Chapter 218
“Where is Emily?” Phoebe asked when she saw her grandmother, Queen Zuberi, Gabriella, the enchantress, and Princess Freda.
“She, well, um, she” Princess Freda struggled to find the words.
“She came with us but went in a different direction when she caught a familiar scent,” Queen Zuberi explained.
“She thinks she caught Prince Deacon’s scent, so she went to get her revenge,” Gabriella said, rolling her eyes.
“Why did you allow her to go?” Phoebe asked, shocked.
“Let her have him. You have grown way too fond of this royal family,” Queen Zuberi said.
“You seem to forget that they brought me up,” Phoebe reminded her, stubbornly.
“And you seem to forget that they killed your parents,” Queen Zuberi reminded her.
“And Emily’s whole family, along with my mother,” Princess Freda added.
“The royal brothers had nothing to do with it,” Phoebe defended them, concerned mainly for Prince Mano.
“I know them way longer than you do and trust me, they are not innocent. If it was not for them, a few supernatural species would still have been living amongst us. They had a hand in killing off all their cousins during the supernatural war,” Queen Zuberi said, holding out her palm to Phoebe, “see for yourself.”
“I believe you,” Phoebe said. “Can you do your magic so that I can go?” Phoebe asked Gabriella.
“Sure, but we are actually on our way to the castle,” Gabriella said.
“Why?” Phoebe asked, fearing that the time has come for Queen Zuberi’s revenge; revenge that was once on her own mind.
“It is time,” Queen Zuberi said.
After Gabriella put the spell on Phoebe’s mind, Phoebe pleaded with them, “Please allow me to get Jeanette and Karmen out first.”
“Of course. Princess Freda will take Jeanette to Spain and you will take Karmen back to her home,” Queen Zuberi said with a smile, calming Phoebe down.
“You have to take her to Poland. In fear that the royal family will track them down, they left for Poland,” Phoebe explained.
“Ok then, let's go,” Queen Zuberi said before picking Gabriella up and speeding in the direction of the higher council.
‘By the way, Prince Deacon has not been around here since I left the train station in Europe. According to Prince Mano’s mind, he left them on the train while searching for Princess Anse,’ Phoebe mind linked Princess Freda.
‘Yeah, I figured that much when Emily caught his scent while we were making our way through Europe,’ Princess Freda mind linked back.
‘Why did you go through Europe?’ Phoebe asked, confused.
‘Gabriella needed a few things,’ Princess Freda mind linked.
‘I see from your mind that the Raven visited Gabriella,’ Phoebe mind linked.
‘Yes, and her hunch was correct, he is a were-raven. You see these supernatural species your grandmother is talking about? Well, it turns out that they were-raven spotted a werewolf locked up at the higher council,’ Princess Freda showed her mind to Phoebe so that she could see herself what was said.
‘That is not uncommon. There are lots of supernatural locked up at the council,’ Phoebe mind linked.
‘An actual werewolf, like original, not like us,’ Princess Freda sowed her.
‘Who is he? It appears he is in some sort of tower, but the castle does not really have a tower, not that tall in any way,’ Phoebe mind linked.
‘Not sure as the raven only saw him in his werewolf form and thinks he recognizes him as King Maken's brother,’ Phoebe mind linked.
‘But King Makens is a Lycan, like us,’ Phoebe mind linked back, confused.
‘My grandmother told me that they had a human father but their mothers were supernatural; they had different mothers,’ Phoebe mind linked.
For the rest of the time, making their way to the council, they conversed through mind links.
“We will wait here; wait for the sun to set again and bring Jeanette here before going back for Karmen,” Queen Zuberi instructed.
“Ok, see you soon,” Phoebe said before speeding off, the sun hanging just after midday.
“Where have you been?” Prince Mano attacked Phoebe.
“Chasing a lead on Prince Deacon’s daughter,” Phoebe lied.
“I thought something happened to you because I woke up with a heartache yesterday,” Prince Mano explained.
“I unmated with you while you were sleeping,” Phoebe informed him.
“You give yourself to me only to un-mate with me?” Prince Mano asked, furious.
“Now is your opportunity to accept it,” Phoebe told him flatly.
“Fine, I Prince Mano Makens, accept your rejection, Princess Phoebe Makens,” Prince Mano blurted out in anger.
“You should also try all the other possible names I could have had,” Phoebe suggested.
“Why?” Prince Mano asked, angrily.
“Because when Jeanette tried to un-mate with Mateo, it didn’t work because they tried to do it with the names her adoptive parents gave her,” Phoebe explained.
“In your case, your mother named you Princess Phoebe Makens when she laid eyes on you the moment you were placed on her chest,” Prince Mano said.
“Oh, yeah, you showed me that memory,” Phoebe said, smiling.
“My parents are not going to be happy about this,” Prince Mano said.
“I have to speak to Jeanette really quick then I will come to talk to you,” Phoebe excused herself from Prince Mano’s company.
For the rest of the afternoon, Phoebe avoided Prince Mano and the King and queen, but dinner was unavoidable, as Jeanette and Karmen wanted to see their family one last time.
“Now remember, you can not be emotional, or else you will give the plan away,” Phoebe warned them before they walked into the dining hall.
“Prince Mano tells us you have a lead on Prince Deacon’s daughter?” Queen Lana asked, ignoring the fact that Phoebe didn’t come to tell her herself.
“I regret to inform you that it led to a dead-end unless the baby girl that was found in the streets one early morning, frozen to death, was, in fact, Prince Deacon’s daughter,” Phoebe lied.
“How did you find this out?” King Makens asked in disbelief.
“Like you, I choose to believe that it was not Prince Deacon’s daughter that the town folks are talking about, scaring their kids, saying she cries every Halloween,” Phoebe said.
“I have lost my appetite,” Queen Lana said, excusing herself.
Jeanette and Karmen chatted to their fathers and now and then Phoebe feared that they might give themselves away as the both of them are overdoing it. ‘I guess it is understandable since this might be the last time they ever see their fathers. I wish there was a way for me to get the brothers away from the council,’ she thought, fearing that Queen Zuberi will just kill them all. ‘I wonder how they plan to do it since there are only three of them, four of us, and a whole army of supernatural here,’ Phoebe thought to herself.
At midnight that evening, Phoebe took Jeannette to where her grandmother, Gabriella, and Princess Freda is waiting.
“I hope we meet again,” Jeanette said, embracing Phoebe.
“Promise me that you will never come back here, that you will forget this place and live a happy life,” Phoebe said.
“I promise,” Jeannette said, wiping tears from her face.
“Hi, I am Princess Freda, and I will be taking you to Poland. Do you know exactly where?” Princess Freda asked.
“Mateo showed me,” Jeanette said, opening her mind to Princess Freda.
“Ok, see you in a few days,” Princess Freda said, picking Jeanette up. They all decided it is best not to let the two princesses in on the war that was about to be unleashed on the higher council.
