Chapter 34
“I share this room with Ami now; you can’t just come and go as you please,” Ann said.
“Be my girlfriend,” Paris asked out of the blue.
“I thought you said I belong to the Vampire King?” Ann teased.
“Shouldn’t you be the one to decide who you belong to?” Paris asked and stood up.
“Sure, but you are the one that made it clear that I belong to Michael,” Ann reminded him, taking off her coat.
“Only because he said I should stay away from you that you are his.” Paris spilled the beans.
“Really?” Ann wondered if Paris was telling the truth since Michael told her to explore her feelings for Paris.
“I know what you are thinking. I saw it when I drank from you,” Paris said, biting open his own wrist to show Ann the conversation between Michael and him.
“Don’t you think you have lost enough blood for one day?” Ann asked, meeting him halfway, and put her mouth on his wrist.
Ann saw more than just their conversation. She can see and feel the love that Paris had for her and it was like nothing she had experienced before, not even when drinking from Michael. ‘How can he have such strong feelings for me when he barely even knows me?’ she thought as her eyes met his that was on her.
“I do know you. I know everything there is to know about you because I drank from you that first night when we met at the club,” Paris said, answering her thoughts.
“Why would he tell me one thing and you something else?” Ann asked after seeing the truth for herself.
“He is as much taken by you as I am, I guess, and he comes from a period where men don’t tell women what to do, as far as I know,” Paris said.
“So what? He tells me to go for it and you to stay away? Hoping to make me think you don’t have any interest in me?” Ann questioned, feeling the need to teach Michael a lesson.
“Well, he is my king now and has the power to execute me for disobeying him,” Paris said.
“Not if I have a say in it,” Ann said stubbornly.
“He won’t listen to. Why would he?” Paris asked, laughing.
“Because I own him,” Ann said with an evil grin on her face.
“You? What makes you think that?” Paris asked, realizing that she was serious.
“The Prehistoric are as much bind by a vampire promise as the rest of you. Now take me to him,” Ann demanded, standing ready so that Paris could pick her up.
“He might be gone already; he went to go see some enchantress,” Paris said.
“Why?” Ann asked.
“I don’t know. He just ordered Wynn to take him tonight. All I know is it can’t be good, as every Supernatural knows; you stay away from enchantresses,” Paris said.
“Take me to your compound now,” Ann demanded.
“Why?” Paris objected again.
“You just said that everyone knows you should stay away from an Enchantress,” Ann reminded him.
“Yeah, so, nothing you say or do will make him not go,” Paris said, laughing.
“I control him by a promise to obey me,” Ann reminded him.
Paris picked Ann up, and jumped through her window, speeding off to the compound.
As her feet touch the ground in front of the door, the door opened and Michael and Wynn walked out.
“Don’t move!” Ann immediately ordered Michael, knowing he can speed off at any moment.
“Why not?” Michael asked, looking at Paris and then back at Ann.
“What do you want from an Enchantress?” Ann asked.
Michael looked around him, not willing to say it while there are other vampires around, knowing what they will all do with the information he had.
“Don’t make me force you to tell me,” Ann warned.
Michael bite open his wrist and held it out to her.
“That much of a secret?” Ann asked, walking over to Michael and putting her mouth to his palm, drinking his blood.
Ann saw that Paris was telling the truth regarding Michael telling him off but when she saw why Michael wanted with an Enchantress she stopped drinking, the shock clear on her face, “are you insane?”
“A little,” Michael admitted.
“Pick me up and let’s go someplace to speak privately,” Ann demanded.
Michael does as she says and a short moment later, they stood in the play park.
“You are so desperate to be rid of your promise to me you are willing to risk everything? What if the other vampires find out?” Ann asked, furious.
“I cannot be the Vampire King and be ruled by a human,” Michael said, frustrated. ‘I am going to kill Paris,’ he thought.
“Why did you tell me to explore my feelings for Paris but told him to stay away from me?” Ann demanded to know.
Michael felt his skin burning a bit from not answering her immediately, “because I knew if I demanded you to be with me and me alone you would be stubborn. I was thinking if you think you have the freedom to be with whomever you want to be, then you won’t feel the need to practice such freedom and just be with me.”
Ann sighed before speaking, “you are never, ever to seek out an Enchantress ever!”
“Come on!” Michael said, angrily.
“And you are not to punish or hold it against Paris for telling me,” Ann continued. “In fact, you are never to harm Paris or be the cause of any harm to Paris, whatsoever.”
“Anything else?” Michael asked sarcastically.
“You make it very difficult for me to want to choose you over Paris when you are behaving like this,” Ann said.
“I am used to sharing myself with many women, but not my women with other men,” Michael explained.
“I am not your woman,” Ann said, walking off towards her house.
“Can I take you home?” Michael offered.
“No thank you, I can walk,” Ann said, walking on.
Michael sped back to the compound and just gave Paris an angry look.
“I take it we are not going anymore?” Wynn asked, gladly.
Shysie looked at Paris before taking him by the hand, “come I have something to show you.”
“When are you going to get it into your head? I am not interested in you? You had me for 900 years now. Leave me the f*ck alone!” Paris shouted before speeding off to his room.
