Chapter 126

"What about David?" Calliope couldn't help but shout. David couldn't leave her! Although she had appeared calm in front of the couple, she truly couldn't bear to lose him!

The busy signal from the other end of the phone interrupted the doctor's apology. "I'm sorry; we've done our best."

Calliope was furious. How could there be such an irresponsible doctor? They had clearly agreed; how could they give the heart to someone else?

When she arrived at the hospital, the nurse told her that the heart was already being transplanted in the operating room. Calliope stood there, feeling as if all her strength had been drained, making even breathing difficult.

Her hope had been ignited and extinguished in an instant. Why was fate so cruel to her? The successive blows almost made her collapse.

She walked heavily to David's ward. Through the glass, she saw David lying on the bed, his face pale, completely devoid of his usual handsome and sunny demeanor.

Calliope took out her phone, staring at Lily's name for a long time before finally mustering the courage to dial her number.

A lazy voice answered from the other end. "Who is this?"

"It's Calliope. I hope you can come and see David." Maybe David wanted to see Lily the most, even though she didn't like her at all!

"I just visited him a few days ago. I have things to do every day. Do you expect me to stay at the hospital with him all the time? It's not like he's sick because of me," Lily said indifferently. "But if he really dies, let me know. After all, I'm his girlfriend. I should at least attend the funeral."

"You're so cold-hearted! He loves you so much! How can you treat him like this?" Calliope was extremely angry.

"Say whatever you want. There are plenty of people who want to be with me; I don't need him. If I had known he had a heart condition, I wouldn't have started this relationship! Now that he's like this, what can I do? The fact that I haven't broken up with him already is more than enough!" Lily retorted, speaking her mind.

Calliope hung up the phone abruptly, unable to bear the cold and heartless words any longer.

She collapsed weakly into a chair in the corridor, looking exceptionally haggard under the harsh fluorescent lights.

Was life trying to drive her mad? Why did the people she cared about keep facing such tragedies?

At this moment, she even envied those who had already found peace in death.

In the office, Sylvester was drinking alone. These days, apart from drinking, he just stared out the window, lost in thought. No one could guess what was on his mind.

Robert walked over and gently patted his shoulder. "Seeing you like this really worries me. As a friend, I hate to see you in this state."

Sylvester pushed Robert's hand away. "It's not about some woman," he said, his tone flat and emotionless.

"Are you still denying it's about a woman? I just don't know what to do with you," Robert said, shaking his head. Sylvester's melancholic aura was getting stronger.

"I'm thinking about the surgery!" Sylvester snapped, his eyes flashing with anger.

Robert shivered and quickly changed his approach. "Alright, alright. You just play around with women; you don't have real feelings. It doesn't matter who you leave behind."

"Why are you looking for me?" Sylvester asked, recently having taken up smoking to ease his mood.

Robert lit a cigarette and sat down beside him. "I noticed you've been down lately, so I thought I'd take you out to relax. I know a fun spot. Want to join me?"

In the past, Sylvester would have definitely rejected such an offer with a curt, "Not interested, leave me alone."

However, this time, just as Robert was about to be disappointed, Sylvester unexpectedly changed his mind. "Alright, let's go."

Robert was stunned, his mouth agape. He hadn't expected Sylvester to agree.

"You're acting a bit strange today. Something feels off," Robert said, playfully touching both Sylvester's and his own forehead as if checking for a fever.

"Are we going or not? Stop talking so much!" Sylvester snapped at Robert.

"Aren't you bored staying here all the time? I'm just curious. Let's go, let's go," Robert said, hooking his arm through Sylvester's, afraid he might change his mind.

After navigating through several turns, they arrived at a hidden club.

Sylvester frowned at the sign. "Are you out of your mind? Why did you bring me here?"

Robert sighed. "Don't you remember? This is the club you agreed to join a while back. Though, you've never actually been here."

Hearing this, Sylvester looked puzzled. "Really? I don't remember that at all."

He stopped and warned, "I'm telling you, if there's anything illegal going on here, I'll shut this place down tonight!"

Robert was taken aback, thinking, 'Is he really going to go that far? If this gets discovered, it will be a disaster!'

Raising his hand in a gesture of sincerity, Robert swore, "I swear, I haven't touched anything illegal. I just brought some friends here to have a good time. There are indeed many beautiful women here—it's overwhelming, even for you!"

Thinking of Calliope, Sylvester's mind became a whirlwind of emotions. The anger in his chest felt like it could set the whole world on fire!

Since his secret marriage with Calliope, he had indeed reined himself in, avoiding places like this and even starting to take the company's affairs seriously. His grandfather had praised him for his improvement. But who could have predicted things would turn out this way?

As he entered, he realized he was once a regular at this rich kids' club. What else did this place offer besides indulgence and entertainment?

While Robert went to greet everyone, Sylvester found a secluded corner to sit down. Most of the people here were beneath his notice; they weren't worth his time.

Not far away, a middle-aged man with a greasy face was groping two girls. That man was Paul. Sylvester hadn't given him a second glance the entire time.

Robert noticed Sylvester's attitude and whispered, "Don't underestimate him. He's a nouveau riche, made a lot of money through various means in recent years. He loves beautiful women, just ignore him."

Sylvester's mouth twitched, clearly not taking Paul seriously.

When men gather, they naturally talk about women, especially since Sylvester's marriage had already made the news, it wasn't a secret in this circle.

An unattractive and crude man eyed Sylvester, sizing him up. "Mr. Moore, you look great. We've all heard about your marriage; what a pity. I have some top-notch girls. Interested in some fun?"

Detecting the mockery in the man's tone, Sylvester's lips curled into a knowing smile. "Do you think I need that?"

Robert immediately sensed Sylvester's anger. Now Sylvester was like a powder keg, ready to explode at the slightest provocation.

Robert regretted bringing Sylvester here. He could only hope they wouldn't cause a scene. If word got out, it would definitely make headline news tomorrow.

"Let me tell you, I recently came across some top-tier beauties. They're incredible! I've recorded a bunch of videos; you all know how much I love collecting these things!" Paul laughed, holding the woman next to him.

Sylvester felt a wave of nausea, grabbed a bottle of wine, and took several gulps, trying to suppress his inner rage.

Robert looked at him with a mix of concern and frustration. "Are you here to drink or to have a good time? I swear, you can't live without alcohol."

Suddenly, a pornographic video started playing on the screen, the content was extremely explicit. When Robert saw the figure on the screen, his eyes widened—

Paul proudly said, "This woman is so tender, and her skills are incredible! It's a shame you can't see anything once the lights are off, though."

Both Sylvester and Robert were furious. How could Calliope be involved with someone like Paul?

A bottle of red wine smashed onto Paul's head, blood splattered instantly. The people in the club screamed; no one expected Sylvester to make a move.

Paul clutched his head and cursed, "Sylvester, are you crazy? Are you trying to kill me?"

Sylvester rushed forward and kicked Paul in the chest, knocking him to the ground. Grabbing his collar, he yelled, "How dare you touch her? How dare you!" He punched Paul in the face, causing chaos at the scene.

Enraged, Paul shouted to his men, "Teach him a lesson! I'll take responsibility for whatever happens! Fight!"
