Chapter 48

Before Jessica knew what hit her, she got swept up and was carried away by the most beautiful female she has ever laid eyes on. “I will bite and kill you if you don’t let me go!” Jessica warned the female vampire.
“Please don’t. I am fighting for the good side, your side,” she said and hoped that the princess will believe her.
“What about my friends?!” Jessica yelled, the speed the female vampire was going on making the wind carry her voice away.
“I am Emily,” the dark head, blue-eyed vampire introduced herself, putting Jessica down. “Former fated and claimed mate of Prince Deacon.”
“Former?” Jessica questioned.
“We will wait out the day that is about to break here,” Emily said, and pulled the curtains.
“As far as I know, the midnight sun here in Alaska has no effect on vampires,” Jessica said, walking over to the door.
“We are not in Alaska anymore.” Emily blocked her path to the door.
“Where are we?” Jessica demanded to know.
“Canada, where the sun does actually kill vampires like me,” Emily said.
“My friends need me!” Jessica protested.
“Your friends need you to be safe. I need you to stay here so that I can go help them, ok?” Emily questioned.
“If you don’t return with them, I will leave. You have one hour,” Jessica said.
“Demanding like a queen already, I see,” Emily said.
“It is my fault that they are in this mess,” Jessica argued.
“Actually, it is not. I believe Torvald is behind this. If Deacon doesn’t have a pureblood Lycan royal as a queen, the Lycans and, well, the supernatural world will eventually retaliate,” Emily explained.
“Time is ticking,” Jessica reminded Emily.
“Princess, I will never make it back in time. I will leave as soon as the sun goes down again, I promise,” Emily said.
“Promise you are on my side?” Jessica questioned, remembering that vampires are bound to their promises.
“I promise I am on your side. Well, I am actually on Deacon’s side, but since you are his claimed mate, I am also on your side,” Emily promised.
“What about my friends?” Jessica wanted to know.
“It is you they want, right?” Emily repeated Jessica’s words she heard before she opened the door.

BACK IN ALASKA

When Deacon saw the familiar vampire speed off with Jessica, he could not believe his eyes.
‘Emily is alive? And abducted Jessica?’ Deacon remembered how Emily killed all the royal wives a hundred years ago while another vampire abducted their infant children to take revenge on him, blaming him for the death of her family and being turned into a vampire even though it was Wynn that turned her after he felt it was the only way to get Deacon’s parents off her back.
‘But we made up after that? Why will she abduct my mate now? Jealous? Revenge for killing her when I burnt down the house with her inside of it? Does she know I was under a spell?’ Deacon thought as he forced himself to use every part of him, every last bit of energy to fight the vampires that were dragging him towards the cabin, knowing he needed to get to Jessica before Emily killed her. ‘I can't believe she is alive all this time,’ Deacon thought, stressed.
Michael fought off many vamps and ridding them of their shaman necklace before compelling them to kill their own side. Out of breath, he stumbled towards the cage that shot up from out of the earth and trapped the hunters. ‘If there is a God, please don’t let them kill me,’ Micheal thought before putting his arm into the cage so that the hunters can become strong and get themselves out of the cage.
The snow was stained with blood and ash, everyone was still at it.
After Eljo and Eero touched Michael, their instincts kicked in and they clawed at him, trying to get to his heart. Wynn saw what was happening and dashed over, his speed and force lifting the cage right off the ground, the motion setting Micheal free from their clutches.
Wynn pushed another vampire between him and Michael, blocking Eero and Ejlo, and distracted them with a new vampire.
“Sorry, we can't help it,” they both yelled out while killing the vampire.
“Jessica has been stolen away, but Ami and Ann are still in the cabin,” Wynn said as another vampire launched for him.
Michael grabbed the vampire before it could get hold of Wynn and ripped his necklace off before compelling him, “go kill your own team.”
Both men sped over to the cabin where Deacon just got free from the vampires that were dragging him, ripping one's head right off.
“I am out of here,” the vampire that was responsible for Jessica said before attempting to speed off.
