Chapter 131

In the hospital's back garden, after John left, Calliope stood there motionless for a long time. Her heart felt as heavy as lead, and she was frozen in place, unable to move.

Lucas knew everything. After finishing his rounds, he saw Calliope staring blankly as he passed by downstairs. He immediately went down and headed straight for her.

"How can you even show your face here?" Lucas glared at Calliope angrily. "How can you stand here as if nothing happened?"

"Then where should I go? Should I just disappear?" Calliope finally reacted after a long time, looking coldly at Lucas. Everyone was blaming her, but was it really all her fault?

"Shouldn't you reflect on yourself? I always thought you were a simple and kind girl, but I didn't expect you to be so scheming!" Lucas said angrily, feeling deeply guilty and regretful for his misunderstanding.

"Since you've seen my true colors, why don't you stay away from me? So that I won't drag you down with me when I'm unhappy." Calliope sneered and walked away. She couldn't help but laugh at how heartless she had become. If she wasn't pregnant, how would the Gray family treat her? The child she never wanted had become her last bargaining chip.

But, no matter what, she suddenly felt reluctant to part with this child. Even if John didn't agree to the agreement, she decided to have this child, at least as a small compensation for Sylvester.

Nina came to the hospital for a follow-up and accidentally learned from Lucas that Sylvester was hospitalized. After questioning him, Lucas told her everything.

"Calliope, you bitch!" Nina gritted her teeth in hatred. She had repeatedly warned Sylvester to stay away from Calliope, but he wouldn't listen, and now he was in this situation. What made her even more resentful was her own stubbornness. If she hadn't lied and said she loved someone else, none of this would have happened.

Nina cried continuously, trying to rush in to see Sylvester but was stopped by Butler. Butler told her that no one could disturb Sylvester's rest now, especially Calliope.

"Butler, just let me see him for a minute, just one minute!" Nina pleaded.

Butler shook his head. "I'm sorry, Miss Rodriguez. He needs to rest."

Unable to enter, Nina could only stand outside, looking at Sylvester lying in bed through the transparent glass door. She felt immense pain in her heart, and tears kept flowing. "Sylvester, I told you not to pay attention to her, but you didn't listen! Now look at you, lying here unable to move. Wake up. See how heartless your so-called lover is! Do you regret it now?"

Nina was on the verge of collapsing from her tears. "If I hadn't lied and said I loved someone else, our relationship wouldn't have become so strained. Sylvester, please wake up. Even if you want to yell at me, I deserve it. It's all my fault for being too excessive back then."

Her sobs echoed down the hallway, prompting someone to come and complain. Finally, with the help of medical staff, she managed to calm down.

Meanwhile, Calliope returned to the hospital but couldn't find Sylvester, causing her to completely break down. "Where is Sylvester?" she cried out, almost losing control as she grabbed every passing staff member to ask.

Onlookers pointed and whispered, "Is she okay? She seems really distressed."

Eventually, security had to intervene to escort the distraught Calliope away. She was extremely anxious. Could Sylvester already be dead? Just the thought of it caused her chest to ache terribly, and she couldn't stop trembling. Sylvester must not be in trouble!

On the other side, to prevent any accidents, John had already taken the unconscious Sylvester on a private plane to Frostholm and sent someone to inform Jack. No matter what means, they must protect the child in Calliope's womb. Only then would the Moore Group consider funding the near-bankrupt Gray family business for redevelopment.

After Butler conveyed John's instructions to Jack, Jack breathed a sigh of relief and immediately drove to the Moore manor. He never expected that this time, hope would once again fall on Calliope, and he regretted the things he said at the hospital.

Calliope couldn't find Sylvester at the hospital, so she took a taxi, urging the driver to go faster and faster. When she arrived at the Moore manor, Jack was already waiting for her.

Seeing Calliope get out of the car, Jack's face was full of smiles. He approached her, holding her hand, and asked, "Calliope, how are you? Is the baby in your belly okay?"

He was wondering, 'Calliope wouldn't have done anything harmful to the fetus, would she?'

But Calliope was anxious, her mind full of thoughts about finding Sylvester. Seeing Butler, she immediately rushed forward, tightly grabbing his arm, and asked, "Tell me, is Sylvester already dead?"

Hearing this, Butler's anger flared up. He shook off Calliope's hand and exclaimed, "How can you be so cruel? Are you really hoping for his death? With such a heartless attitude, aren't you afraid of karma?"

Calliope was taken aback but persisted, "Is Sylvester dead or not?"

"Unfortunately for you, he's not dead! He went to Frostholm for surgery. Just wait, when he comes back alive, he'll make you pay!" Butler glared at her, gritting his teeth. In fact, he didn't know if Sylvester would survive the surgery.

Calliope's heart filled with hope. So Sylvester wasn't dead, and he went to Frostholm for surgery! She felt a wave of relief wash over her. She really didn't want to lose him.

Seeing that Butler's words had slightly eased Calliope's expression, Jack also relaxed a bit.

In Calliope's room, Jack sat down, took a deep breath, and looked at her. "Calliope, don't take what I said at the hospital to heart. I was too nervous, and that's why I acted that way. Are you still in pain?"

"Since when did you start caring so much?" Calliope sneered. Although she didn't understand why her father was suddenly so concerned, but she wasn't about to be easily swayed.

Jack felt a surge of anger but managed to smile patiently. "I know you're upset, but you have to understand, the Gray family's many businesses are counting on this money. Without it, I'm finished."

"What does your downfall have to do with me? Where were you when I needed money? When I was looking for a job? When I was in trouble?" Calliope fired back, her voice unwavering.

Jack didn't expect such intense words, but he knew now wasn't the time to argue. "Calliope, I'm actually here to persuade you to keep the baby. After all, it's my grandchild."

Calliope looked up at him, her eyes full of confusion, wondering when he started caring about family so much.

"Stop acting. John sent you, didn't he?" She asked. John took Sylvester away, and although he agreed verbally, John wasn't someone who would let things go easily.

"You're so smart! Actually, think about it, the child is your future too. Besides, even if Sylvester doesn't make it, the Moore family's assets will still need an heir. If you have this child, won't the entire Moore family legacy eventually belong to you and your child?"

Calliope didn't care about wealth or inheritance. Her only worry was her son's safety. "What did John promise you for this?"
