Chapter 193

For the past month, he has been trying to lift the enchantress spell from prince Mano’s mind but with no success. Shaman Khelben might have been around for a few hundred years and knew all about the royals and the council, but he does not know what they look like, therefore he does not know who prince Mano was. Shaman Khelben and his family are also not involved with the supernatural world and that was why they are such an easy target because they don’t have the protection of the higher council. Because no one from their pack attends council meetings they don’t know yet that there are such vampires as prehistoric. Since no prehistoric vampires have actually escaped from the ice beside king Thorvald about a thousand years ago, his pack had no way of knowing that hybrids are not the only ones that can exist in daylight.
“Maybe she is a hybrid. Yesterday I practiced some of the spells and a few of the nuns mocked me so when they came closer, I pretended to put a spell on them to scare them, but it was only the hymn that undoes the vampire compelling,” Prince Mano explained.
“Shh,” Shaman Khelben looked out of the made-shift window.
“What if she was compelled to not know what she is and I undid it?” Prince Mano ignored him.
“A vampire can not be compelled,” Shaman Khelben explained, passing prince Mano one wrapped leather bag.
“Let’s go,” Shaman Khelben said, walking towards the back of the shed.
“No, I am going to stay here, Gina needs me,” Prince Mano explained.
“Shoot yourself,” Shaman Khleben said, removing the bulk that was keeping the door shut.
“Wait, undo the spell so that Gina can come in,” Prince Mano asked.
“You will put yourself in danger,” Shaman Khelben ignored his request.
After shaman Khelben left prince Mano started to doubt his decision, looking out of the window, it was completely dark. After drawing courage, he went outside, “Gina,” he whispered loudly.
“Gina,” he called out in a low voice, walking to the gate but not stepping through it.
Prince Mano stepped out of the gate but holds his one hand still on the gate, “Gina!”
Gina comes out of her hiding spot behind a bush, “sorry, I got scared.”
Prince Manor steppes behind the line of the gate, to where he knew the invisible spell wall is.
“You spent a whole day with me and now you are scared of me?” Gina asked.
“I am not scared,” Prince Mano said, not sure if he was trying to convince her or himself.
“Then why are you on that side of the gate?” Gina asked.
“Why are you trying to lure me out?” Prince Mano asked, hesitant.
“Why would I want to do that? If I was to mean you harm, then won't I have done it during the day?” Gina asked.
“Maybe you are the enchantress,” Prince Mano questioned.
“Does your shaman spell keep enchantresses out as well?” Gina asked.
“No, it only keeps out beings that have drunk the blood of a human while still alive,” Prince Mano informed her.
“Can an enchantress be a vampire?” Gina asked, hoping not, as she needed to prove to the only person she knows, that she was not out to get him.
“No. They have tried though but the moment they become a vampire they lose their enchanting abilities. It kills their bloodline; or so I understand,” Prince Mano said, realizing that Gina cannot be the enchantress, playing a trick on him.
“I will just be here, outside,” Gina said, smiling, not sure what else she could do since she can not get past the gate.
“I will sleep outside with you and tomorrow we can build a little shack next to the shed, over there,” Prince Mano pointed out.
“You don’t have to; I am sure I will be fine. I can be the lookout,” Gina said, not tired at all.
“I am actually starved so perhaps you can help me hunt since you ruined it for me this morning,” Prince Mano said, stepping through the gate.
“Never mind ruin it, you almost became my food,” Ginna laughed.
Prince Mano laughed back nervously.
“You wait here,” Gina said before prince Mano could shift and before he could stop her, she was already back with a rabbit, still alive, holding it out to prince Mano.
“Thank you,” he said, wondering why she didn’t just kill it.
Prince Mano took out his knife and slit the rabbit’s throat, making Gina flinch. ‘One would think after all the nuns I killed this morning and the small animals I have drunk from that I will be used to it,’ Gina thought to herself.
“You didn’t seem squeamish this morning when you tried to kill me,” Prince Mano said.
