Chapter 100
She was used to the their spats, just shook her head, and plastered on a fake smile, blending in with the rich folks.
Rose had somehow picked up smoking, and nicotine seemed to be her go-to escape from all the drama.
Things were going surprisingly well; Paul led Calliope into the swanky hotel suite.
As soon as they got in, Calliope almost got knocked over. She quickly sidestepped and forced a smile, saying, "Paul, slow down a bit. Let me take a shower first. I have this cleanliness obsession. Just give me a sec, I'll be right out."
With that, she slipped into the bathroom and shut the door fast. No matter how much Paul sweet-talked and coaxed, she wouldn't budge, leaning against the door and taking a deep breath.
"Calliope, you're really something!" Daisy, who had been hiding in the bathroom, saw it all and couldn't help but admire Calliope's guts and smarts. Wasn't she scared of getting caught?
Calliope grinned and said, "If you want to make money, you gotta take risks. Otherwise, you'll just have to go home and put on with your mom."
They exchanged a knowing look. Calliope would leave the bathroom first. When the lights went out, Daisy would take her place.
After a long wait, Calliope came out of the bathroom, wearing a robe and looking calm.
Paul lunged at her like a starving wolf, but Calliope had the room's light remote. With a press of a button, the room went pitch black, making it hard to see anything.
"Why'd you turn off the lights? You into this kind of game, feeling shy?" Paul's true colors showed.
Calliope pretended to be bashful, took a few steps back, and said, "I'm here, come on. These games are only fun in total darkness!"
Paul's laughter got louder as he followed the sound. At that moment, Daisy, also in a robe, was grabbed by Paul and tossed onto the bed. No need to spell out what happened next.
Calliope smirked. With a bit of cleverness, money came easy. She retreated back to the bathroom, feeling at ease.
Listening to the passionate sounds outside, she got goosebumps.
The next morning, Paul woke up to find the bed empty beside him. Feeling satisfied, he got dressed and grabbed a camera from the corner. He had a habit of recording his nights with women to enjoy later.
Calliope's figure and looks were perfect, reminding him of his first love. Though the lights-off moment left him a bit unsatisfied, he quickly shrugged it off. After all, he got what he wanted and could brag about it.
When the money was in her hands, Calliope felt like she was dreaming but knew this wasn't a long-term gig. If her true identity got out, it would cause a lot of trouble. Calliope took some time to cover David's hospital bills. David never asked where the money came from because he didn't care. But really, where else could Calliope get the cash besides the Moore family?
Calliope never talked about where the money came from. When she was with David, she always put on a happy face, hiding her sadness deep down where no one could see.
Her relationship with David was getting more complicated, but Calliope didn't put a stop to it. To her, David's love was a luxury. She could only enjoy his warmth when Lily wasn't around.
But she didn't mind.
After a few gigs, Calliope made $40,000, giving Daisy $10,000. The remaining $30,000 was almost all spent on David.
Daisy was over the moon with the $10,000, hugging Calliope tightly and not wanting to let go. But Calliope's $30,000 was nowhere near enough for David's expenses, and finding a heart donor was even tougher.
Calliope hadn't been back for days, and Sylvester's temper was getting worse, like the demon he used to be was back.
Robert couldn't stand it. He never thought Sylvester from the Moore family would be so thrown off by a woman. He tried to calm him down, "Why are you so worked up? Is it worth it for a woman? You were never like this with Nina. Honestly, I think Calliope's not that simple."
Sylvester's gaze was sharp, showing no emotion.
Robert quickly backed down, feeling uneasy under Sylvester's stare.
"Don't look at me like that," Robert said, showing weakness. Even though he had been a playboy, he still couldn't compare to Sylvester.
Sylvester shifted his gaze from the stock market to Robert, his eyes cold. "What are you trying to say?"
Robert cleared his throat. "Last time, I saw her chatting happily with a prostitute. I think her relationship with that woman is unusual."
Sylvester thought for a moment, then looked up, smirking at Robert. "What were you doing there?"
Robert tried to cover up. "The sunshine is really nice today."
Sylvester let out a cold laugh. "Your imagination impresses me. In this continuous rainy weather, you saw the sun."
Robert was super embarrassed and finally gave in under Sylvester's gaze. "Alright, I went there, but men have normal needs. I'm not like you with a family."
Robert's eyes twinkled as he suggested, "How about we go together? There are a few good-looking women there. I heard a new beauty just arrived."
Sylvester looked disdainful. "The people I used to hang out with were of a different caliber. Now you want me to mingle with those common women?"
Robert smiled apologetically. "Of course, you have Nina and Calliope, no need to worry. But pity us poor bachelors."
Sylvester gave a warning look, and Robert quickly fled the office. If he had been a moment later, he might have been punished.
Sylvester sighed. He didn't know how to define his relationship with Nina. Besides, Calliope was giving him the cold shoulder. Life was indeed a tangled mess.
