Chapter 133
“Tell me, what are you going to do once you manage to win Emily’s heart over?” Wynn asked.
“I am going to marry her,” Prince Deacon said.
“After that? Are you just going to stay here forever? Let her grow old?” Wynn asked.
“I am going to grow old with her,” Prince Deacon said.
“And then what?” Wynn asked.
“Then I will do what all old people do; die. I just hope that I will go before her as I cannot bear to be without her,” Prince Deacon said, staring in front of him.
“You cannot be serious? The council will catch up with you before long,” Wynn said, half laughing.
“Once I marry Emily, I am moving away from here. No one will ever find us,” Prince Deacon said, very sure of himself.
“I don’t see you hiding from the council forever, but don’t let me be the one to ruin your hopes and dreams,” Wynn said as he made his way up the stairs to get ready for dinner.
“Need help to get dressed?” Benjamin asked.
“Yes, sure, why not,” Wynn agreed.
“I hate seeing her on another man’s arm,” Prince Deacon said, standing at the living room window, watching Emily on Eliot’s arm, walking over for dinner.
“You know she is just trying to put you off because Princess Freda and Princess Bently are making her,” Wynn said, joining him at the window.
“If you find a moment alone with Eliot, will you put him off, Emily?” Prince Deacon asked him to compel Eliot away.
“I can compel him to enlist in the army. I know it might not seem like it, but there is a war going on and right now they are leaving it up to volunteers,” Wynn suggested.
“He is to young. I know I want him out of the way, but I don’t approve of young men throwing their lives away in the war. Just to think about the countless young people that lost their lives in the Supernatural war,” Prince Deacon said, hoping it won’t come to that.
“They might have looked young, but you know as well as I do that most of them were not young, not young at all,” Wynn reminded him.
“The children?” Prince Deacon thought about his own nieces and nephews that died.
“Please accept my apologies. I had no right,” Wynn said.
Benjamin opened the door before Eliot could use the knocker to knock.
Benjamin took their coats and walked them to the living room.
“I see you changed the door knocker. Where did you get it made?” Eliot asked, wondering how they managed it on such short notice.
“The wolf's head knocker has been passed down from generation to generation. I brought it with me from another residence,” Prince Deacon said. Wynn thought it a good idea to remove it from the abandoned castle, since it will just get destroyed by some bomb, sooner or later.
Benjamin returned shortly with drinks before dinner.
“How did you manage to furnish the whole place in just one day?” Eliot asked, looking around.
“As I said, I brought it from another residence,” Prince Deacon said, taking a glass from the tray.
“Emily, you look lovely tonight,” Prince Deacon whispered into her ear, admiring her long sheer fabric sleeves flowing off her blush pink dress. Her hair was neatly turned up.
“Thank you,” Emily said, blushing.
“You should wear your hair down,” he whispered again.
“I thought you just said that I look lovely, yet you suggest I should wear my hair down?” Emily questions.
“You do look lovely,” Prince Deacon said and was about to say more, but she interrupted him.
“It is really out of fashion for a lady to wear her hair down these days,” Emily said, before taking a sip of her drink.
“Dinner is served,” Benjamin said.
“Shall we?” Prince Deacon said with a show of hand for his guest to walk through to the dining room.
‘How is it that she is his fated mate?’ Princess Freda wondered.
“Where is Lord Wynn?” Eliot asked when he noticed that he was not around.
Princess Freda rolled her eyes, as she knew exactly where he was. ‘I just cannot wrap my head around such a young-looking man doing my mother right now,’ Princess Freda thought to herself with a disgusted look on her face.
“Everything ok Princess Freda?” Prince Deacon mocked as he dished some food into his plate from the serving dish that Benjamin was holding to his left.
“Perfectly fine,” Princess Freda said, snapping out of her thoughts.
“Lord Wynn went for a walk,” Benjamin answered Eliot’s question.
“Lord Eliot, will you be enlisting?” Princess Freda asked, hoping that he says no, knowing if he was out of the way, it will leave Emily open to be courted by Lord Deacon.
