Chapter 160

Soon Prince Deacon’s room was filled with royals including his parents.

“Mano, pull yourself together,” King Makens demanded, wondering what everyone must be thinking; Mano crying over Zara and Deacon not.

“We are not fools, leave the man, he just lost his mate,” Prince Andre said, making clear he knew the truth and now everyone else that did not know, knew.

“Get out!” Prince Duncan demanded again, wishing the heartache of a lost claimed fated mate on no one.

“Do you think a vampire did this?” King Makens asked.

“Perhaps drank her to death and sealed the wounds up and left her for dead? That will explain the blood in the water,” Prince Deacon suggested.

“Then we will have a dead vampire as she shifted into her wolf form nine months ago,” Prince Mano said, getting off the bed.

“I guess then you are right, the child is yours,” Prince Deacon said, not sure why he felt as if he just lost something.

“What are you talking about?” Prince Mano asked.

“When are you going to start taking notes?  If the baby was mine, it would have been wrongly formed or she would have had a miscarriage.  Have you ever known a woman to shift when pregnant?” Prince Deacon asked, finding it hard to understand how his youngest brother did not know these things.

Prince Mano shifted into his wolf form and ran off.

Prince Andre noticed the open window and then thought to himself, ‘Could Emily have taken the baby out of jealously?’ He picked up her vampire scent that was nothing like her human scent; that, and the perfume he smelled on her last night.

“I will scan the grounds and surroundings,” Prince Andre said before taking his shirt off and leaping through the window, shifting into his owl form.

Queen Lana walked into the bathroom and then back out to inspect Zara. “There is blood between her legs.  The blood in the bathtub is just her bleeding from birth.  Perhaps her death is the result of birth,” Queen Lana suggested.

“Then how do you explain the missing baby?” Prince Deacon asked.

“Stick with your brother, I am holding you responsible for his safety,” King Makens demanded Prince Deacon. Under the Kingship demand, Prince Deacon shifted and ran out of the room.

Prince Mano ran out of the castle, following a scent he picked up in prince Deacon's room, not noticing Wynn when he ran past him.

‘Fancy seeing you here, where have you been?’ Prince Deacon mind linked Wynn as he ran past him, following prince Mano.

Wynn was about to respond and tell him what he did when he got interrupted by king Makens. “Where have you been?”

Wynn followed king Makens into the castle but kept his mind blocked from him as he did not fall under his pack, “I, I was fighting in the war,” Wynn lied.

“Why are you blocking your mind from me?” King Makens wanted to know. Wynn opened his mind for a split second showing him the trenches and then blocked him again while they walked deeper into the hallway.

Wynn was relieved to see Shysie. “Where have you been? They almost locked me up and threw away the key until the next vampire-turning ceremony!”

“Well, I am sure that will be my fate real soon,” Wynn whispered, taking her by her arm and walking away from king Makens.

“What are you talking about?” Shysie asked.

“I turned Emily into a vampire,” Wynn whispered.

“You did what?” Shysie asked, shocked and concerned for her brother’s life as it was a bigger sin to turn someone into a vampire than it was to kill innocents.

“I didn’t know what else to do,” Wynn explained.

“Don’t tell a soul! And don’t let any of the humans drink from you,” Shysie warned as they walked over to the vampire wing of the castle.

“Where are prince Deacon and prince Mano off to in such a hurry?” Wynn asked.

“Zara gave birth to a girl last night and this morning she is dead, and the baby is gone.  They think a vampire did it,” Shysie said, shutting the door to the vampire hall, behind her.

“Why? It is the first royal birth in such a long time and a girl,” Wynn exclaimed.

“It beats me, but I think the wolves definitely pissed someone off,” Shysie chuckled.

“So where are you keeping Emily?” Shysie asked, curious.

“About that,” Wynn started.

“Please don’t say it,” Shysie interrupted him.

“I left her at one of prince Deacon’s residences, thinking he will come looking for us but he never showed,” Wynn explained.

“He has been bound by his father’s rule to stay put for the birth of his child, who turns out not to be his child, so I heard,” Shysie informed him.

“What do you mean?” Wynn asked.

“The night you guys left he was made to consummate his marriage,” Shysie started but Wynn interrupted her.

“I know that,” Wynn said.

“Let me finish,” Shysie rolled her eyes.  “After you guys left, she became close with prince Mano and my spies tell me that this morning over the corps of Zara, Mano said that Zara shifted that night after having s*x with prince Deacon, so that would have destroyed any chances of her falling pregnant.”

“Which leaves prince Mano?” Wynn added.

“Yes.  Sources also informed me that prince Deacon did not claim her and that scar on her collarbone was left by prince Mano,” Shysie said.

“This is a mess,” Wynn sighed.

“It is but there is another mess I would like some clarity on,” Shysie changed the subject.

“Clarity on what?” Wynn asked.

“There are too many ears here, we will finish this conversation later,” Shysie said, leaning back on the sofa she was sitting on.

“You always do this, leave me hanging,” Wynn said, standing up.

“Where are you going?” Shysie asked.

“I have to speak to prince Deacon,” Wynn said and walked out of the vampire hall.

Wynn went to his room and took off his clothes before shifting into his wolf form.

Outside the castle, he found prince Deacon’s scent easily and caught up with them when they took a little rest to catch their breaths, ‘where are you going?’

‘We are tracking down a vampire scent, female, wears perfume,’ Prince Deacon mind linked him.

‘The one you believe took the baby. Shysie told me,’ Wynn mind linked him.

Wynn caught the vampire scent and the familiar scent of Emily’s perfume. ‘How do you not recognize her perfume? I understand that a human smells different when they turn into a vampire, but she is wearing the same perfume.’

‘I recognize Emily’s perfume, but it is not uncommon for women to wear the same perfume as another,’ Prince Deacon said, seeing flashes of Emily in Wynn’s mind.

‘Explain,’ Prince Deacon mind linked him, trying to make sense of Wynn’s mind.

Wynn also saw in prince Deacon’s mind that he believed Emily to be dead all this time. ‘She is not dead.  I didn’t know what else to do so I turned her.’

Prince Deacon knew at that moment that the vampire they are tracking was Emily. ‘Why would she want to punish me? Why did she take the baby?’

‘I don’t know.  I never once caught a hint that she was angry towards you,’ Wynn mind linked.

‘They are going to punish the both of you.  You will be locked up for the rest of your life. Who knows what kind of experiments they will do on you since you can not be used for a vampire-turning ceremony.  Why would you turn her when you know the punishment for her will mean being locked up for the next one hundred years, until the next vampire-turning ceremony?’ Prince Deacon mind linked Wynn, filled with anger.

‘You will never catch up with her in your wolf form.  I will wait for night and find her,’ Wynn mind linked.

‘I have to go rogue,’ Prince Deacon mind linked Wynn.

‘Why?’ Wynn asked, confused.

‘My father can use his Kingship to get into my mind and if he sees what you have done, and that Emily is still alive; he will know that she took the baby. Do you think she killed the baby?' Prince Deacon mind linked.

‘I hope not,’ Wynn mind linked back.

‘You will have to go rogue too.  We will have to stay away until my parents die one day,’ Prince Deacon mind linked.

‘They will just find us again,’ Wynn mind linked.
