Chapter 113

"Why, scared to look at me?" Sylvester asked with a grin. Calliope thought that grin was as creepy as a devil's, so she just gave an awkward smile back.

"Calliope, I'm telling you, from now on, you gotta take me to all your prenatal checkups!" Sylvester stood in front of her, blocking her sunlight. Calliope thought Sylvester was gonna scold her, but this was unexpected.

"Alright, I'll take you with me," Calliope said, catching a glimpse of Sylvester's mock-angry face out of the corner of her eye. Suddenly, she found him kinda cute.

"Sylvester, why don't we get a dog? They're so adorable." Calliope's eyes sparkled with excitement as she gestured.

But Sylvester just looked at her with deep disdain. "You're not a kid, and you still want a dog? No way." Sylvester frowned. He wouldn't admit he actually didn't like dogs.

"Do you have some kind of trauma? Were you bitten by a dog when you were a kid?" Calliope stared at Sylvester in disbelief, looking him up and down.

Sylvester felt a bit uncomfortable being scrutinized like that. "Calliope, have you had enough?" Sylvester gave her a warning look. The experience of being bitten by a dog as a kid made him swear off dogs forever.

"Sylvester, what if the baby feels lonely after it's born?" Calliope suddenly changed the subject. She worried that if Sylvester's surgery failed and she passed away, leaving the child to deal with all the adults alone, what kind of scene would that be? Thinking of this, Calliope felt a pang in her heart.

"Aren't you still here?" Sylvester looked into the distance, his expression unclear. Although he was smiling, it was chilling. In fact, he had known for three years that his chances of survival were slim, so what could he do?

"Calliope, you think I'm selfish, don't you?" Sylvester suddenly asked, his eyes full of expectation.

Calliope was the first woman in a long time who dared to confront him and speak her mind, which made her particularly unique in his eyes.

"At first, I did think you were selfish, but after getting to know you, I found out you're great. It's just that all your goodness is hidden away," Calliope confessed, smiling charmingly.

Sylvester was stunned at first, then burst into hearty laughter. That laugh made Calliope recognize that despite Sylvester's past unruliness, he had emotions and could show a beautiful smile like anyone else, which made him endearing.

"That's right, you should smile more; otherwise, how can you appreciate the beauty of life?" Calliope said, lying down on the grass to enjoy the sunlight. Sylvester lay beside her, closing his eyes to rest.

They didn't notice that not far away, Nina was scratching marks on the window, unable to stand the sweetness between Sylvester and Calliope.

"Calliope, one day, I'll take Sylvester back!" Nina whispered to herself.

Time passed slowly. To keep Calliope company, Sylvester took several days off, filling each day with activities.

First, he took Calliope to the movies. He was surprised they had never gone out together before. Halfway through the movie, Sylvester turned to kiss Calliope, only to find she was already asleep.

After the movie ended, Sylvester nudged Calliope awake with a gloomy face. Calliope woke up suddenly, seeing the audience had mostly left, and casually popped the last piece of popcorn into her mouth. "It's over. Let's go then."

She walked quickly through the crowd, with Sylvester trailing behind, feeling frustrated. He hadn't expected such an unromantic woman, who fell asleep during the movie and woke up as if it was nothing.

"By the way, this movie ended really quickly, and it wasn't that interesting. I can't tell those celebrities apart; they all look the same to me," Calliope said to Sylvester as she walked.

Sylvester held his forehead, having forgotten her face blindness, especially when it came to those very attractive celebrities whom she couldn't distinguish at all. All his effort in choosing the movie was wasted as she didn't understand it at all. Sylvester felt a surge of frustration.

After a while, seeing no reaction from Sylvester, Calliope turned to look at him, only to meet his gloomy gaze. She touched her nose, puzzled. "What's wrong? Why are you staring at me like that?"

Sylvester walked up to her, gritting his teeth. "Did you sleep well just now?"

"Not at all, my neck is still sore." Calliope pouted, clearly dissatisfied.

Facing Calliope, Sylvester was completely helpless. Couldn't she see that he was very unhappy right now?

"Let's go to the zoo next," Calliope suggested. Sylvester nodded lightly, without objection.

At the zoo, Calliope completely let herself go, showing an unprecedented innocence. She held a stick to deliver vegetables to the lion's cage and turned to ask Sylvester, "Why won't it eat the vegetables?"

Sylvester felt very speechless. Lions were carnivores. Didn't she know this basic fact?

Earlier, Calliope had happily run to the supermarket, claiming she wanted to feed the lion, and bought a bag full of various vegetables. Sylvester thought it was for some special purpose, but it turned out to be for feeding the lion. It was truly amusing.

"Lion, come eat the vegetables, they're fresh!" Calliope called out loudly, drawing curious looks from the surrounding visitors.

Calliope looked innocently at Sylvester. "Why is everyone looking at us?"
