Chapter 87
Samuel just smiled, not saying a word. After fastening the chain, he stood up slowly and let out a soft sigh. "We've known each other for a long time."
'Have we really known each other that long?' Calliope was even more confused. She furrowed her brows and stared at him.
Just like the name Maggie, she always felt like she'd heard it somewhere but couldn't place it.
Was there something wrong with her mind?
She looked at the bracelet on her wrist. The texture and intricate design were definitely valuable. Why would he give her such a precious gift? When she looked up to ask, Samuel was gone, and the long corridor was empty.
Everything felt like a dream. Calliope instinctively touched her forehead. Was she sick? Samuel was definitely here. She looked at her wrist again to confirm.
The pearl bracelet was still there, proving it wasn't an illusion.
Just then, Jenny came back with a bottle of water.
"Mrs. Moore, here's the water. Let me open it for you." Jenny twisted off the cap and handed it to her. Calliope took it and gulped it down without thinking.
"Slow down, no one's going to take it from you!" Jenny said, concerned.
Calliope's thoughts were all over the place, with only the name Samuel in her mind. Who was this guy?
"Mrs. Moore, when did you get a new bracelet?" Jenny noticed the bracelet too. Calliope suddenly grabbed Jenny's hand. "Jenny, did you see a handsome guy just now, about six feet tall, wearing a white shirt?"
Jenny shook her head, confused. "No, I only saw you sitting here alone the whole time, no one else."
Didn't see him?
Calliope suddenly felt a wave of panic, clutching her chest, her heart pounding. Could it be a ghost?
"Jenny, have you ever heard the name Samuel?"
"No, I haven't. Who is he?" Jenny was still puzzled.
The situation was getting weirder. Calliope thought, 'Samuel! Samuel! Who are you?'
"Who the hell are you?" The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. She slapped her own head hard, and Jenny quickly grabbed her. "What are you doing?"
At that moment, the door to the emergency room finally opened, and the doctor walked out, removing his mask.
Calliope set aside her doubts and walked towards the doctor. "Doctor, how is David?"
"He's temporarily out of danger, but his condition is still severe. He needs to be hospitalized for treatment as soon as possible. Otherwise, he could relapse at any time. If no one finds him and he doesn't get to the hospital within half an hour, it will be too late," the doctor said frankly.
Calliope's body stiffened. It was that serious.
After arranging for David's hospitalization, Calliope was sent back to the Moore manor. She was preoccupied the entire way.
She thought, 'Who was this Samuel? Did I really know him? If not, how would I know his name?'
"Samuel," she muttered the name in the car, full of doubts.
The doctor suggested a heart transplant for David; otherwise, he wouldn't have much time left. But finding a matching heart was tough, and the surgery costs were another headache.
Calliope felt a splitting headache.
Her phone rang, and she answered impatiently, "Hello? Speak."
"Calliope, you bitch! What did you do to David? He's in this condition, and you just left him alone in the hospital!" On the other end, Tom was cursing non-stop, his voice harsh and grating.
Calliope moved the phone away and let him rant, then coldly responded, "If you curse one more time, I really won't care anymore."
Tom immediately quieted down but still complained, "You dare! What right do you have to not care? This is all because of you and now you want to run away? Just because you became Mrs. Moore of the Moore Family, you're getting carried away? Don't forget, without me, you wouldn't be where you are today."
His words were making Calliope extremely impatient. She directly said, "I won't leave David alone, but you, stay away," and then hung up, angrily looking out the window.
Back at the Moore manor, Jenny followed closely behind, looking at Calliope's lost and dejected appearance, feeling puzzled. As for the bracelet that appeared out of nowhere, why did it feel so familiar?
Jenny pondered, 'Where had I seen it before?' Perhaps it was due to aging, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't recall the origin of the bracelet.
At this moment, Lucas, whom she hadn't seen for a week, approached. Calliope's steps unconsciously slowed down, and Lucas also stopped in front of her.
"Are you pregnant?" Although phrased as a question, it carried a tone of certainty. Lucas had already seen the test results and was sure of it.
Calliope's tone was cold. "Yes." She was about to walk past Lucas, but he grabbed her wrist, his deep voice whispering in her ear, "If possible, you should get rid of it. You can't keep this child."
She frowned at Lucas. Her child, she could choose not to have it, but how could others have the right to ask her to give up this life?
Calliope's face was full of stubbornness. She pulled her hand away and looked at him resolutely. "Who are you to tell me what to do? Why should I give up my child? If I tell John what you said, what do you think he will do?"
"Don't be ungrateful! I'm doing this for your own good! Also, you might have delusional disorder. You should seek help from a psychologist as soon as possible." Lucas didn't want to see Calliope suffer in the future. Nina would never let it go, and the entanglement between the three of them was destined to be long.
"You're the one with the problem! Take care of your own girlfriend. I have nothing to do with you! Say it again and we're done!" With that, Calliope left without looking back. She hated ambiguous relationships between men and women the most.
