Chapter 52
The next morning, Jessica woke up from the most amazing dream about Deacon. She was grateful for the night without pain and felt at peace. She thought about the kiss between her and Deacon on the dance floor and touched her lips. ‘Perhaps claiming him won’t be the worst idea,’ she thought and got out of bed.
‘Can we meet? I think it is time I claim you,’ Jessica mind linked Deacon.
Deacon sat up, abruptly. ‘Did I dream that?’
‘No. I want to claim you,’ Jessica mind linked him.
‘Yes. Yes. Should I come to fetch you?’ Deacon questioned.
‘No. Will see you this afternoon. Ok?’ Jessica mind linked.
‘Ok. Great. See you,’ Deacon mind linked back.
“Yes!” Deacon shouted in excitement.
“What are you so happy about?” Emily asked, walking into his room with a cup of coffee for him.
“Jessica just mind linked me. She is ready to claim me!” Deacon said.
“Finally,” Emily said and passed him his coffee, hiding her sadness, but knew it was the best for Deacon.
“Can you hang out at the compound this afternoon? She is coming here,” Deacon asked.
“Of course. I will clean up. Can't let the girl claim you in a messy house,” Emily said before speeding off through the house, cleaning up.
Deacon fell backward, content, smiling.

“Do we really have to go to a pack meeting today? I have plans,” Jessica protested when her real parents dragged her out of the house.
“I still have to pack a few things. Ann and her family are leaving tonight,” Jessica reminded them.
“We will be back in time,” Jovita said as they got into Juno’s car.
By the time they got to the pack, Mr. Ondrink was done with Ann’s spell.
“Do I smell Ann?” Jessica questioned, walking into an Igloo.
Some of the elders stepped in and caught her just in time. The moment she stepped into the Igloo a spell made her pass out.
“You two should stay outside,” Mr. Ondrink told Jovita and Juno.
“Is this going to take long?” Jovita asked.
“A bit longer than Ann as I have to alter her memories regarding the two of you so as to not wipe you completely from her mind,” Mr. Ondrink said and went back inside the Igloo.
“Want to shift and play in the snow while we wait?” Juno asked, feeling like a kid.
“Like back in the day?” Jovita asked, thinking about the first time they came to the pack.
While the two of them ran around in their wolf form, carrying on like kids, Mr. Ondrink wiped Jessica’s memories.
Deacon was counting the hours and just after midday he tried to mind link Jessica. ‘Please tell me you didn’t change your mind.’
‘Jessica?’ he tried again, wondering why he was not getting through.
‘Is Jessica ok?’ Deacon mind linked Jovita.
‘Yes. She is fine. She is sleeping now. The spell was successful,’ Jovita responded.
‘No,’ Deacon responded.
‘Yes,’ Jovita replied, confused.
‘She was going to claim me,’ Deacon mind linked.
‘What?’ Jovita questioned.
‘She mind linked me this morning saying she was ready to claim me this afternoon. I didn’t know the spell was going to be placed this morning,’ Deacon mind linked, tears running down his face.
‘We can fix this. Ondrink said that the spell will break when she falls naturally in love with you,’ Jovita explained.
‘Won't she automatically be in love with me because of the bond?’ Deacon questioned.
‘She will be attracted to you but not necessarily be in love with you, you know that,’ Jovita said.
Deacon took a deep breath and shut his mind off from everyone. Later that night Emily returned, excited to see a mark on Deacon’s collarbone.
“So, how did it go?” Emily asked, wondering why Jessica was not around.
“She never came,” Deacon responded, sad.
“You poor thing,” Emily said, reaching out to comfort him.
“No,” Deacon stopped her. “Us, together will only hurt her and she won't understand it.”
“I see,” Emily said, and sat down across from him.
“You can stay here as long as you wish. I will have to find a way to make her fall in love with me. It will break the spell,’ Deacon said, standing up, feeling up for the challenge.
“You got this. Just put a smile on that pretty face and she will fall over her feet for you,” Emily chuckled.
“Thank you for saving her,” Deacon said.
“You can stop thanking me,” Emily chuckled.
“See you again. You have my cell number if you need anything,” Deacon said, going up the stairs to pack his things.
Emily chuckled at the thought as if she has not been taking care of herself all these years.
Deacon only packed a few things and had Emily drop him off at the airport. “This is one of my favorite cars. Take care of it,” Deacon said, and handed her the keys.
“We can't even hug goodbye?” Emily questioned.
“Sure,” Deacon said, and gave her a hug. “I will always love you.”
“I know,” Emily said, a tear escaping her eye.
Deacon looked at her face and rubbed away the tear. He felt his heart ache and knew that Jessica felt the betrayer of affection for Emily and stepped away from Emily.
Emily watched as he walked to the nearest ticket counter with her hand on her chest. ‘How can I even feel sad? I don’t have a fucking heart,’ she thought.

