Chapter 90

After class that day Deacon, Juno and Jovita forced Jessica into a meeting at the higher council.
“I have assignments to catch up on,” Jessica protested as they walked into the lycan throne room.
“Where have you been this past week?” Deacon questioned.
“Did Torvald hurt you?” Jovita questioned.
“What did he do to you?” Juna questioned.
“I don’t know,” Jessica answered, pointing at Deacon. “No, he did not,” Jessica answered, pointing at Jovita. “Nothing,” she answered, pointing at Juno. “The last thing I remember was Lestat dying. When I woke up this morning, I thought it was a dream but when Ann told me I was gone for a week I realised that it was not a dream.”
“Why would Torvald abduct you only to return you after a week without a word?” Deacon questioned.
“How should I know?” Jessica spat. “Can I go now?”
“Not so fast,” Deacon stopped her from walking away.
“Ondrink will join us shortly to perform the fated mate spell again so that you can claim me as your forever mate,” Deacon said, reminding her of the promise she made.
Jessica rolled her eyes and walked over to the two thrones and sat on the larger one of the two.
“She agreed to claim you?” Juno asked shocked.
“Yes,” Deacon smiled.
“Are you sure? She does not look to happy about it,” Jovita said, looking over at Jessica.
“Does it matter? She will be happy about it once we are forever mates,” Deacon chuckled.
“What did the letter say that Lestat gave you?” Juno changed the subject.
“I forgot about it,” Deacon said and took the letter our of his back pocket. Deacon took the letter out of the envelope that was already torn and unfolded the letter.
To Juno and Jovita, it looked like a blank piece of paper but not to Deacon.
THE LETTER
Torvald made me put an obedient spell over Michael in return for a promise to leave Lestat alone.
Michael won’t be able to communicate this with you due to the spell he is under. The spell is forever and cannot be undone.
You might be wondering why I am telling you this? Torvald betrayed me when he killed Lestat. When you read this letter, I will be dead.
You can turn Emily into a day walker by placing the heart of a hunter or the offspring of a hunter (even halfblooded) into her chest, where her heart used to be.
If you are wondering who set Torvald free in the first place; it was Katelina. None of his wives made the promise not to help Torvald.
One last thing.
While you read this letter a spell released that binds your life to Lestat’s.
If he dies, you die.

“So, nothing about Jessica?” Juno questioned after Deacon read the letter.
Deacon turned the page around. “Nothing. That is, it.”
“What do we do about Michael?” Jovita asked, worried.
“Let it play out. It is the only way we will be able to catch Tovald and he won’t see us coming, thinking he is setting us trap,” Deacon suggested.
“Sounds like a plan then,” Juno agreed.
“At least now we know how Paris became a day walker, but it still does not explain how he managed it,” Jovita stated, recalling some of the contents of the letter.
“Why is Paris not behind bars?” Juno questioned.
“Paris is not a monster. I will talk to him and get to the bottom of how he acquired Stella’s heart,” Deacon assured them.
“What are you going to do about Emily?” Jovita questioned, wondering if Jessica was of the hook. ‘Why would she agree to claim Deacon in the first place?’ Jovita wondered to herself.
“The contents of this letter stay between us,” Deacon said. “Jessica is my future,” he said, looking over at her. Almost loosing Jessica and thinking he killed her made him realise that he was in love with her, fated mate bond or not, he wanted her.
“You guys are more than welcome to stay behind to witness Ondrink bind us again,” Deacon said and mind linked Wynn.
‘Where are you? Ondrink will be here any moment,’ Deacon mind linked.
‘Ami just woke up. Will be there shortly,’ Wynn mind linked back.

“How are you feeling my dear?” Queen Amirah asked, taking Ami’s hand.
“The baby?” Ami questioned, putting her hands on her belly.
“The baby is perfectly fine,” Wynn said and took her other hand, kissing it.
“Wynn thought about claiming you when you wake up. How do you feel about it?” Queen Amirah questioned, wanting to waste no time.
“Give us a moment please,” Ami said, looking at her mother.
“Of course,” Queen Amirah said and pressed a kiss on Ami’s forehead.
After Queen Amirah left Ami looked at Wynn. “What is going on? You seem off?”
Wynn took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I don’t want to lose you and still want to claim you as my forever mate but I believe we are not true fated mates. I know once we claim each other we won’t have feelings for other people but the fact that we do means that we are bonded by a spell.
“That day I saw Eero I considered the possibility but didn’t want to belief it,” Ami admitted.
“What do we do now?” Wynn questioned.
“We are having a baby together so we should stay together,” Ami suggested.
After a long moment of silence Wynn realised that Ami would be with Eero right now if the two of them were not fated. “I am not the father of your baby.”
“What? How do you know that?” Ami choked.
“Eero kissed you. He touched you and if you carried a hybrid, he would have reacted, but he didn’t. He did not even pick up you were pregnant,” Wynn explained.
“You are telling me that this baby is Eero’s?” Ami questioned.
“Unless you have been with someone else, yes,” Wynn said, already feeling his heart break.
Ami looked at her hands that was on her flat belly, not knowing what to say.
“Do you think my mother had the spell put over me to fate us to one another?” Ami wondered.
“It can only be her work. She has been so desperate for me to claim you that not a day went by that she did not try to push me to claim you while you are in a coma,” Wynn said.
“Before the incident she told me I can claim you while pregnant,” Ami said.
“She told me that as well, but I spoke to a few were-owl shamans and doctors and they assured me that the baby wont survive,” Wynn said, putting his hands on top of hers.
“So. mom wanted the baby to die not wanting me to be tied to Eero,” Ami said, tears running down her face.
“Reject me,” Wynn said, wiping the tears from her face.
Ami shook her head, no. “You don’t deserve the heartache. You go first.”
“I don’t want you to suffer. This baby has been through enough,” Wynn said.
“I Ami Noble, reject you, Wynn Mateo, as my fated mate,” Ami said, unsure of herself.
Wynn felt the sharp familiar pain of rejection and responded promptly. “I Wynn Mateo accept your rejection, Ami Noble.” Wynn let go of her hand and stood up, but his knees buckled under the heart ache and he had to support himself. Wynn leaned over and kissed Ami. “I will send your mother in.”
Wynn took a deep breath and took a slow steady walk towards the door.
“Don’t. I need time for myself,” Ami said, wiping the tears of her cheeks.
Wynn stood at the door for a moment, facing it. After taking a deep breath he let it out as he opened the door. He was relieved not to see Queen Amirah there and walked over to the throne room.
Wynn came to an abrupt halt before entering the lycan throne room as it occurred to him that he might fate to Jessica again.
‘What if I fate to her again? Will I be able to reject the bond? Will the bond even be rejectable?’ Wynn hesitated, remembering Ondrink’s words the second time he fated to Jessica; a second time fating to the same person is not breakable by rejection, only death.’
