Chapter 107
Lucas grinned slowly, acting like he didn't notice Calliope's irritation. "I'm just looking out for you. If Sylvester finds out about this guy, he might freak out. You should stop seeing him."
Calliope scoffed. "Are you threatening me?"
Lucas shrugged. "I'm not threatening you, and I won't tell Sylvester. I'm genuinely concerned about you."
Calliope raised her hand to cut him off. "Enough, I get it. Every time you say it's for my own good, but have you ever asked if I want it? You meddle when I'm pregnant and when I pay someone's medical bills. What exactly is our relationship?"
Lucas's smile turned awkward. He didn't understand why he cared so much about Calliope's business, but he couldn't help himself.
"Sorry." Lucas's face darkened as he said this. He really had no real connection with Calliope.
Calliope realized she had been too emotional. Whenever it involved David, she couldn't stay calm. She shot Lucas a cold glance and turned to leave.
As she walked away, she wondered why Lucas was acting so weird today. She shook her head, telling herself not to worry about such trivial stuff. Lucas's stuff had nothing to do with her.
Just outside the hospital, she saw a bunch of bodyguards standing around, like they were waiting for someone important.
She couldn't help but smile bitterly at her unborn child. If it weren't for the pregnancy, the Moore family probably wouldn't even pay her any attention, let alone send so many bodyguards to escort her.
Jenny was also waiting outside. Initially, Calliope didn't want Jenny to follow her because she wanted to visit David. She knew David would feel lonely in the hospital by himself. Unexpectedly, she overheard a conversation between David and Tom, but she still didn't get what they meant.
"Mrs. Moore, you're finally out. What did the doctor say?" Jenny rushed to support Calliope.
Calliope felt a bit uncomfortable with such treatment and gently pushed Jenny's hand away, saying awkwardly, "Jenny, I've never enjoyed such treatment in my life. I'm not used to it. The doctor said the baby is very healthy."
Earlier at the hospital, the doctor didn't know that Calliope was Mrs. Moore of the Moore family and asked, seeing her alone, "Where's your husband? Doesn't he know that pregnant women need the most care?"
Calliope's answer was shocking. "My husband has passed away."
The doctor's hand, holding a clipboard, trembled slightly, and his eyes filled with sympathy and pity. He sighed inwardly, feeling sorry for her, and gave her extra care during the subsequent check-ups. This sympathy continued until the check-up was over.
If Sylvester knew he was already "dead" in Calliope's words, he would probably lose it and want to strangle her. Thinking of this, Calliope couldn't help but laugh. Jenny looked at the laughing Calliope in confusion. "Mrs. Moore, what's so funny?"
Calliope waved her hand. "Nothing, I just saw someone bringing a pet to see the doctor. I thought it was funny."
Jenny shook her head and thought, 'What's so funny about this? Has Calliope's sense of humor gotten worse since she got pregnant?' Jenny looked up at the sky and tugged at Calliope's sleeve. "Mrs. Moore, it's getting late. We should go back."
Calliope nodded lightly, her gaze unintentionally sliding to the side, where she saw people taking off their coats, pulling out cameras from their bags, and some even rushing out from hiding places, all holding cameras and microphones, surrounding her.
The sudden appearance of reporters caught Jenny and the bodyguards off guard. The bodyguards quickly formed a human wall, but they were too few to fend off the swarm of reporters. These people were doing everything they could to get the headline.
Microphones pointed at Calliope's lips, and the questions were all over the place. "Mrs. Moore, what is your response to the X incident? Was posting that message intended to facilitate a divorce?"
Almost every reporter was asking about this. Calliope could only protect her swollen belly, but then she thought, 'I've been wanting to get rid of this kid, so why not take this chance?'
She boldly stepped forward, letting the crowd push her. But with the bodyguards' tight protection and Jenny supporting her, it was hard for her to fall.
"Stop asking, everyone. Do you think I'm that stupid to post something to stir up trouble? Everyone knows who benefits from this, and it does me no good. Why would I do it? I can't even log into the X account now!" Frustrated, Calliope said, which only made the reporters push harder.