Jessica was saying goodbyes when she felt her chest paining.
“Are you ok, honey?” her mother, Mrs. Steel, asked when she saw Jessica clinging to her chest.
Jovita and Juno looked at each other. ‘That asshole. He just can't help himself,’ Jovita mind linked.
‘I am going to kill him,’ Juno promised.
“Must be the thought of not seeing you guys for a while,” Jessica brushed the pain off and embraced her mother.
“You will come to visit us and both your father and I put in leave for a month from now. We will see you soon. We can wear matching swimsuits,” her mother joked.
“I am holding you to that,” Jessica chuckled and turned to her father. “I love you, daddy.”
“Love you two, my princess,” he said, tearing up.
‘If only he knew the truth,’ Juno mind linked Jovita.
“You two look out for each other,” Mr. Steel put a hand on Jessica’s shoulder and one Jovita’s.
“And you, I hold you responsible for them,” Mrs. Steel pointed a finger at Juno.
“With my life,” Juno assured her, and the smile on Mrs. Steel face told him that she believed him.
A hooting outside made them walk outside. An Uber was taking them to the airport where they will meet up with Ann and her family; Mr. Willow (Eljo), Mrs. Willow, Eero, and Ami. Eero was spelled into Ann’s mind as a child from her father donating sperm in his younger days and her younger brothers as well, claiming that the parents used all sperm from one donor and they died recently. The younger brothers will meet them once they have settled in their new home.

“I kind of feel sad, but don’t think I am going to miss Barrow,” Ann said as they boarded the plane.
“I know what you feel,” Jessica said and reached for the overhead storage. “This is my seat,” she said, looking at Deacon.
“I thought you would like the window instead of the passage side,” Deacon said with a smile.
“She is scared of heights,” Ann chuckled and pushed past Deacon to take the window seat, thinking Deacon was good-looking.
“Excuse me,” Jessica said and brushed past Deacon, a warm sensation sweeping through her, making her feel calm. “I think the middle seat is perfect,” Jessica said with a smile.
Deacon smiled at her.
“At least I get to sit next to a hot guy for the flight,” Jessica whispered at Ann, making Deacon smile as he could hear her.
“Good distraction,” Ann chuckled.
“Petty,Petty, we don’t have William’s private jet right now,” Jessica said, wondering why she said that.
“Tell me about it,” Ann agreed, confused herself.
‘What are you doing on our plane?’ Jovita mind linked Deacon.
‘What do you think I am doing?’ Deacon mind linked her back with a warning eye not to push the matter further.
Eljo, Eero, Ami, and Ann’s mom wondered what Deacon was doing on the plain but decided not to make it their business as he was the one that agreed that their memories should be wiped so they had no doubt that he will not mess things up.
“I had this crazy dream about this gorgeous guy. I dreamt I had sex,” Ann whispered to Jessica.
“Ooh, tell me more,” Jessica said.
Deacon listened to Ann telling Jessica about her dream and he wondered if she really dreamt it or did she really have sex with Paris. He smiled at the thought.
“So, are you from Barrow?” Jessica turned to face Deacon when she caught him smiling at their conversation, off guard.
“Um, no, yes, not really, kind of,” Deacon stumbled over his words, making both girls chuckle.
“Oh my word, we are going to die,” Jessica said and grabbed Ann’s arm, sitting back in her seat.
Deacon held out his hand to her. “Need another hand?”
Jessica grabbed his hand and shut her eyes.
Ann laughed and shook her head, resting back in her seat and re-visiting what she thought was only a dream.
