Chapter 144

Relax? Who goes to relax in the middle of the night? Is he joking with her? Calliope thought, rolling her eyes. "Alright, alright, it's not like I have anything better to do," she said, closing the door and preparing to go back to sleep.

She had planned to take a nap in the afternoon, but was interrupted by a designer who came to make custom clothes for her. "Didn't you say you were taking me and the baby out to relax? Why do I need a custom evening gown?" she complained while cooperating with the measurements, feeling utterly exhausted dealing with Sylvester.

Sylvester suddenly appeared in the room, "Stop talking and just listen!" He startled Calliope; when did he become like an invisible man?

In the evening, at Matthew's birthday celebration, Calliope wore the meticulously crafted new dress, which fit quite well. She thought it was just an ordinary party, but it turned out to be the birthday of her ex-rival Lily's father. Sylvester, what are you up to?

"Why didn't you tell me this was a birthday party?" she whispered, tugging on Sylvester's arm, afraid of losing her dignity if she saw Lily's smug face.

Sylvester smiled meaningfully but didn't respond directly. He was actually planning to let Calliope witness some "interesting" scenes, like seeing Lily and David being intimate. That would be the highlight of the evening.

Sure enough, Matthew soon appeared, followed by a sweet couple: David and Lily. Seeing the pair who had once betrayed each other now inseparable, Calliope's eyes filled with disbelief and jealousy.

A faint voice came to her ear, "Who would have thought, their relationship seems quite stable."

Not far away, Lily, holding David's arm, walked over with a smile to greet them. "Isn't this Calliope? Come and say hello!"

Unable to avoid it, Calliope had to feign calmness and exchange pleasantries. "Thank you for the invitation," she said politely but coldly.

Lily beamed, "Calliope, you're pregnant too? That's wonderful! I heard you moved back to the Moore manor?"

"Yes, I did," Calliope replied with a light smile.

Calliope stared at David, her mind replaying his promises that he wouldn't contact Lily again. But now, faced with the harsh reality, her heart ached as if torn apart, yet she wanted to laugh. The moment their eyes met, it felt like a sharp knife stabbed her heart, making it hard to breathe.

She told herself: Calliope, you're pathetic, being deceived by David's lies for so long. Don't you know how much he loves Lily? How could he easily change his heart?

And that absurd idea of a heart transplant, thinking that changing hearts would prevent Lily from easily getting his love? Everything she did was in vain!

"Get me a glass of champagne, I want to have a drink with Mr. Andrew," Sylvester glanced at the couple, deliberately ordering Calliope around like a servant.

Calliope, still in a daze, heard Sylvester's words and didn't think much. She grabbed a glass from a passing waiter and handed it to him.

"Did I say I wanted champagne? Didn't I just say I wanted red wine?" Sylvester glared at the champagne in his hand, giving Calliope a dissatisfied look, treating her with no respect.

Calliope silently walked to the side, got a glass of red wine, and handed it to Sylvester.

Lily watched the scene coldly, feeling smug and thinking: Serves you right for trying to steal my man, ending up like this!

Sylvester wanted David to come out and stop everything, to see what he would do. As expected, as long as Lily was around, David wouldn't do anything. Such a realistic man, Sylvester really didn't understand how Calliope could fall for him.

Calliope returned with a glass of red wine, quietly watching David and Sylvester toast. She didn't say a word from start to finish, not knowing how to start.

"I want to get some fresh air," Calliope took a deep breath and whispered in Sylvester's ear.

"No need, the air here is fine!" Sylvester saw through her thoughts, pulled her into his arms, gave David a provocative smile, and led her elsewhere.

Most of the attendees were Matthew's business partners or high-ranking officials, many of whom Sylvester was familiar with. He introduced Calliope to each one: "This is my wife. When the baby is born, we'll definitely invite you to the celebration."

Calliope felt extremely embarrassed, with her big belly, listening to Sylvester's exaggerated introductions, and seeing the puzzled looks from others, she knew she had been set up. Because they had kept their marriage a secret, many were surprised by the news.

She felt like a puppet controlled by Sylvester. From the moment she stepped into the party, she seemed to have become part of his plan. But now, she just wanted to know what had happened to David.

"Can you let go of me now? The introductions are over," Calliope broke free, her face indifferent, putting down her glass. She had used up all her smiles for the day.

"It's not over yet. I want everyone to know you're my wife, not David's." Mentioning David's name again, he wanted to provoke her.

"Stop it!" Calliope interrupted sensitively upon hearing the name, then forcefully shook off Sylvester's hand and walked alone to the back garden.
