Chapter 81

Calliope slowly came to, blinking against the afternoon sunlight streaming in.

As she looked around, she saw Jenny snoozing next to the sofa. Her throat felt like sandpaper, but she couldn't get a word out.

She managed a small cough, and Jenny jolted awake. Seeing Calliope's eyes open, Jenny rushed over. "Mrs. Moore, you're awake! You scared the heck out of me! I'll go get Mr. Moore; he was just chewing us out for not taking better care of you!"

Calliope tried to sit up, but Jenny quickly stopped her, treating her like she was made of glass. "Hold on, let me help you." She gently placed a cushion behind Calliope's back.

"Can you get me some water? I'm parched." Her voice came out raspy.

Jenny spun around, grabbed a glass of water from the bar, and handed it to her. "Sip it slowly, don't gulp. You need to be careful now."

Jenny's beaming smile made Calliope feel oddly uneasy.

"Why am I suddenly getting the royal treatment?" Calliope was confused, having no clue what had happened after she passed out. She thought she had just taken a quick nap.

Jenny sighed. "You have no idea! After you fainted, we rushed you to the hospital. They found out you're a month pregnant!"

The glass slipped from Calliope's hand and shattered on the floor. The news of her pregnancy echoed in her mind like a broken record.

She grabbed Jenny's hand tightly. "What? I'm a month pregnant? How is that even possible? I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor said there were no signs of pregnancy!"

This couldn't be happening! The doctor had clearly told her she wasn't pregnant!

Jenny shrugged. "I don't know either, but the test report says you're about four weeks along. Maybe it was too early to detect before?"

Calliope's head felt like it was going to explode. What was she supposed to do now?

Her hand instinctively moved to her flat stomach. There was already a life growing there? And it was Sylvester's child.

Just then, Ava gently pushed the door open, carrying a tray with a steaming bowl of chicken soup, her face lit up with joy. "Calliope, this is incredible! You're really pregnant! Mr. John Moore and Mr. Michael Moore are over the moon!"

So, everyone knew? This just made everything even more complicated.

"By the way, Mr. Moore made this chicken soup just for you. It's the first time I've seen him so thoughtful!" Ava's face was full of envy, making Calliope feel a bit ironic. "He made chicken soup himself?"

Ava smiled awkwardly. "Well, he supervised it personally. He's been pampered since he was a kid, so it's a big deal that he even stepped into the kitchen."

But Calliope didn't want this child! A child with Sylvester—what would that mean for her life?

"That piece of land must be acquired, no matter what it takes." Sylvester walked into the room, talking on the phone, his tone icy.

Jenny and Ava quickly bowed and left the room when they saw him.

Calliope was still reeling from the shock of her pregnancy, trying to figure out how to handle this unexpected situation.

Sylvester hung up the phone, tossed it onto a nearby lounge chair, and walked up to her, a smile tugging at his lips. The usual arrogance in his demeanor was softened by the prospect of becoming a father.

"You're pregnant, why didn't you tell me?" His voice was warm and doting.

Calliope looked up, her eyes firm and serious. "Do you want this child?" This question froze Sylvester's smile for a moment, but he quickly recovered, picked up the bowl of chicken soup, and said in a deep voice, "Why wouldn't I want my child?"

In the study, Michael and John sat together, their expressions grim.

The computer displayed a video, still showing a woman who looked exactly like Zoey, caught on the manor's surveillance footage. What was going on?

"Say something! How are we going to handle this? This is all your doing! You won't be satisfied until you've turned the whole house upside down, will you?" Michael slammed his hand on the table.

The police had been investigating the mysterious female corpse that appeared in the manor. Now, they hadn't found anything but had instead linked Zoey's death two years ago to Sylvester. If the police kept digging, the events of that year would soon be exposed, which would be a scandal for the whole Moore family!

John sat beside him, his hands slowly clenching into fists on his knees, his brows tightly furrowed. "Those idiots at the police station are getting further off track!"

Michael stood up, leaning on his cane, pacing back and forth in the study, and suddenly came to a conclusion. "Looking at all this chaos, I think someone is plotting behind the scenes, but who could it be?"
