Chapter 88

Lucas's heart was all over the place again. He thought, 'Liking someone should be simple, right? You either like them or you don't. Why did it have to get so messy?' But in today's world, even the simplest things get complicated.

Watching her walk away, Lucas sighed to himself. When would this drama end? Why was everyone so obsessed with Sylvester? Even though they knew it would hurt, they still jumped in like moths to a flame.

Back in the bedroom, Calliope was pacing like crazy.

Lucas actually said she was imagining things? The weird part was, why did she feel so guilty? Thinking about Samuel in the hospital, was it really all in her head?

She looked at the pearl bracelet on her wrist and felt a bit better. It couldn't be. Otherwise, this bracelet would be a gift from a ghost. But it was real!

Calliope felt like her mind was a mess, like she was dreaming. But looking around, this was definitely the real world.

Samuel? Who was this guy? She'd never met him, but the name rang a bell.

"Mrs. Moore, are you okay? Sit down and take a break, you've been pacing for over half an hour!" Ava, who was watching from the side, was tired just from looking, let alone Calliope, who was pregnant.

Just as Calliope was about to sit down, Jenny walked in. "Mrs. Moore, Mr. John Moore had the chef make some soup for you. Go have some, it's good for you."

When everyone found out Calliope was pregnant, no one was happier than John.

Jenny and Ava helped Calliope to her seat. She chuckled and said, "Thanks, Dad."

"No need to thank me, drink it while it's hot, it's good for you. You need to take good care of this baby!" John said, looking at her belly. Calliope was so thin; after a month, there was no visible change.

Jenny brought a bowl of soup. Calliope nodded and was about to take a sip when a deep voice came from behind. "What kind of soup is it? Let me taste it first, just in case it's poison."

The warm dining room got a bit chaotic with Sylvester's arrival. John looked annoyed but didn't say anything. He was used to it; this was his son. If it were anyone else, they might have gotten an earful.

A fresh mint scent filled the air, and then Sylvester leaned down close to her ear, smoothly scooping a spoonful of soup to taste. He nodded. "No poison, my dear, go ahead."

The close proximity made Calliope a bit embarrassed. She smiled at John and said, "He's just being silly."

"You have some too." Calliope pulled him to sit down.

Sylvester grinned mischievously. He loosened his tie, took off his suit jacket, and casually tossed it to Ava, who caught it without missing a beat, clearly used to this.

Calliope reluctantly picked up her spoon, but then she noticed both John and Sylvester staring at her wrist, their eyes locked on the bracelet. Their expressions were a mix of confusion and something else she couldn't quite place.

Feeling weird under their intense gaze, Calliope looked at them, puzzled. "What's up with you two? Why are you staring at me like that?"

Sylvester's eyes narrowed when he saw the bracelet. He frowned, his lips tightening, and suddenly grabbed her wrist. "Where did you get this?" he demanded coldly.

"Ow, you're hurting me! What's your problem?" Calliope winced as his grip tightened.

John was just as freaked out, dropping his spoon with a clatter. His voice shook. "Calliope, where did you get that bracelet? Who gave it to you?"

Calliope hesitated, not wanting to mention taking David to the hospital, so she fibbed. "A guy named Samuel gave it to me. I don't know who he is."

Without a second thought, Sylvester ripped the bracelet off her wrist and threw it to the ground. "Jenny, get rid of this. I don't want to see it again!"

Jenny's eyes widened in realization. She quickly picked up the bracelet, nodding frantically. "Yes, I'll get rid of it right away!"

"Samuel?" John muttered, deep in thought. He'd never heard of this guy. Who could he be?

"What are you doing? That was a gift! What right do you have to throw it away?" Calliope's anger flared. It was just a bracelet, why make such a big deal out of it?

Sylvester's tone turned icy. "Do you think you're some charity case? You're my wife! You don't need gifts from other men. I'm warning you, from now on, you don't accept anything from anyone! Got it?"

With that, he kicked the chair behind him and stormed out of the dining room, his back radiating anger.

John, looking just as upset, left the table without a word.

Just then, Jenny came back into the dining room. Seeing that John and Sylvester were gone, she looked at Calliope with concern. "Mrs. Moore, it's best if you stay in for the next few days. It's not safe outside."

"Sylvester is out of his mind! It's just a bracelet! Why make such a big deal out of it?" Calliope fumed, clueless about the bracelet's significance.

Jenny glanced around to make sure no one was listening, then whispered in Calliope's ear, "Mrs. Moore, that bracelet isn't just any bracelet. Mr. Moore has his reasons. Some really strange things happened before."

Ava leaned in, curious. "Jenny, what's the deal with that bracelet? I've heard the Moore family had some weird stuff go down a few years ago, but they never talk about it. Spill the tea!"