Wynn sped after him, “where the hell do you think you are going?”
“Who put you up to this? Torvald?” Wynn demanded to know.
Eljo sped over and smashed right into the vampire that Wynn was holding by the throat.
“You two and the rest of your nest better get out of here. We won't be able to stop now,” Eljo warned them, punching a hole in the vampire's chest.
“Don’t kill him! We need to know who put him up to it,” Michael shouted, but was too late.
“Get out of here! I already know. It is Emily!” Deacon shouted.
Wynn stumbled at the words but got back to his feet. “No, she wouldn’t! She is dead!” Wynn said.
“Get out of here!” Eljo said, fighting the urge to kill Wynn.
“Go!” Deacon yelled.
With only half a dozen vampires left, fleeing in all directions, the prehistoric nest was not needed anymore.
“Put us back into the cage!” Eljo yelled, running towards the cage, pulling Eero along, knowing if they don’t have a place to calm down, they will go after the nest.
Once Eljo and Eero were back in the cage, going crazy with vampire strength, Deacon ran over to the cabin.
“Are you two ok?” he asked.
“They took Jessica!” Ann cried.
“I know, I saw,” Deacon said.
“Is she dead?” Ami asked, her eyes full of tears, her face covered with ash and blood.
“I don’t feel anything, so she is still alive.
‘Jessica?’ Deacon tried to mind link her.
‘I am fine. Hanging out with your former mate. She was just about to tell me how the two of you met,’ Jessica mind linked him back.
‘Don’t trust her! She killed the royal wives a hundred years ago and had our children abducted,’ Deacon mind linked her.
‘She is on our side. Your side,’ Jessica mind linked him. ‘She promised.’
‘She did?’ Deacon asked, confused.
“Are you mind linking, Deacon?” Emily asked when she saw the changing facial expressions on Jessica’s face.
“Hello, puppy,” Emily said, waving in front of Jessica.
‘As beautiful as always,’ Deacon smiled at the beautiful Emily.
‘I am still here,’ Jessica remarked, feeling jealousy creep up In her.
‘Glad that you are jealous,’ Deacon mind linked her with a smile.
“I take it from that smile that Jessica is fine?” Ann questioned.
“Yes, she is perfectly fine,” Deacon said.
“Eero?” Ami wanted to know, making her way out of the cabin.
“Paris? Michael? My father?” Ann questioned.
“Fine. Wynn is also fine, by the way,” Deacon chuckled.
Ann and Ami rushed over to the cage.
“Daddy!” she pushed her hands through the cage to touch him but he rushed to the other side of the cage. “Not yet.”
“What is wrong with them?” Ann asked.
“Touching one too many vamps. They will be ok in a day or two,” Ami said, looking through the bars at Eero.
“You get some rest, princess,” Emily said and handed Jessica a blanket.
“You owe me a story. I want to know how you met Deacon and how the hell did you end up a vampire, and why did he tell me not to trust you?"
“Get comfortable because it is going to be a long story,” Emily chuckled, and sat on a sofa across from Jessica.
Emily was about to start her story when she noticed Jessica was fast asleep.
“Poor thing,” Emily said out loud and covered Jessica with the blanket, thinking, ‘I am just glad everyone is ok and it is all over, for now.’ But mostly she was happy that the man she loved had a forever mate again.
When Emily found out that Deacon’s forever mate was abducted, she promised herself that she will find her, if it was the last thing she did because she hated the way he spiraled out of control, believing she was dead. Emily has been hiding from Deacon, not because she didn’t love him, but because she knew being with him will mean that his bloodline will die out and so she waited for him to have children again.
Emily sat on a chair again and visited her own memories of how her life had begun with the supernatural world, a 100 years ago.
Her memories got interrupted by a knock on the front door. Emily sped over to the door, pressing her ear against the door, her palms against the door as well. She could feel the mid-day sun against the door.
“Emily?” She heard Deacon’s familiar voice, making her heart skip a beat.
