Chapter 92

On their way out of the castle, Wynn explained to Deacon what transpired between Ami and himself and why they were unmated.

“So, what now?” Deacon questioned.

“Between Ami and me? Nothing. She is carrying Eero’s kid,” Wynn said.

“And your feelings for her?” Deacon wondered.

“Well, I have always had a soft spot for both of them, especially Ami. I should have rejected the moment we fated instead of jumping into bed with her. Our relationship will never be the same,” Wynn said, regretting his decisions.

“There is something you should know,” Deacon said, remembering the contents of Lauturi’s letter.

“What?” Wynn questioned.

“Not here. The walls have ears,” Deacon said, and led Wynn out of the castle.

They walked for a bit before Deacon explained. “A vampire can become a day walker by robbing a hunter or the offspring of a hunter; half-bloods included, of their heart and putting it where their own heart used to be.”

“That is how Paris became a day walker?” Wynn questioned, not believing that Paris would have done something like it.

“Yes, but who gave him the information?” Deacon questioned.

“My sister maybe?” Wynn suggested.

“I thought the two of you figured out how what you are and therefore found the answer to make her day walker,” Deacon said, confused.

“No, not at all. She told me she killed a bird and ate its heart. You know, like the stories go of how shifters got their various animals,” Wynn explained.

“And she has shown you that she can shift?” Deacon questioned.

“No, she did not. She just keeps on saying it hurts too much every time she tries,” Wynn said.

“My guess is that Torvald told her about the whole hunter thing and that is how she really became a day walker,” Deacon suggested.

“She will never tell the truth,” Wynn added.

“Then drink her blood,” Deacon suggested.

“I can’t. She made me promise to never drink from her years ago,” Wynn said.

“Why?” Deacon wondered.

“Beats me,” Wynn chuckled. “Let’s go find out from Paris. If it was her who told him about the hunters, then we could assume that is how she became a day walker.”

“All hunters are now in danger,” Deacon said, as they took a brisk walk back to the council to go look for Paris.

“I don’t think pure hunters are in danger, but half-bloods like Ann are definitely in trouble since they won’t be able to protect themselves or even fight back,” Wynn corrected him.

“I think purebloods are also in danger. Paris managed to kill Stella, and she was well trained,” Deacon disagreed.

“I will speed through the castle to look for Paris. See you in a bit,” Wynn said when they got back to the higher council.

Wynn sped through the castle and returned. “He is not here.”

“I wonder if he will be at varsity?” Deacon questioned.

“You go and find Jessica and sort things out with her. I will find Paris,” Wynn said. “If you don’t mind, find out from Eero’s father where he might be,” Wynn requested of Deacon before speeding off.

It didn’t take Wynn long to find Paris. “I thought I will find you somewhere near Ann,” Wynn said, joining Paris on a rooftop that was across from the dorm building and had a clear view of Ann’s bedroom window.

“Wynn,” Paris acknowledges him.

“What is up?” Wynn questioned, keeping his distance.

“Just watching over Ann,” Paris said.

“Because she is in danger?” Wynn questioned.

“Something like that,” Paris stated, but was not sure if Wynn knew how a vampire could become a day walker.

“Who told you how to become a day walker and why, Stella?” Wynn questioned.

“Eero,” Paris said. “Well, actually he didn’t tell me,” Paris corrected himself. “Eero and Stella were in my room when I returned to the higher council. Eero was hooked up to IVs, I am not sure why. All I know was that he accused Stella of killing Ami and attacked her. He ripped her heart out and shoved it into my chest before speeding off.”

“Holy crap. Everyone thinks you killed Stella,” Wynn informed him.

“Right. A vampire killing a hunter,” Paris chuckled.

“That was my thoughts as well,” Wynn said and felt relieved that Paris was not in the wrong.

“Eero told me that all hunters and Torvald know this,” Paris told Wynn and looked over at him. “Did you know all along?”

“Of course not. I just found out. We thought that perhaps Shysie told you,” Wynn explained.

“She knows as well. I drank her blood. She killed a half-blood. A person that could not even defend themselves. Someone that didn’t even know anything about the supernatural world,” Paris said.

“Why would Torvald give her this information? Shysie is a dangerous person,” Wynn questioned.

“Where is Torvald by the way?” Paris wondered.

“No one knows. He had Jessica for a week, but she has no memory of it,” Wynn said.

“I bet you Shysie knows,” Paris chuckled.

“How did you find out how she became a day walker again?” Wynn wondered.

“I drank her blood,” Paris laughed. “She was not happy about that.”

“And you did not see if she is currently involved with Torvald?” Wynn questioned, hoping that Shysie was not involved with Torvald. Wynn might not approve of his sister’s behavior, but she was his only family.

“Her mind has gaps. Nothing about Torvald,” Paris said.

“I guess Lauturi put some sort of spell on Shysie’s mind, hiding anything related to Torvald,” Wynn came to the obvious conclusion.

Both of them sped over to the girl’s dorm room when they heard them scream.

“Spider!” Ann pointed to the wall, Jessica hiding behind her.

Paris and Wynn chuckled with relief. Paris sped over to where the spider was on the wall and scooped it up before walking it over to the window.

“Don’t let it free! It will come back. Kill it,” Ann ordered.

“It is harmless,” Paris said and waited for the spider to walk off his hand against the outside wall.

“What are you guys doing around campus?” Ann asked, looking at Paris.

The two of them looked at each other not sure how to answer, not wanting to tell more people about how vampires can become daywalkers and also not wanting to scare Ann.

“Looking for you,” Wynn said.

“Let me geuss, Deacon?” Jessica snorted.

“The man loves you,” Wynn said.

“He loves only himself,” Jessica laughed.

“So, you truly want to tell me that you have absolutely no feelings for him?” Wynn wanted to know. “You were so desperate to forget him that you claimed Lestat.”

“I don’t have to listen to this. Please leave,” Jessica demanded.

Wynn threw his hands up in the air and walked out of the room.

“Paris, can we talk?” Ann stopped him, grabbing his arm.

“Don’t you have a boyfriend?” Paris asked, looking into her eyes.

“I don’t,” Ann choked, letting go of his arm.

“I saw you with Michael,” Paris said.

“When I found out the truth, I made him look for you,” Ann said, desperate.

“I am going to give you two some space,” Jessica said and left the room.
