Chapter 146
Thinking of Zoey, Samuel's hand involuntarily clenched into a fist, his knuckles turning white. He wished he could rush up and strangle the child in Calliope's belly, but that would be too easy on Sylvester. No, I want him to feel the pain I felt back then, tenfold, a hundredfold!
A fierce light flashed in Samuel's eyes, and his whole being seemed to be enveloped in a cold aura.
Calliope looked at Samuel in front of her, feeling his face gradually blur. She tried hard to open her eyes wide to see who this person really was. Every time she encountered him, Calliope always felt an indescribable sense of confusion, as if her soul had been pulled into another time and space, completely losing herself. She shook her head vigorously, and suddenly a snap of fingers sounded in her ear, bringing her back to reality, but the person who had just been talking to her was gone.
This feeling was too strange. Calliope frowned and rubbed her temples, groggily walking into the banquet hall.
Back by Sylvester's side, Calliope looked pale, causing Sylvester, who was chatting and laughing with others, to worry. "What's wrong? You look so pale." Calliope didn't respond, just stared at Samuel across the room, feeling extremely puzzled: He was just talking to me in the restroom, how is he now chatting and drinking with others? Is there something wrong with my head?
Noticing her distraction, Sylvester lowered his head and looked at her with concern. Seeing no major reaction, he didn't continue to ask.
At this moment, Matthew, sitting nearby, noticed that Calliope's gaze hadn't left Samuel since she returned. He enthusiastically introduced, "It seems you don't know Samuel yet. He's a star psychology lecturer at Liberty Grove University."
Hearing the name, Calliope instantly snapped back to reality. This name always gave her an indescribable feeling. She looked up and found that Samuel's gaze seemed to have a special power, making it impossible for her to look away. "Hello." He smiled slightly at Calliope and extended his hand for a handshake. But at that moment, Calliope instinctively screamed and recoiled, showing extreme fear.
Samuel awkwardly smiled to cover it up, "It's okay, many people react this way when they first meet a psychologist." He then turned and started chatting with other guests.
Calliope felt something was wrong but couldn't pinpoint it, so she avoided the crowd and walked out of the banquet hall to get some fresh air on the balcony. As soon as she stepped onto the balcony, she saw Nina. Not wanting any interaction with her, Calliope prepared to walk in the opposite direction.
Nina, of course, wouldn't let the opportunity slip by and directly confronted her, "Explain what's going on!" Her tone was full of jealousy.
"First, I want some peace; second, we're not close, so please don't bother me." Calliope responded softly and then closed her eyes, unwilling to engage further.
Seeing this, Nina became even more agitated, "Do you think you can still please Sylvester like this? You're heavily pregnant, don't you think it's inappropriate to be by his side?"
"Whether it's appropriate or not doesn't need my explanation; the facts speak for themselves." Calliope continued with her eyes closed, speaking calmly.
This completely enraged Nina, "Hmph! In his eyes, you're just a baby-making machine, and you still think you can keep him? Shameless!"
Calliope stood up and retorted with a cold smile, "At least I'm still his legal wife, while you, you're probably just someone he uses to pass the time." With that, she intended to leave this suffocating place.
Unwilling to let it go, Nina quickly stepped forward to block Calliope, "Who allowed you to leave? I'm not done talking!"
"You have no right to interfere in my affairs!" Calliope turned back, not struggling, just looking seriously at Nina, "And, I think you should know, Sylvester and I are married, you're just a mistress!"
Calliope, feeling troubled, could only use such words to make Nina let go. Unexpectedly, as soon as she finished speaking, a glass of wine was thrown in her face!
Nina splashed the wine on Calliope's face when she was caught off guard.
Instantly, everyone's attention turned to them.
Sylvester also looked over, seeing Calliope covered in red wine, her face and hair in a mess, he hurried over.
Nina quickly grabbed Sylvester and explained, "Sylvester, I didn't mean to, it was an accident."
"Get lost!"
Sylvester didn't even glance at Nina, pulling Calliope to help wipe the wine off her face and hair, while Samuel watched everything from a distance.
This place was unbearable now. Calliope, feeling suffocated, urgently wanted to leave. Despite the embarrassing situation, she calmly said, "I want to go home, it has nothing to do with her."
Such a nonchalant statement made everyone think Calliope was a magnanimous person, while Nina, on the other hand, seemed less so.
On the way back, neither of them spoke a word. Sylvester put his jacket on Calliope, walking ahead while Calliope, with her pregnant belly, walked slowly.
Her mind was still on Samuel at the banquet, the one in the restroom and the one in the hall, were they really the same person? Why was one so gentle and the other so sinister? It felt like an ominous sign, but she couldn't say for sure. Maybe it was all just her imagination? She had experienced similar things before, but nothing strange had happened.
I need to investigate Samuel thoroughly, Calliope thought secretly. Suddenly, she felt a shadow flash by in the corridor, but when she looked again, there was no one there.
Calliope shook her head, wondering if her nerves were really acting up.