“I already have. My training starts in a week from now,” Eliot said.
“You did not tell me,” Emily said, half relieved, thinking she will be free to be courted by the handsome Lord Deacon. ‘Well, if I can find another equally handsome and rich lord or prince for Princess Freda.’
“I would like to speak to you after dinner,” Eliot said, smiling at Emily. ‘Hopefully, me enlisting would prove to her that I am a worthy man. I just hope I survive the war,’ Eliot thought to himself.
“Of course,” Emily said, smiling, finding Prince Deacon’s eyes on her.
Princess Freda noticed Prince Deacon’s eyes on Emily and wished for them to be on her instead.
After dinner, while they all had a nightcap in the drawing room, Princess Freda took the opportunity to speak to Lord Eliot. “If I may give advice; propose marriage to Emily. You can get married before you leave for war.”
“You really think it is possible to plan a wedding within a week?” Eliot asked, excited by the idea.
“I will make all the arrangements and think about it. You might even leave an heir behind on your wedding night,” Princess Freda teased.
“I think you are right,” Lord Eliot said.
“Do it now,” Princess Freda said before walking over to Emily.
“I have an announcement to make, well, more of a question to ask,” Lord Eliot said, bringing everyone’s attention to himself.
Princess Freda smiled inwardly, knowing Emily won’t reject him.
“On with it already,” Wynn said as he walked back into the living room, slightly out of breath.
“Miss Emily, would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” Lord Eliot asked, walking over and getting down on one knee, taking her hands.
Emily looked uncomfortable and did not know how to respond.
“Say yes,” Princess Freda encouraged with a whisper and a smile.
“Proposing without a ring is hardly the way to go about it. Emily, don’t you agree? Tell the truth,” Prince Deacon commanded.
“Yes,” Emily meant it in agreement with Prince Deacon, but Lord Eliot and Princess Freda took it as a ‘yes,’ to his proposal.
“Wonderful, we will have you two married before the end of the week,” Princess Freda said.
“I meant,” Emily choked, but Princess Freda spoke over her.
“I am so happy for you,” Princess Freda said and wanted to say more, but Wynn grabbed her by her arm and pulled her away.
“What are you doing? We told you that she is Prince Deacon’s fated mate,” Wynn said, filled with anger.
“Prince Deacon?” Princess Freda asked.
“Yes, he is a prince of the Supernatural world,” Wynn said, regretting his slip of words.
“You ladies should retire for the night while we men celebrate,” Prince Deacon said, hiding his anger.
“I should go as well,” Lord Eliot said.
“No, you will stay and celebrate with us,” Wynn compelled him.
Prince Deacon grabbed the two ladies and forcefully walked them out of the house. “Good night.”
Princess Freda still wanted to protest, but the door got shut in her face.
“What am I going to do? I really don’t want to marry Lord Eliot,” Emily said as they walk over to Princess Freda’s residence.
“Then why did you say yes?” Princess Freda asked.
“I meant, ‘yes,’ to Lord Deacon, not to the marriage proposal,” Emily said, slightly frustrated.
“Who else is going to marry you if not, Lord Eliot?” Princess Freda asked sarcastically.
“Lord Deacon,” Emily said.
“Lord Deacon? Are you really going to betray me like this?” Princess Freda asked with a warning.
“But he does not want you,” Emily stated carefully.
“We only met them today and you are ready to marry him?” Princess Freda asked, coming to a halt at her front door.
“I can ask you the same,” Emily said before turning on her heel to leave.
Princess Freda could feel the anger raging in her and went inside her house before she explodes.
Emily went into her own house and sat at her bedroom window that was facing the back of the mansion and not the street.
Lord Eliot felt a bit out of place with Wynn and Prince Deacon standing aside, talking and looking over at him every now and then.
Wynn showed Benjamin with his eyes to keep Lord Eliot entertained.
“What do you want me to do?” Wynn asked.
“Compel him to leave right away. Compel him to retract his proposal. Compel him to not be in love with Emily,” Prince Deacon suggested, one compelling after the other.
