Chapter 83
Sylvester suddenly chuckled, sounding all laid-back. "Just checking if you remembered the rule. Guess you didn't."
Calliope felt a bit exasperated; Sylvester could be such a kid sometimes.
"Alright, fine. From now on, I'm not picking up your calls. Bye." She was about to hang up when Sylvester, like he could read her mind, warned, "Hang up on me, and see what happens when I get back!"
Calliope wasn't scared of him but paused. "Punish me? Then I'll make sure to take extra good care of your precious baby!"
"You wouldn't dare!" Sylvester's voice raised.
"Try me!"
Ava, watching the couple bicker over the phone, couldn't help but giggle. Everyone in the Moore family thought Sylvester and Calliope were perfect for each other. Only Calliope could handle Sylvester's wild side; everyone else was at his mercy.
Tom had been waiting at home for days, expecting some cash to come through, only to see that mess on the morning news, leaving him stunned!
He suddenly remembered that the place he went to that day was the Moore family's company? That fancy mansion was actually theirs?
Tom muttered to himself, "Calliope, you hooked up with Sylvester from the Moore family! No wonder you didn't want me to say I'm your dad! So, you think I'm embarrassing? Calliope!"
Staring at Calliope's photo on the screen, Tom was both shocked and thrilled. Wasn't this hitting the jackpot? The Moore family was loaded!
Thinking of this, Tom laughed out loud. This little brat really got lucky! With this, he could mooch off her forever, as long as she stayed as the glamorous Mrs. Moore.
He then thought, 'So the guy he saw last time was Sylvester, the heir to the Moore family and Faith's son?'
With these thoughts, Tom's face twisted with resentment. He grabbed the bottle on the table and smashed it to the ground, cursing, "Damn it! You're living the high life while David and I are struggling! You deserve to die!"
No one knew what kind of history this thug Tom had with the Moore family, or what story he had with Sylvester's mom.
The sound of the bottle breaking startled Rose. She walked out of the room, shouting, "What are you smashing so early in the morning? Can I get some peace? I worked all night!"
Rose, with her messy hair, walked out and was eventually drawn to the TV, her annoyance turning to shock, then exclaiming, "Oh my God, is that really my daughter?"
Hearing the anchor mention Calliope, Rose thought she misheard and laughed. "We've made it! Calliope really did well. I thought she didn't take after me, but she managed to climb up to such a big wealthy family! She really takes after me!"
Back in the day, she had also used her looks to mess around with Jack. Now her daughter had hooked up with the Moore family, the heir to the famous Winner Group.
"But I heard Sylvester's not doing well, he's sick. If he acknowledges Calliope as his wife, won't she get a huge inheritance when he dies?" Rose's mind immediately went to money, as usual.
Tom cut into her daydream. "You go tell Calliope, if she doesn't give me money, I'll spill everything to Sylvester! I've got dirt on her now!"
Money? Rose remembered the check Calliope handed her in the hotel lobby that day. So Tom already knew and went to threaten Calliope?
"You think you'll get money after you snitch? If you expose her, you won't get a dime!" Rose decided to side with Calliope this time; such luck was a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
"She'll give me money if she wants to keep her spot as Mrs. Moore. Don't act all high and mighty; she's just a commoner at heart! If she doesn't pay up, I'll let the whole world know!" Tom's face twisted with greed, ready to do anything for cash.
Hearing this, Rose rushed forward and slapped him hard. "What's wrong with being a commoner? My daughter can sleep with Sylvester, can you? How dare you look down on me? Tom, if it weren't for me supporting you all these years, would you be where you are today? Without my daughter, could you have escaped being maimed time and again?"
"You crazy woman! I can live without you! I still have my son!" Tom slapped back. This house was always filled with arguments. No, it wasn't a home, just a shelter for a few down-and-out people.
Rose grabbed a bottle and smashed it. "So what if you have a son? Didn't he finish college because I went out with men?"
At the Moore manor, Calliope felt like a princess in a fairy tale. Even small tasks like fetching water were forbidden for her to do herself. The child in her belly was really lucky, enjoying such honor before even being born. Once born, it would probably become another domineering Sylvester!
She lazily leaned on the bed, constantly switching channels with the remote, her face showing utter boredom.
Suddenly, Jenny rushed into the room, heading straight for a corner to search for something. Calliope curiously asked, "Jenny, what are you looking for?"
"Mr. Moore has a headache, and the company medicine cabinet is empty. Robert is waiting downstairs." Jenny quickly found the medicine box and was about to leave.
Calliope thought for a moment, jumped off the bed, and called out to Jenny. "Wait, is his headache severe? Give me the medicine, I'll take it to him."
Jenny looked troubled. "Mrs. Moore, you're pregnant, you shouldn't move around too much, in case of an accident."
"Pregnant women also need moderate exercise! Staying cooped up at home all day is bad for health. If I don't move around now, the baby might be in the wrong position, making labor difficult. That would be a lot of suffering!" Calliope thought about the opportunity to escape, hoping for a seamless chance to make the child's departure look like an accident.
No matter the outcome, this child must not be born!
