Chapter 91

Just then, a female reporter came up, and her high heel accidentally stomped on Nina's toe. The pain made Nina lose her grip and shove the reporter, smashing the camera in the process.

The reporter was stunned for a moment, then started yelling, "Nina hit me! Look, she's lost it!" She conveniently dropped to the ground, and people started gathering around, some snapping photos, others calling the cops.

Nina couldn't believe it. She'd barely pushed her, and now it was turning into a circus.

When the police showed up, they didn't ask any questions and just took Nina away. The reporter, once she "came to," kept piling on the accusations.

Facing the cops, Nina sneered. "I didn't do it, why should I confess? I want to leave."

The middle-aged cop, a bit on the heavy side, looked at her with disdain. "I'm warning you, if you don't confess, you're not going anywhere."

Nina was fuming. Turns out, the reporter was married to some rich guy, and even the cops were in on it. If she admitted it, she might not get out of this mess; if she didn't, things could get even worse.

She hadn't eaten all day, and the hunger was killing her. Luckily, a young guard handed her a boxed meal, silent but kind.

Even though the world was harsh, there were still good people. She just hoped Sylvester would show up soon; she was about to break.

Nina's story blew up in the media, with hardly anyone supporting her and a flood of insults coming her way.

Her mess started because she got involved in someone else's marriage, falling for Sylvester while being tangled up with others.

Calliope didn't show much emotion about it; she didn't care about Nina's fate. She didn't get why Jenny kept bringing up Nina, like she was hinting at something.

"Jenny, just spit it out," Calliope said casually, munching on some fruit.

Jenny looked exasperated. "Mrs. Moore, I've heard husbands are most likely to cheat when their wives are pregnant. With Nina's situation, she might turn to Mr. Moore for help. If he softens, your position could be shaky."

Calliope saw it as a hassle but didn't mind. If Sylvester kicked her out because of this, she might even consider giving up the baby to get her freedom back. So, in a way, Nina's trouble was a bit of hope for her.

Seeing Calliope still calm, Jenny was worried. This Calliope, who never put on airs, had long won the servants' approval. Compared to Nina's sharpness, Jenny preferred the pure-hearted Calliope.

"Whatever. I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me up at four," Calliope said, stretching and yawning as she headed to her room.

Meanwhile, Sylvester's phone kept buzzing, with Lucas's call among them.

He answered, sounding distracted and cold, "Yeah, what is it?"

"Nina's in jail. Someone's teamed up with the cops and media. Aren't you gonna help her?" Lucas sounded frantic.

"Ridiculous. What does her problem have to do with me?" Sylvester tried to sound indifferent, but he was worried inside.

"You're still pissed about what happened two years ago," Lucas said firmly. He knew Sylvester couldn't stand betrayal.

Sylvester was about to hang up, but Lucas's shout made him pause. "Do you really think she was that heartless? Back then, you were in a slump. She left to wake you up! But you stayed like a zombie, so she asked me to pretend to be her boyfriend to snap you out of it! And what happened? You met Calliope and almost forgot about her!"

Hearing the truth, Sylvester's phone slipped from his hand, and he sat frozen on the sofa, his mind blank. Was this news a relief or a curse?

He had slowly moved on from Nina's departure. Calliope was pregnant with his child, but now fate was playing a cruel joke. He couldn't betray Nina, nor could he abandon the pregnant Calliope.

Sylvester grabbed his coat with a heavy heart and left the office. Employees along the way respectfully stepped aside, not daring to disturb him seeing his icy expression.

Driving to the police station, his thoughts were a mess. If Lucas's news was true, things would got tricky

The media had already caught wind of the hot topic, pointing their cameras at the two of them. The rumor that the married Sylvester openly took away his ex-girlfriend Nina was a sign of rekindled old feelings.

Sylvester's reputation was well-known. The reporters only dared to take photos and ask questions from a distance, not daring to block his way, so he easily took Nina away.

In the passenger seat, Nina, with tears streaming down her face, knew when to be strong and when to show weakness. Sylvester, with a cold expression, said, "Is this the situation you wanted? I warned you not to resort to any means for a moment of hype!"

Nina looked at Sylvester and softly said, "Sylvester, thank you."

Sylvester's response remained cold. "No need to thank me. Calliope is still waiting for me."

Was this a warning to her not to cross the line? Nina bitterly smiled. The once deep love had become so unfamiliar due to an accident. If it weren't for that accident, she wouldn't have made the sacrifice, and they wouldn't be so distant. But it wasn't her fault!

However, Nina was determined to drive Calliope out of the Moore family. Sylvester belonged to her in the past and would in the future.

Meanwhile, Calliope learned about the incident from the news. Confirming it was Sylvester, she was angry. Although she didn't like him, she was now pregnant. At this time, having rumors with an ex-girlfriend, what did that make her?

Calliope felt inexplicably angry, unable to explain why.

Jenny, while tidying up the room, tried to comfort her, "Mrs. Moore, I told you before. Mr. Moore is in the wrong; he already has such a wonderful wife like you at home...."

Calliope sneered. The grass is always greener on the other side. She had experienced Sylvester's fickleness and infidelity.

She touched her flat belly. The guilt of wanting to give up the child had dissipated. This child couldn't be born, no matter what.

Sylvester's car soon stopped in front of the luxurious Moore mansion. This was once Nina's residence, but she had given it all up.

She said she left to help him recover, but who could know the truth?
