Chapter 92

"Get out of the car," Sylvester said, his voice colder than a winter breeze. Nina just gave a small smile, hopped out, and started walking towards his place.

"I'll have the butler set you up," Sylvester tossed out the words and breezed past her without a second look.

Nina stopped in her tracks. Did that mean she wasn't allowed in the villa?

Three years ago, they lived here together. She knew every nook and cranny, every spot filled with memories. Now, there was a new woman in the picture.

Calliope, after catching the latest news, decided she needed some fresh air. The news had rattled her. Was Sylvester's kindness just an act? Was he only interested in the kid?

"Where are you going?" Sylvester asked, his face dark as he eyed the dressed-up Calliope.

Calliope glanced at Nina behind Sylvester and scoffed. "None of your business."

Lucas showed up, breaking the tension among the three. He gave an awkward smile. "My shoelace is loose, just tying it."

He bent down, then froze, realizing he was wearing dress shoes. TV show tricks don't work in real life, making things even more awkward.

Sylvester's eyes stayed on Calliope, his voice calm but firm. "Didn't I tell you to let me know when you go out? Why did you go off on your own? Do my words mean nothing to you?"

Calliope laughed bitterly. "How funny. I'm leaving so I won't be a bother. You two carry on, just pretend I'm not here."

She strutted away in high heels, trying to tick Sylvester off, even though pregnant women shouldn't wear heels.

Sylvester wanted to go after Calliope, but Nina suddenly fainted in his arms, so he had to take her back first.

Not far away, Calliope snorted, her tone rising, eyes full of mockery.

Such an old trick, and Nina was still using it. Sylvester fell for it. These old flames were still burning!

Lucas was stuck, helping Nina felt wrong, pulling Calliope back felt wrong too, making him the odd man out.

He looked at Nina, puzzled. Was she trying to win Sylvester back? Lucas was torn, happy to see it but worried Calliope's stress might harm the baby, the Moore family's child.

As the taxi headed to her destination, Calliope asked the driver to wait while she ran into the supermarket to grab some food and essentials for David. At the checkout, she realized she was short on cash again.

Money was always tight, especially with David's medical bills piling up, and Tom constantly finding excuses to ask for cash. From Sylvester, she couldn't get a dime.

Nina could get a hundred million, but Calliope couldn't get a cent. The difference was night and day. Thinking of Nina's frail appearance made Calliope feel sick.

Back in the taxi, she finally arrived at the hospital. Seeing David in bed, her mood started to calm down. She said softly, "David, I got some food for you."

David, always gentle and elegant, smiled at her. "No need, you've been running around. You must be tired. Rest first."

Calliope sat beside him, the sunlight making her look radiant. He secretly wished for a simple, trouble-free life.

"Calliope, you've really grown up. But why didn't you tell me about you and Mr. Moore?" David smiled, ruffling her hair affectionately. It warmed Calliope's heart, but his smile stiffened when he mentioned Sylvester.

Calliope got up, poured a glass of water for David, and handed it to him, but her words were hesitant.

"You need to be careful. I've heard a bit about Sylvester's temper; it's pretty bad. Does he treat you well?" David had never asked about these things before. Maybe it was because Calliope married into a wealthy family, or maybe there were some unknown secrets between him and Sylvester.

"Well, I get used to it, David. I just wish you could get better soon." Calliope's words were sincere. Her love for David was never fake. For him, she could give everything, even put up with Sylvester.

Maybe, to Sylvester, she was just a game, but her true love was always David. So, Sylvester's good or bad no longer mattered to her.

In the hospital, Calliope hesitated. Should she use this rare moment of freedom to end this small life, or just go back to the suffocating surveillance of the Moore family?

Calliope quietly made her way to the gynecology department. Every woman's face was clouded with sorrow, some alone, some with company.

For a moment, she was indecisive.

Her hand touched her slightly bulging belly, where a new life was growing.

Calliope wandered the corridor for a long time, and coincidentally ran into the nurse who had helped her with her wound last time.

The nurse saw her struggle and smiled lightly. "Thinking about having surgery?"
