Chapter 103
Sylvester glanced at Calliope, who was shooting daggers at Nina. Honestly, Calliope was all about the drama and was ready for Nina to bring it on.
Jenny cut in at just the right moment, "Mr. Moore, Mrs. Moore took a sip. We need Lucas to check on her since he's a doctor."
The mention of Lucas made Sylvester's face darken. He could never forgive Nina and Lucas, even if it was all just an act; it still left a bad taste in his mouth. But thinking about the baby Calliope was carrying, he said with a heavy heart, "Call Lucas over."
When Lucas showed up, he quickly got the gist of the situation and finally looked at Nina. She was relentless in her quest to get back with Sylvester. As for Calliope's baby, he wasn't planning to keep it.
"The baby's fine, but Calliope needs to rest," Lucas said with a smile as he packed up his stuff.
Since Lucas walked in, Sylvester hadn't given him a single friendly look. Hearing this, he said coldly, "If everything's okay, then you should leave. Why are you still here?"
Lucas didn't mind. He knew Sylvester had it out for him, but he didn't care. He wasn't about to live under anyone's judgment.
With that, everyone started to disperse. Sylvester headed upstairs, with Nina trailing behind, giving Calliope a nasty look before leaving. Calliope acted like she didn't notice and said to Lucas, "Leaving already?"
Jenny cleaned up the turtle soup and left, leaving just the two of them in the room. They both knew the score. Lucas shook his head, holding his medical kit. "I still need to check on John, then I'll be out of here."
Calliope nodded without saying a word. As Lucas was about to leave, he said earnestly, "Listen, it's better to get rid of this baby. You don't know the Moore family's business. Keeping the baby won't do you any good."
Calliope sneered. She wanted to, but the Moore family's obsession with this baby left her with no choice. "Do you think I'd survive if I did that, given how much they value this baby? They'd kill me as a sacrifice for the baby."
Lucas thought for a moment, realizing she was right, sighed, and turned to leave.
Upstairs, Sylvester looked at Nina with annoyance. "Why are you following me?" Nina's eyes were still brimming with tears.
"Don't cry to me. I'm not buying it. Stay away from Calliope, or don't blame me for being heartless; you brought this on yourself!" Sylvester glared at Nina. He didn't want a repeat of today's incident. He was well aware of his situation; this baby might be the only proof he had ever existed.
"I really didn't mean it, Sylvester. Don't be mad." Nina tried to grab Sylvester's sleeve, but he dodged it, his eyes full of disgust. "If anything happened to my kid, could you take responsibility? If something happened to Calliope, could you? Stop pestering me; we broke up two years ago."
Nina wasn't ready to give up. Sylvester was her first love, and first loves always held a special place in a woman's heart. Nina was no different.
"I left you back then to make you pull yourself together. I didn't think it would end up like this!" Nina panicked. Sylvester's anger today made her feel the growing distance between them. He had never been this mad at her before.
"You think I'll believe that? I don't need you to do irrelevant things to motivate me. Did your way make me pull myself together?" Sylvester was clearly ungrateful.
Nina sat silently on the cold floor, speechless. Sylvester gave Nina one last look, turned, and left, leaving her alone in her sorrow.
Facing difficulties, Nina became more resilient. Each challenge made her stronger, and those seemingly unattainable goals only fueled her determination to achieve them.
She wiped the tears from her cheeks and went downstairs. By the lake, Lucas was staring at the water. She approached quietly and gently patted his shoulder.
Lucas turned around, a smile tugging at his lips. "You scared me. I didn't hear you coming."
Nina smiled awkwardly. "I'm really sorry for the past, making you do such boring things with me. Now Sylvester misunderstands you, and I feel really bad."
Lucas understood. She was talking about pretending to be her boyfriend, which indeed made Sylvester cold towards him.
Lucas unconsciously rubbed his nose. "It's okay. He never liked me much since we were kids. I'm used to it. But your situation isn't looking good."
Nina nodded calmly. "That's why I need your help. We need to reclaim my rightful place together."
Lucas, though hoping for Calliope and Sylvester to break up, couldn't morally support such actions. Breaking up others' relationships was unethical. He smiled faintly, his tone slightly distant. "Sorry, I can't help you with this. You should find someone else."
"Why? Why won't you help me? Didn't we agree before?" Nina stared at Lucas, puzzled by his sudden change of heart.