Gina placed her hand on her nose to stop herself from feeling enticed by the blood, “When I am in the moment I am overtaken by blood lust.”
Prince Mano left the rabbit on the grass and walked inside to gather a few tools to prepare it outside.
“Have you ever prepared a rabbit before?” he asked, walking through the gate with a few things.
“No, well in the kitchen when it was already skinned and divided,” Gina explained.
“Can you make an outdoor fire?” Prince Mano asked, doubting it.
“I can prepare the stove,” Gina laughed, watching prince Mano arrange a few stones and a spit to turn the rabbit on.
Prince Mano showed her how to get a fire going and how to skin the rabbit even though he thought she probably don’t need to know these things since she was possibly some sort of vampire.
After cooking the meat prince Mano started to eat without offering her.
“I guess you are not used to other people. Did the enchantress keep you aside from others?” Gina asked wondering, as she took a piece of cooked meat.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t think you eat cooked meat or meat at all,” Prince Mano said, taking out his knife again to help her cut off the meat easier.
“It smells really good, and my mouth is watering and until yesterday I was eating food. Not meat though, only vegetables,” Gina explained before taking a big bite of the meat, “mmm, this is really good,” she said with a mouth full.
Prince Mano was stunt to see her devour the cooked meat, “As far as I know vampires don’t eat cooked meat, they don’t eat at all; they drink blood from humans that are still alive.”
“Petty your friend ran off, it sounded like he had all the answers,” Ginna said, mouthing the chunk of meat and biting a piece off.
“You are really enjoying that,” Prince Mano laughed.
“It is the first time I eat meat,” Gina said with a mouth full.
“Don’t nuns eat meat?” Prince Mano asked.
“They do but for some reason, I was never able to bring myself to eat it,” Gina said before taking another bite.
“My friend said there is a place called the higher council, about a day's walk from here.  We were planning on going there once he decided it is safe to travel,” Prince Mano explained, sharing his plans.
“What were you doing a day’s walk away from there?” Gina wondered.
“Hunting and making sure we have not been followed.  The higher council is that way and we came from that way,” Prince Mano pointed toward the convent.
“You and I should go to this higher council then.  Perhaps we can both get answers,” Gina said, sitting closer to the fire.
“If you are a vampire then you are the strongest one I have ever heard of,” Prince Mano laughed at the idea of a vampire so close to a fire.
“What do you mean by that?” Gina asked, looking at him, the fire dancing in her blue eyes and on her blond hair, making it appear the same color as prince Mano's hair.
“Vampires don’t get cold, so they do not need to warm themselves, especially using a fire,” Prince Mano looked at her, finding her attractive.
“Tell me more about vampires,” Ginna asked, interested, wanting to compare herself.
“Well, they can not be compelled by one another, they definitely can not drink from lycan, or any other animal for that matter and they cannot be out in the sun,” Prince Mano listed a few things.
“Is that it?” Gina wondered.
“Silver, garlic, and crosses don’t have any effect on them and neither does a stake to the heart since they don’t have a heart,” Prince Mano continued.
“I definitely have a heart! After moving fast, I can feel it pounding in my ears, listen!” Gina jumped up and in a blink of an eye kneeled in front of prince Mano, pressing his head against her chest.
“You definitely have a heart,” he said, slowly looking at her, feeling the desire stir inside of him.  Even though he spent every night in the bed of the enchantress, against his will, right that moment it felt like he has never been with a woman.  Prince Mano gulped air and moved away from her.
Gina sat next to him, and turned  to face him, “What else?”
“To create another vampire; humans have to drink a vampire to death, resulting in their hearts turning to ash as the vampire turns to ash,” Prince Mano explained.
“So, if a vampire loses all their blood they die?” Gina confirmed.
“Yes.  Last but not least and probably the most important thing to know about a vampire; they are bound by the promises they make,” Prince Mano said.
“What do you mean?” Gina asked.
