Chapter 177

"Not yet, Mrs. Moore went for a prenatal checkup," Butler replied.

"Prenatal checkup?" Sylvester glanced at his watch. At this hour, the hospital should have closed already, and she hasn't come back yet? He was so concerned about Calliope that he neglected Dione's feelings.

Michael and John both looked displeased instantly; Sylvester didn't consider the occasion when he spoke.

Dione was also unhappy. Although she still had a smile on her face, she was already angry inside. What did Sylvester mean by this? It was one thing to care about Calliope in front of her, but to call Calliope his wife?

She was supposed to be Sylvester's future wife, but did Sylvester still have feelings for Calliope?

In Samuel's villa.

Calliope was waiting for dinner. She couldn't wait to finish eating and leave this dreadful place. Staying here for even one more second made her feel suffocated, the mystery and fear making it hard for her to breathe.

"What's wrong? You seem very nervous," Samuel put down his book, took off his glasses, and looked at Calliope.

Calliope's smile stiffened, and she said, "No, I'm just a bit hungry."

She was hinting for Samuel to start dinner quickly so she could leave sooner. She didn't want to suffocate to death.

"Be patient, making a meal for a pregnant woman isn't easy," Samuel said naturally, looking harmless.

Calliope was curious about Samuel's attitude. If Samuel really wanted to do something to her, he shouldn't be acting like this. Samuel now felt like a friend, inviting her over as a guest, showing no hostility.

After a while in the kitchen, Samuel came out and announced that dinner was ready.

Calliope followed Samuel to the dining room, which was very grand and luxurious. After a quick look around, Samuel invited her to sit down.

The long dining table had two candlesticks in the middle. After the butler and servants served the dishes, Samuel waved them away.

Sitting at opposite ends, Calliope thought the table might be too long. Was it to coordinate with the dining room?

She worried that they wouldn't hear each other when talking, which would be quite funny.

Samuel seemed very satisfied and gestured for Calliope to start eating.

Calliope was indeed very hungry. The food looked good, so she picked up her knife and fork and took a bite.

"How is it? Not bad, right? I instructed the butler to make these. You don't have to worry; everything is safe for a pregnant woman. It won't harm you at all," Samuel said with a smile.

Calliope smiled and started eating. However, Samuel was being overly meticulous, considering everything. At the Moore manor, she never had special treatment. She ate what everyone else ate, knowing what she could and couldn't eat.

What was Samuel's hidden motive behind this careful care?

She couldn't understand Samuel's intentions. Did he bring her to his villa just to have dinner with her?

If that was the case, Samuel's purpose was too simple. There was no need to go through all this trouble for a meal.

Calliope couldn't figure it out. After a long hesitation, she decided to eat since she was hungry.

While eating, Calliope occasionally glanced at Samuel. He ate naturally and elegantly, showing signs of high education and good upbringing.

From his behavior, Samuel didn't seem like a perverted person. Or was this all an act to make her feel at ease?

And since Zoey was Samuel's sister, why did Samuel approach her? Was he planning to kill her unborn child to avenge Zoey? The thought made Calliope's hand tremble, and her knife and fork fell on the table.

"What's wrong? Don't you like the food?" Samuel asked with concern.

"No, I just lost my grip," Calliope smiled and continued eating.

But her mind was still on the previous thought. Was Samuel seeking revenge? Were the supernatural events at the Moore manor Samuel's doing?

But the Moore manor was heavily guarded with cameras everywhere. After several supernatural incidents, John had all the security guards patrol day and night, making it hard to get in. How did Samuel come and go freely?

Or did Samuel have an inside man at the Moore manor? Could it be him?

The thought of that person startled Calliope, making everything seem like a coincidence.

The incidents at the Moore manor could only be explained if he was the inside man. The two incidents that happened to her and Lucas's strange behavior made her very suspicious.

"Mr. Davis, since Zoey is your sister, do you know about the supernatural events at the Moore manor in recent years?" Calliope couldn't contain her curiosity and asked.

Samuel remained silent, continuing to eat and drink.

Calliope thought he might not have heard her, so she raised her voice and asked again, "Mr. Davis, was the female corpse in Zoey's clothes found at the Moore manor related to you?"

Samuel initially ignored Calliope's question, but when she asked again, he looked at her for a long time and simply said, "Don't talk while eating or sleeping."

Calliope's expectations were crushed by this response. Was he unwilling to admit it?

Although Samuel didn't explicitly admit it, Calliope felt that he was responsible for the incident.

No one knew what happened between the Moore family and Zoey back then, or how Zoey died.

She suddenly remembered what Lucas had told her: Sylvester's first action upon waking was to kill Zoey. So, was Zoey killed by Sylvester?

If so, why didn't Samuel directly seek revenge on Sylvester? Why create these supernatural events to scare the Moore family? His thinking was too unusual.

Calliope was curious but still very hungry. Despite the awkwardness of the dinner, she had to admit that Samuel's chef was very skilled.

After a silent meal, Samuel wanted Calliope to stay for dessert, but she insisted on going home, fearing the Moore family would worry.

Samuel finally agreed to send her back.

As Calliope was about to leave, she looked at Samuel and asked curiously, "Why do I never remember what happens between us? I always feel like you're a very strange person."
