Chapter 137

“I cannot believe that there is a war going on. It is so peaceful and normal here,” Prince Deacon said.

“Will you volunteer?” Emily wondered.

“Do you want me to?” Prince Deacon asked, willing to do whatever she wanted him to.

“Well,” Emily was about to say no, that she does not believe in war, but got interrupted.

“Here we are,” the driver said after bringing the car to a halt in front of Emily’s house.

After paying the driver, Prince Deacon walked Emily to her front door. “Thank you for a lovely picnic.”

“No, thank you,” Emily said, smiling from ear to ear.

“I would kiss you, but I know it is not the proper way here,” Prince Deacon said, before stepping away from her.

“See you for afternoon tea,” Emily said before walking into her house and shutting the door, leaning against it. ‘Is this what it feels like to be in love?’ she wondered.

Prince Deacon walked over to his own residence before Princess Freda noticed him, but when he got into his house, he heard her in the living room, chatting with Wynn.

‘What is she doing here?’ Prince Deacon mind links Wynn, sneaking up the stairs.

‘Where have you been?’ Wynn mind linked him back.

‘I want her gone. I am having Emily over for afternoon tea,’ Prince Deacon mind linked.

‘Princess Freda already invited herself over for afternoon tea,’ Wynn mind linked.

‘Then un-invite her,’ Prince Deacon mind linked, closing his bedroom door as softly as he could manage.

Prince Deacon lay on his bed, looking at the ceiling, happy as can be. ‘I will be damn if I am going to let Princess Freda ruin this for me.’

“I should be going, see you for tea then, and remember what I said, so best you make Prince Deacon put Emily aside or I will take matters into my own hands,” Princess Freda threatened before leaving.

Once home, Princess Freda called for a meeting with her mother and Alfred. “I have decided that I want Alfred and his family gone.”

“You have decided?” Princess Bently shook her head in disbelief.

“If you don’t make them leave, then I will let everyone know that you are sleeping with Lord Wynn and that my father was not really my father,” Princess Freda said flatly.

“I beg your pardon?” Princess Bently asked, shocked at her daughter’s behavior over a man. Alfred's expression gave away that it was nothing new to him.

“I know that Lord Wynn is my brother, it is as clear as daylight,” Princess Freda said thinking it is best not to let her mother know that she was actually supernatural and that Lord Wynn was her father.

“You watch yourself, young lady. I cannot believe that you are so crazy about a man. Your behavior is out of control,” Princess Bently said.

“I am going to marry Lord Deacon; even if it’s the last thing I do,” Princess Freda said, sitting in an armchair.

“I will be more than happy to move away,” Alfred admitted.

“Then it is settled. You will take your family and leave as soon as tomorrow,” Princess Freda demanded.

“What about our house?” Alfred said.

“We will pay you for it, not that you need the money,” Princess Bently said, thinking it is best to let Alfred go after all.

“You are not to tell anyone that you are leaving, not even your children. You will pretend to take them on a little trip, and you won't return,” Princess Freda said.

“I will be off then to go make arrangements. Please have the money for my house and belongings in it ready by tomorrow morning if you want us gone tomorrow,” Alfred said before leaving.

“I think this plan might actually work, but are you sure you want a man that is clearly smitten with another?” Princess Bently asked.

“He is only smitten with her because she wears my hand-me-downs. She is tricking him and with her gone, he will find comfort in my arms,” Princess Freda said.

Alfred got home and informed his children that they will be taking a little holiday soon.

“But papa, it is courting season and I would really like to be engaged by the end of the season,” Emily pleaded.

“It is just for a week, my dear. Before you ask, no, you cannot stay behind, and Lord Deacon cannot come with you. It will be family time,” Alfred said.

“Very well then, I suppose a week is not that long,” Emily said.

“You should go into town and buy yourself a few more clothing items,” Alfred said, remembering that Emily returned all Princess Freda’s dresses.

“You are right, I will call for a cab,” Emily said, walking over to the telephone.

Once Emily left to go to town, Alfred called and made arrangements for two cabs to take his family away in the morning after breakfast.

Emily returned from town with a cab full of dresses, just in time for afternoon tea with Prince Deacon.

Afternoon tea went well until Princess Freda knocked on the door.

“I regret to inform you that you are to return later,” Benjamin said, blocking Princess Freda.

“I know you are inside, Emily!” Princess Freda shouted from the door.

“Not this again,” Prince Deacon said, standing up.

“Let me handle her,” Wynn stood up.

“No. Perhaps if she heard it from me, she will get the point,” Prince Deacon said, furious, making his way over to the door.

“I doubt that,” Emily said, looking down at her cup of tea.

“What don’t you understand? I told you that I am mated for good with Miss Emily,” Prince Deacon grabbed Princess Freda by her arm and pulled her into the house, pinning her to the wall.

“You are hurting me,” Princess Freda cried.

“Let it be a warning,” Prince Deacon warned her and let go of her, sending her running back to her own house.

“Let’s hope she gets the point now,” Prince Deacon said, composing himself as he walked back into the living room.

The rest of the afternoon tea went smoothly and Wynn slipped away, going over to Princess Bently’s mansion to make sure that Princess Freda was ok.

‘What am I going to do with her? I should line up a prince or two; perhaps I can find her, her fated mate,’ Wynn thought as he walked over.

“Fancy coming with me tomorrow into town. I want to buy a car and hire a driver,” Prince Deacon asked, picking up his cup of coffee and taking a sip.

“I would have loved to but my family and I are going on a little holiday,” Emily said.

“Do you have to go?” Prince Deacon asked.

“I am afraid so, but we will be back in a week,” Emily assured him.

“Then I will wait for your return,” Prince Deacon said, wondering if he will be able to be without her for a week.

“Will it be terribly rude of me to ask if I may kiss you?” Prince Deacon asked, standing closer.

“If you promise not to tell anyone,” Emily joked, standing up.

Prince Deacon took her one hand and put his other hand on her cheek before leaning in and brushing his lips ever so softly against hers, wondering if she kissed anyone besides him.

Emily felt her knees going weak and Prince Deacon supported her just in time before parting her lips with his tongue and kissing her deeply, leaving her breathless.

“Please come for dinner,” Prince Deacon asked her after releasing her from his passionate kiss.

“I will,” Emily said, still breathless, holding on to him.

“In fact, you don’t even have to leave now, you can just stay here until dinner,” Prince Deacon said, as they sat down on the nearest two-seater.

“I should go and help my pappa pack,” Emily said, recovering.

“I will walk you over,” Prince Deacon said, pulling her up from the sofa.

With her arm around his arm, they walked over to her house, a few ladies and gentlemen standing around, staring and clearly gossiping.

“Pay no attention to them,” Prince Deacon said.

“I guess this is why my pappa is taking us on a holiday; so that I don’t have to face the gossip,” Emily said, smiling politely when they walked past two ladies.

“I saw you went shopping earlier. I hope you have something fancy because dinner is going to be fancy, but it will be just the two of us,” Prince Deacon said when they came to a halt at her front door.

“I am looking forward to it,” Emily said, standing on her tippy toes and kissing him on his cheek.
