Chapter 166
Calliope was helpless, unable to answer any of Jenny's questions, so she calmly said, "Jenny, look, I'm perfectly fine now. Don't worry, okay?"
Perhaps seeing Calliope's impatience, Jenny didn't continue to ask questions. She just said that she would make sure to keep a close eye on Calliope from now until the baby was born, ensuring nothing else would go wrong.
Meanwhile, Sylvester dragged Mia to the backyard and forcefully pushed her away.
"Sylvester!" Mia lost her balance and fell to the ground, frowning and shouting angrily, "Am I not your sister? How can you be so harsh with me!"
"Tell me, what exactly happened tonight?" Sylvester questioned again, clearly doubting their answers from the bar.
Mia stammered for a long time before reluctantly saying, "Didn't I already tell you at the bar? Those people were harassing me, so Calliope stood up for me."
"When did you become so close with Calliope? I'm really curious about what happened while I was away." Sylvester probed step by step, convinced that things were not that simple.
Seeing Sylvester's relentless questioning, Mia panicked and, unable to explain, started crying.
"Shut up and speak!" Sylvester couldn't stand women crying.
Realizing she couldn't escape, Mia quickly made up an excuse while crying, "Actually, during the days you were away, I would go to the bar every day and come back late. One time, I was even followed home by that man who got stabbed in the thigh. Calliope saw it and threatened to tell you if I continued. I had no choice but to appease her and even gave her my red sports car." Mia thought that since all the photos and videos had been deleted, she had nothing to worry about. By betraying Calliope, she might even get her beloved car back.
"Sports car? You gave it to Calliope?" Sylvester was puzzled, but seeing Mia cry so sadly, he didn't continue to question her.
"Alright, stop crying." Sylvester frowned, pulling Mia up and sternly said, "Don't cause any more trouble outside! And don't take Calliope out with you again, got it?"
Sylvester's voice was severe. Finally believing Mia, she didn't dare to say anything more and obediently complied.
In Calliope's bedroom, after taking a shower, she carefully stretched and thought that Mia's issue was finally resolved, letting out a sigh of relief.
But just as she lay down to sleep, the bedroom door was pushed open. The originally dark room became slightly brighter due to the light from the hallway.
Calliope was startled. She had been terrified by recent paranormal events.
"What? Are you that scared when I come in?" Sylvester said as he turned on the light, looking at Calliope on the bed, her face pale with fright.
"How rude! Why didn't you knock before entering?" Calliope was furious. She was genuinely scared, her heart racing, and the lingering fear hadn't dissipated when Sylvester came in to scare her again.
Sylvester, however, was indifferent. He walked to the bedside, approached Calliope, and said teasingly, "I'm your husband, and you're my wife. Who knocks before entering their own room? Besides, I've seen every part of you. What's there to be shy about?" As he spoke, his gaze traveled down Calliope's nightgown.
"Pervert!" Calliope was enraged and raised her hand to hit Sylvester's face.
"What? Didn't you get enough of hitting people at the bar today?" Sylvester's expression suddenly turned serious as he grabbed Calliope's hand and threw it aside.
Mentioning the bar incident, Calliope immediately felt guilty.
Seeing Calliope's change in expression, Sylvester didn't need to think to know that she was lying about what happened at the bar. He questioned, "What exactly happened in the private room tonight?"
Although he had asked Mia, he wanted to hear Calliope's side to see if their answers matched. If they didn't, there was definitely a problem.
But facing Sylvester's questioning, Calliope gritted her teeth and said, "Mia was being harassed, so I stepped in to help her."
"You stepped in to help her? You're pregnant, and you went to the bar to fight?" Sylvester sneered, looking at Calliope's big belly. Thankfully, their baby was fine. If something had happened, how would Calliope handle it?
Calliope couldn't answer Sylvester's question and chose to remain silent. Since she had promised Mia not to say anything, she couldn't reveal the truth. If she did, not only would Mia not let her off, but the sports car would probably be taken back too.
"What? Why aren't you talking?" Sylvester asked again, raising his voice.
"I already told you. If you don't believe me, what else do you want me to say?" Calliope defended herself again. She was so annoyed with Sylvester. Couldn't he stop asking? Both she and the baby were fine now, so why keep questioning?
Sylvester sneered, seeing Calliope's refusal to speak, and asked again, "So you stepped in to help Mia and got a sports car in return? What do you need a sports car for? To sell it? Do you love money that much?"
