wanted to do was be alone already so that she can continue crying over Wynn as she was still feeling extreme heartache, worse than when they unmated.
After buying her a ticket, he watched her go through the boarding gates. ‘Guess at least now I am never at risk of ever mating again; well unless she gets herself killed,’ he thought, looking after her until she was out of sight.
The following morning, Prince Deacon dropped Jason and Bianca off at the airport, while the rest of their pack members took their leave by motorcycle.
‘Notify everyone in the castle that we have a meeting in the Vampire hall in an hour and everyone present should attend,’ Prince Deacon mind linked his pack to gather all the supernatural, humans, including the Hunter kids.
An hour later, the meeting started.
“It is clear that none of the royal present, besides King Torvald, that is still asleep and Queen Amirah, that is still recovering, are left. King Juno and Queen Jovita have willingly stepped down and since they have left a generation behind going by the name of Jessica, they are free to be. Over the next few weeks, we will pull all the hunters out in the field back home and all the hunter kids will be put up for adoption in families that consist only of humans,” Prince Deacon said.
“When will you and princess Jessica be sworn in as the new king and queen?” one of Prince Deacon’s brothers wanted to know.
“Did you enjoy your rest?” Eero whispered to Stella, teasingly.
“It could have happened to you,” Stella whispered back, remembering the awkward position she woke up in, a few hours ago.
“I will be sworn in after the mass funeral,” Prince Deacon said, noticing the sad faces of the children, remembering that they are the ones that lost their mothers.
