Chapter 94
Calliope shot him a dirty look and said, dripping with sarcasm, "Why don't you just rob a bank? Want money? No way!"
With that, she sped up, wanting nothing to do with this lowlife. She and Rose had the misfortune of running into him. She was already drowning in financial problems, and if he wanted to spill her secrets, so be it. She had no love for the Gray family, and the business mess between the Moores and the Grays was none of her concern. Worst case, she'd cut ties with the Moores! She was sick of Sylvester's arrogance; did he really think he was some kind of king?
She just wanted to uncover the truth soon so she could stop feeling so drained.
Tom spat in her direction and muttered, "Just 'cause you married rich, you think you're all that? If I can't get money from you, I'll hit up your husband. That guy's loaded!" He rubbed his rough hands together as he spoke.
Calliope got back to the Moore mansion with a stormy expression, suddenly realizing she had nowhere to go. The Gray family didn't want her, and her own home was a mess. Compared to that, the Moore family was a haven, but only because of the baby she was carrying. Without it, would she have any of this?
As she was about to go in, Jenny stopped her, suggesting a walk, saying it was good for pregnant women to move around more.
Calliope sensed something off about Jenny and couldn't help but ask, "Jenny, why won't you let me in? Is there something I shouldn't see?"
She pointed towards Sylvester's place.
Jenny quickly shook her head. "No, no, Mrs. Moore, you're overthinking. Let's take a walk."
It all seemed like a cover-up. Calliope took a deep breath and went straight to the point. "Is Nina with Sylvester upstairs?"
Her tone was flat, like it didn't matter to her. Jenny gave an awkward smile; Calliope was clearly sharper than she thought.
Sure enough, Nina and Sylvester were in the same room, and Jenny, worried Calliope would get upset, didn't let her go up, but she still figured it out.
Jenny's actions were for Calliope's own good. If she got emotional and it affected the baby, the Moore family would blame her, and she couldn't handle that.
"So, am I interrupting them?" Calliope sneered, her eyes full of mockery.
Jenny quickly tried to calm her down, scared that if she got angry and hurt the baby, she'd be out of a job. "Mrs. Moore, Mr. Moore was a playboy before, but since you came along, he hasn't been out and about. Miss Rodriguez is his ex, and men always have a hard time letting go of old flames, but we all know Mr. Moore's favorite is you. He just feels sorry for Miss Rodriguez."
Jenny's words were smooth, showing Sylvester's change while highlighting Calliope's appeal and cleverly distancing Sylvester from Nina. It was a real shame Jenny didn't go into stand-up comedy.
"Jenny, I get it," Calliope said with a forced smile.
Jenny gave an awkward smile.
Calliope didn't want to deal with Nina either, so she decided to grab a cab to David's hospital. She was worried about David, and by now, Tom should have cleared out.
Behind her, Jenny called out anxiously, "Mrs. Moore, where are you going? Mr. Moore said you can't go out."
Calliope ignored her. Who did he think he was, trying to control her like that? He was way out of line.
When she got to the hospital, Tom was already gone, having failed in whatever he was trying to do. As soon as she walked into the ward, David's smile was like a breath of fresh air. Calliope felt like all her troubles were worth it; with David around, she could find some peace.
"David, can I stay with you tonight?"
In front of David, Calliope was like a little girl. David sighed softly. "Sure, but it gets cold at night. If you can't handle it, go home."
Calliope quickly shook her head and said firmly, "It's okay, I just want to be by your side." A childlike smile spread across her lips.
David smiled silently and gently ruffled her long hair.
That night, Calliope stayed by David's side without moving until the first rays of morning light peeked through the curtains, gently brushing her cheek.
As the morning light appeared, Calliope slowly opened her sleepy eyes. Seeing David still asleep, she quietly went to the bathroom to tidy her hair and put on some light makeup, ready to start a new day. Little did she know, the Moore family was already in chaos!
Sylvester had discovered that Calliope hadn't come back last night and was frantically calling her, but Calliope had put her phone on silent to avoid disturbing David. Jenny told Sylvester that Calliope had briefly come home but left in a huff, thinking he was with Nina upstairs. Jenny guessed she was probably jealous.
That night, Nina had deliberately put on her most seductive nightgown and her favorite perfume, walking towards Sylvester. Normally, Sylvester would have eagerly embraced her, but tonight he was distracted, only focused on calling Calliope, who never answered. In a fit of rage, Sylvester smashed his phone on the ground.
An inexplicable worry gripped his heart. Maybe it was because Calliope was carrying his child? Sylvester speculated, unable to find any other reason for his concern for Calliope.
"Sylvester, do you really have no feelings for me at all?" Nina's big, watery eyes stared straight at Sylvester as she leaned forward, her chest barely covered.
Sylvester had no interest in her and said seriously, "Nina, you sleep in the bed; I'll go rest elsewhere."
"Sylvester, do you really think Calliope loves you? Haven't we seen enough of these tricks? She must have an agenda in approaching you; it's not genuine," Nina said angrily, standing in front of Sylvester with a look of grievance, as if she were the one being wronged.
"And what about you back then? Did you approach me for my money? Betrayers always have a bad ending." Sylvester looked at Nina with interest, his eyes sharp as if trying to see through everything.