“Someone is in a bad mood,” Shysie said, feeling slightly embarrassed that he treated her like that in front of the nest. Shysie looked around at all the vampires, most of them Prehistoric, all the men looking at her, as if they are saying, ‘pick me, I will be your man.’ Shysie just rolled her eyes, and they landed on Michael.
“In your dreams sweetheart,” Michael told her off as he does not like her very much for what she has done to Ann. ‘She might be pretty, but her soul is pure dirt,’ he thought before swinging his legs over one of the many couches in the extra-large living room, facing the big screen. The remote got passed to him without him having to ask for it.
“Who says I want you in anyway? I have a whole nest of men to choose from,” Shysie said sarcastically, leaving.
“No one is to lay with her or pay her any attention,” Michael ordered before changing the tv.
“That’s going to kill her,” Wynn laughed, before speeding off to go see Jessica.
Around the dinner table at the Steel residence, Mrs. Steel and Jovita were telling Jessica about their day and the handsome guy they ran into.
“He said Mr. Ondrink is his godfather, and he is in the same grade as you, Jessica,” mother said.
“Cool,” Jessica said, uninterested and not too happy about the fact that her parents will go to school with her.
“So, do you like the new décor items? I was thinking we can paint one room over the weekend, then you girls share a room and then the next over the next weekend?” her mother suggested.
“Sure,” Jessica said, knowing it won’t help to argue.
“What is the matter, honey?” her mother asked.
“I need some air,” Jessica said, excusing herself.
“I will join you,” Jovita said, about to stand up.
“Please, I need some time with my thoughts,” Jessica explained.
Jessica put on her coat and left the house.
“I was just about to ring the doorbell,” Wynn said when the door opens.
“Wynn,” Jessica said, her heart skipping a beat. She flung her arms around him. “I knew you were just pretending in front of everyone.”
“We need to talk,” Wynn said, pulling her off him even though he wanted to hold her forever.
“That we certainly do,” Jessica said, closing her front door.
They started to walk, and Jessica was the first to speak up. “What is going on?”
“I feel something, and I do remember the feelings I had for you, but they are not as intense as to when we were mated,” Wynn explained.
“But why am I the one left with a broken heart and at the same time I cannot stop thinking about Prince Deacon?” Jessica asked, wishing she could have her wild and free heart back to the way it was before her 18th birthday a few weeks ago.
“My wolf no longer exists, so I don’t suffer the after effects as a Lycan, like yourself does,” Wynn explained.
“You must be angry about what Prince Deacon did to you,” Jessica asked.
“Not really. I know you think he is horrible, but I know a different side to him,” Wynn said, smiling.
“How can you smile while talking about that monster?” Jessica asked, shocked by his loving tone towards Prince Deacon.
“We used to be best friends not so long ago. We know each other for a long time,” Wynn explained.
“Really?” Jessica asked.
“Yeah, I witness his birth and that of his brothers,” Wynn explained.
“So, you are like an older brother to them?” Jessica asked.
“Something like that,” Wynn laughed at the idea.
“Why do you care about him after what he did to you, to us?” Jessica asked, still not able to accept Prince Deacon.
“To tell you the truth, I have always been looking for a way to get rid of the wolf part of me. Prince Deacon and I researched it and even tried different things on hybrids that was sentenced to death, but never in a million years would we have thought it is as simple as burning hybrid in wolf form,” Wynn said, thinking about how simple it was. ‘Painful but simple.’
“So, you are a monster like him?” Jessica asked.
“They were going to die in any way. The reward was always if they survive the experiment and are left being only a vampire, then they are free,” Wynn tried to justify their actions.
“Guess that is fair enough,” Jessica said.
“So, will you give Prince Deacon a chance? At least get to know him,” Wynn asked.
“Never. Nothing you say will make me forgive him. I hate the fact that I am attracted to him. How can I break the mate bond with him?” Jessica asked.
“You can’t, since it was done with a shaman spell,” Wynn lied, knowing she can un-mate the same way they did, but if she does, it won’t be un-done for Prince Deacon.
“That sucks,” Jessica said, upset.
“So, you and I can really not be together?” Jessica asked after walking a while in silence, taking his hand.
“I can’t do that to Prince Deacon,” Wynn explained.
“So, not only am I stuck with him forever, but he is also preventing me from being with the guy I love,” Jessica said, angrily.
“Your love for me will fade soon enough,” Wynn tried to cheer her up. “You know I liked you before we were mated.”
“Really? I did not pick that up,” Wynn chuckled.
“I couldn’t pursue you because Ann admitted her crush first. Well, Shysie told me you two had a thing, so you were immediately of limits,” Jessica explained.
“Your feelings will fade,” Wynn responded.
“How soon?” Jessica asks, eager to know.
“Um, well, actually scrap that. Normally, the love for a fated mate fades when you re-mate, so I don’t know why you are still feeling like you are in love with me,” Wynn said, confused himself.
“You are not really helping,” Jessica laughed.
“Hey, at least I got you to laugh,” Wynn said, smiling.
