Chapter 138

"Who says a child without a father has no future? Even if Sylvester isn't here, you can still raise the child well!" David said angrily.

Indeed, if Sylvester were not around, Calliope would still insist on raising the child by herself. No matter how much David tried to persuade her, she wouldn't waver in her decision.

"Alright, Calliope, don't think too much about it now. Just eat your meal first. When the child is born, you can do a paternity test. The most important thing for you right now is to keep yourself in good health, understand?" David tried to soften his voice.

Hearing David's words, Calliope seemed convinced. She opened the door and took the bowl, "Okay, I'll eat. You should go home and rest too."

As night fell, Calliope couldn't sleep, her mind constantly filled with images of Sylvester. No matter how much she called out, there was no response. "Sylvester, it's Calliope. Please, just look at me."

Suddenly waking up from a dream, she felt her throat was extremely dry. She got up to get some water from the kitchen. Looking out the window, the silver moonlight poured over the earth like silk, bringing a sense of peace to her heart. It was as if she had returned to the days when she and Sylvester were together.

The next day at work, the entire office area was very quiet. In the CFO's office, David sat in silence, thinking for a long time. Suddenly, the ringing of his phone broke the silence. The name on the caller ID made him frown, it was the woman who had hurt him deeply, Lily!

At first, she had only seen him as a substitute. Later, as her position rose, she came back wanting to rekindle their relationship. David was very disgusted by this and almost hung up the phone. But then he thought about using The Smith Family's resources to fight against the Moore family, and a smile appeared on his face. "The meeting just ended, we can have lunch and catch up."

After setting the location, they soon arrived at the restaurant. Just like before, when David arrived, Lily greeted him with a face full of grievance. "David, I thought you would never see me again."

"How could that be?" David's smile was somewhat forced.

"Good, David, you know, after we separated, I missed you so much."

She missed him? Missed him dying? David snorted coldly. This woman, Lily, had left him when she found out he didn't have long to live. How could a vain person have true love?

"Alright, let's order first." David interrupted Lily and called the waiter.

Seeing that David wasn't in the mood to chat, Lily wisely kept quiet.

The next morning, Calliope went out to attend a parenting class. At the apartment entrance, she ran into Jenny, who was about to come in. Calliope knew Jenny was sent by John to take care of her, so she let her accompany her to the class.

On the way, Jenny felt very uneasy because Calliope remained silent and didn't ask if she knew Sylvester wasn't dead. Jenny held back for a long time but finally couldn't help it. As they got out of the car, she grabbed Calliope's arm and said guiltily, "Mrs. Moore, I really didn't mean to hide it from you. Mr. John Moore had instructed us not to reveal any information about Mr. Sylvester Moore, or there would be serious consequences."

Seeing Jenny so troubled, Calliope didn't want to say much. She gently patted Jenny's hand to show understanding and then went into the classroom. Jenny had to wait outside.

Throughout the class, Calliope's mind was elsewhere, completely uninterested in the teacher's lecture. After class, Jenny suggested they go to a nearby department store to buy some things for the baby, hoping to change Calliope's mood.

Calliope agreed, thinking it might help distract her. She had already spent enough time overthinking last night.

They went to the newly opened Winner Department Store, which was having a promotional event. Although it sold high-end brands, there weren't many customers. Calliope and Jenny wandered around, but Calliope seemed distracted.

"Mrs. Moore, this outfit is so cute. Your son will definitely like it." Jenny picked up a baby outfit to show Calliope, purely to cheer her up.

Calliope smiled, picked up the outfit, and casually asked, "Jenny, how do you know it's a boy? What if it's a girl?"

"Of course, it's a boy! Mr. John Moore keeps talking about wanting a grandson!" Jenny blurted out without thinking.

Hearing this, Calliope remembered what the butler had told her yesterday and asked, "I heard the child will be taken back to the Moore family after birth, is that true?"

"Yes, the nursery is already being prepared. And now the entire Moore family is overjoyed because Mr. Sylvester Moore is back." Jenny said unintentionally.

The nursery is already prepared? It seems the Moore family really values the child in her womb. But the thought of having to send her child back to the Moore family and never seeing them again made Calliope feel a pang of sadness. This was her precious baby, carried for ten months, and she wouldn't even have the chance to let the child know she was their mother?

"Mrs. Moore, what are you thinking about? Did I say something wrong?" Seeing Calliope in a daze, Jenny asked nervously.
