Chapter 171
In the morning, Sylvester instructed Butler to retrieve all the surveillance footage. As soon as Sylvester returned, Butler brought the computer to show him, but Sylvester's attention seemed not fully on the footage.
Reminded by Butler, Sylvester finally reacted and began to watch the surveillance footage carefully.
Sure enough, Calliope didn't find anything suspicious, but Sylvester did.
"What's with this car? Isn't it Lucas's car? Why did it turn around after reaching the gate?" Sylvester paused the video and pointed at the computer, asking.
"I don't know. I only know that later Mrs. Moore talked with Mr. Williams for a while, but I couldn't hear what they were talking about," Butler replied.
Calliope, talking with Lucas?
Then what happened to Calliope? How did she run into Lucas? Sylvester was puzzled and suddenly remembered that he had asked Calliope to deliver a bracelet to the hotel that night. But she was supposed to leave early, so why did she get home more than an hour late?
What happened in between?
"Mr. Moore, Mrs. Moore questioned everyone that day. She suspected that the person who placed the recording device and created shadows on the curtains was someone in the Moore manor, and that person was very familiar with the manor, but she didn't find anything. She also questioned the maids who had been in Mrs. Moore's room, but there were no results," Butler recalled and told Sylvester everything that happened that day.
Could Calliope already have a suspect? But if it's not someone in this villa, who could it be?
Who else knows the Moore manor so well and doesn't want the Moore family to have peaceful days?
Sylvester couldn't think of any suspicious person, so he said to Butler, "Keep a close eye on anyone approaching the villa during this period, but don't make it too obvious. Do it secretly. Also, pay attention to Mrs. Moore's behavior. If there's anything unusual, inform me immediately."
"Okay, I understand," Butler nodded.
"By the way, has the doctor come? What did they say?" Sylvester suddenly remembered Calliope's discomfort.
"The doctor did come, Jenny brought them in. I haven't had a chance to ask about the details, but when I passed by Mrs. Moore's room earlier, I seemed to hear the doctor say something about Mrs. Moore and the baby being in danger," Butler frowned and relayed the fragmented conversation he overheard.
What, danger? How is that possible? Could it be that she was frightened last night?
The next day, in the dining room.
Sylvester went to the company early. When Calliope went down to the dining room, Michael and John were already there having breakfast.
After greeting them, Calliope also sat down.
"I saw the doctor came yesterday. Are you feeling unwell?" John asked, his concern sounding more like completing a task, with a blank expression.
Calliope was used to it and just smiled, "It's nothing, just normal fetal movement. Thank you for your concern."
"That's good. It's almost your due date. You need to take good care of yourself. Let Jenny help you with anything you need," John instructed.
"Yes, I know."
Calliope's response was also mechanical, and John's face showed a slight displeasure.
Just as the conversation ended, they heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Before Calliope could react, Mia rushed in front of her.
Everyone was still in shock when they heard a loud slap.
Mia glared at Calliope fiercely, and everyone was stunned.
"What are you doing?"
John was the first to react, slamming his fork on the table and glaring at Mia. What if she hurt the baby in Calliope's belly?
"Mia, how could you be so rude!" Michael also scolded.
Mia seemed not to hear them, grabbed Calliope, and asked, "Why? You promised me you wouldn't say anything. Why did you go back on your word!"
Hearing this, Calliope sneered inwardly. Sylvester really didn't disappoint her understanding of him; he indeed went to find Mia.
Enduring the pain on her face, she smiled and said, "I don't know what you're talking about." Calliope looked innocent, not crying or making a fuss, remaining extremely calm despite being slapped.
"Stop pretending!"
Mia was furious and raised her hand to slap her again.
Another loud slap was heard, but when Calliope opened her eyes, she saw a red handprint on Mia's face, and John standing beside her.
"Get upstairs now!" John roared at Mia.
Calliope was stunned. She didn't expect John to slap Mia to protect her. It must be because of the baby in her belly. Given John's hatred for Calliope, if it weren't for the baby, he probably wouldn't even blink if Mia beat Calliope to death.
"Calliope, you despicable person, remember this, you will get your comeuppance!" Mia, unable to get Calliope to admit anything, couldn't reveal those matters herself, feeling bitter and angry.
Moreover, John slapped her because of Calliope, making her feel that everyone in the Moore family was now siding with Calliope, filling her with hatred and grievance.
Watching Mia run upstairs, John snorted, glanced at Calliope, and wished the baby in her belly would be born soon so he could make her leave the Moore manor. As long as Calliope stayed in the Moore manor, they would never have peace!
"What exactly happened? Why did Mia hit you?" Seeing Mia crying and running upstairs, looking so aggrieved, Michael asked Calliope with concern.
