Chapter 172

When Michael asked this question, Calliope didn't know what to say. Indeed, she had broken her promise and told Sylvester under his pressure, but she couldn't explain it.

She just smiled and shook her head, saying she didn't know why either.

"You don't know why? Then why was she so agitated?" John was a bit angry, staring at Calliope. He didn't believe a word she said.

Calliope just sneered. No matter what she said, John wouldn't believe her.

"Forget it, if there's nothing else, go upstairs. Have Jenny bring your meal to your room. For the next couple of days, don't come down to eat." Michael waved his hand, seeing Calliope's silence. The house was in chaos, and he didn't want to see Calliope.

Calliope was stunned at first, then smiled. This was good too; she wouldn't have to face them every day. Behind those smiling faces, they probably couldn't wait for her to give birth and leave the Moore manor.

She had seen enough of their hypocrisy.

Jenny and Ava, one carrying the meal and the other supporting Calliope, helped her upstairs.

Jenny sighed. Michael had spoken, and Calliope's position in the Moore family was precarious.

"Mrs. Moore, does your face hurt? Use some ice to reduce the swelling." Ava handed Calliope a towel wrapped with ice.

Calliope didn't take it. Her heart hurt more than her face. She just sat there in a daze.

Jenny sighed, took the towel from Ava, and tried to comfort her, "Mrs. Moore, don't take Mr. John Moore's words to heart. They just don't want you and your baby to be frightened again. It's not that they don't..."

Jenny stopped mid-sentence. Calliope knew what she wanted to say. Yes, they didn't want her to be frightened again.

But that was just a comforting excuse.

"Alright, I'm tired. I want to rest for a while. Take the meal away; I don't want to eat." Calliope took a deep breath and smiled bitterly.

Seeing her in a bad mood, Jenny didn't say much and left with Ava.

Calliope understood clearly. In this house, only Jenny and Ava were genuinely good to her. Everyone else treated her as an enemy. If it weren't for the baby in her belly, they would have humiliated her even more.

And Sylvester hated her to the core. If it weren't for the baby, he would have ended her months ago.

Now, Calliope didn't want to say anything. She just wanted to give birth and leave the Moore manor, leave this heartless place.

Mia went upstairs crying, angrily smashing and throwing things around the room.

Mia was bitter and couldn't express it. She hated Calliope for breaking her promise, making her lose all dignity at home. Sylvester wouldn't treat her well anymore!

John and Michael looked at the mess Mia made in the living room and sighed.

"This house has never been peaceful. As soon as Calliope gives birth, make her leave immediately. Ever since the Moore family got involved with her, nothing good has happened!" Michael ordered. He couldn't stand it anymore.

He had worked hard all his life and wanted to enjoy his old age, but the house had never been peaceful. Since Calliope appeared, the Moore family had been in constant trouble, even threatening his precious grandson's safety. He was extremely dissatisfied with Calliope!

In the evening, Calliope heard Sylvester coming upstairs and stood at the door waiting.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" Sylvester didn't know what had happened and asked casually.

Calliope smiled and questioned, "You promised me you wouldn't tell, so why did you go and trouble Mia?"

"I promised not to tell, but Mia was involved. Letting her know doesn't count as telling, right?" Sylvester sneered, thinking she would ask something else.

"But don't you know how awkward you've made things for me?" Calliope was baffled. Why did Sylvester always find excuses?

Sylvester laughed even more, mocking, "Do you think you wouldn't be awkward without this incident?"

After saying that, Sylvester went back to his room, leaving Calliope standing there, tears welling up in her eyes. What kind of nonsense was Sylvester saying? Clearly, he was in the wrong, but now everything was blamed on her.

When Sylvester came out after changing, he ignored the tearful Calliope and went downstairs.

As he passed the dining room, he grabbed Mia's arm and warned, "If I find out you trouble Calliope again, you'll face the consequences!"

After that, Sylvester let go of Mia's arm and left the Moore manor with a cold face.

Upstairs, Jenny helped Calliope into the room. Seeing Calliope's tear-streaked face, she didn't know how to comfort her and just kept sighing.

This life was unbearable. Calliope thought she had to give birth quickly and leave the Moore manor, even if it meant leaving the baby behind.

The more Calliope thought about it, the more wronged she felt. She had planned many things, but none had succeeded. Why did Sylvester treat her like this? Why did he say such things to her? She was utterly desperate.

After Sylvester's outburst, Mia felt extremely wronged. It was all Calliope's fault. She hated Calliope to the core now.

She wanted to go out to clear her mind, but Sylvester had warned her not to leave the house for a few days. Just then, Nina called to invite her out. She said she couldn't go out and had the driver bring Nina to the house.

When Nina was dating Sylvester, she often came to the house. She and Mia were close friends, sharing everything with each other.

Half an hour later, Nina arrived at the Moore manor and went straight to Mia's room.

"Nina."

As soon as Nina entered, Mia threw herself into Nina's arms.

"What happened? What's wrong?" Nina frowned, seeing Mia's tear-streaked face. She pushed Mia away, helped her sit on the bed, and asked with concern, "What happened? Don't cry, tell me."

Mia cried for a while longer, then wiped her tears and said weakly, "Nina, you should be with Sylvester. I don't want Calliope to be Sylvester's wife. She's so vicious; she doesn't deserve to be Sylvester's wife." As she spoke, Mia started crying again.