“Are you sure this is the right house?” Emily heard an unfamiliar voice; Michael.
“I can smell them both inside,” Deacon said, and knocked again. He rest his palm against the door as if he could feel Emily on the other side. He rested his head against the door. “I know you are there.”
“Deacon,” Emily whispered, making his legs weak.
“Are you ok?” Michael caught Deacon, steadying him.
Emily unlocked the door and sped into the nearest dark room.
Deacon opened the door slowly to not shed too much sun into the house, remembering how it was to live with Emily before.
After entering the house, Micheal locked the door behind him again. He sped over to where Jessica was sleeping. “She is fine.”
Instead of going over to Jessica like his wolf's side wanted him to do, he followed the fresh scent of Emily.
He felt the doorknob, resting his hand on it, a tear escaping his eye.
Emily opened the door, and they just stood there for a moment, looking at each other. Deacon reached out and caressed her lips. Emily placed her own fingers on top of his. Deacon wrapped his hand around her head, pulling her in for a kiss.
Jessica woke up abruptly at the betrayal of the fated bond giving Michael, that was staring at her a fright.
Michael was so close to her face gave her a fright in return. “What the hell?” Jessica sat up.
“Sorry,” Michael said, and moved away from her. His eyes caught Deacon and Emily. “I thought he hates vampires.”
“Apparently not,” Jessica growled.
“Jealous? I thought you hate him?” Michael questioned, confused.
“I do,” Jessica said, clawing the sofa she was sitting on, fighting the urge to rip Emily’s throat out.
Deacon could feel Jessica’s anger and stepped deeper into the room before shutting the door.
“We should stop. You have a claimed fated mate now.” Emily pressed her fingers to his lips.
“One that won't claim me back,” Deacon said, passionately embracing her and showering her cold skin with kisses.
“Where have you been? I thought I killed you? How could you leave me in pain all this time?” Deacon questioned in between kisses as he started to rid her of her clothes.
“It was for your own good,” Emily tried to protest, but she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
Both of them got a fright when they heard a crash against the door, followed by a long scratching sound.
“Your mate obviously wants you,” Emily tried to push Deacon away.
“Until she claims me back, I will do with you what I want,” Deacon said, desperate to feel loved.
***
“Do you want me to take you out of here?” Michael suggested to Jessica that was clawing the door.
“I hate this fucking mate bond!” Jessica cried.
Michael grabbed her and sped off with her and didn’t stop until they were back in Barrow Alaska. Michael left Jessica on her doorstep before speeding over to Ann’s house. Instead of going to the front door, he went to her bedroom window. He knocked softly.
“Hi,” Ann whispered, opening the window. “Did you find Jessica?”
“I did. Why are we whispering?” Michael whispered back.
Ann looked over at a sleeping Ami. “Ami is sleeping. She is not doing too well. I don’t think she ever saw such horror in her life and she killed a few people. I don’t think she is coping too well. She keeps on saying, ‘he is a monster.’ I think she is referring to Eero. She saw him kill,” Ann explained.
Michael walked over to Ami, and rubbed a stranded hair from her face, not able to help himself to care and respect any woman, especially one with royal blood. “She is strong. She will pull through.”
“Of course she will,” Ann said, feeling a sting of jealously.
“My father and Eero?” Ann inquired as everyone decided to leave them in the cage for now.
“Wynn and Paris are baby-sitting them,” Michael said.
“You left two vampires with two Hunters?” Ann asked in disbelief.
“I left one experienced vampire and a hybrid with two caged Hunters,” Micheal said.
“Wynn is no longer a hybrid,” Ann said, taking a seat on her carpet, with her back against the wall under her window.
“I saw with my own eyes. He shifted just his hand, and the sun has no effect on him, but let's keep it between us. I am not so sure he wants anyone to know just yet,” Michael said and sat next to Ann, taking her hand.
“I love you,” Michael said and brought her hand to his mouth before kissing it.
“I think I love you too,” Ann said and brought his hand to her chest, warping her arms around his hand against her chest.
