Chapter 133
Tears welled up in Calliope's eyes as she hurried out to find the attending physician, bursting into the office without even knocking.
The moment she saw her, Robert was in conversation with the doctor. Calliope's tears flowed uncontrollably, heartbroken. "Who donated the heart? Whose is it?"
She snatched the organ donation agreement from Robert's hand and saw the signer's name: Sylvester!
It was all arranged by Sylvester before his death. Although Robert didn't quite understand the reason, he had no fondness for Calliope.
"He's gone. Is this what you wanted?" Robert's voice was filled with anger. The news hit her like a bolt of lightning, leaving Calliope momentarily stunned.
Then she was sobbing uncontrollably, her tears streaming down her face. Was Sylvester really dead?
Countless memories flashed through her mind.
For the rest of the afternoon, David stayed in the operating room. The red light indicated the surgery was still ongoing.
Sitting alone on a garden bench, Calliope gently touched the organ donation agreement, her tears falling like a relentless rain onto the paper. The trees behind her occasionally shed a few leaves in the wind, silently sharing in her sorrow.
The heart-wrenching pain in her chest was almost unbearable, as if a sharp blade were piercing her. It turned out the heart could indeed feel pain.
This feeling was so intense and clear that there was no escaping it.
Not far away, Robert quietly watched Calliope sobbing, his heart filled with complex emotions, unable to describe his feelings at the moment. Was Calliope truly grieving or just pretending?
Six months later.
Calliope was seven months pregnant, walking with difficulty. At the entrance of a supermarket, she carried a shopping bag, walking down the street with a heavy heart. She had become much more introverted, always looking worried.
Under a maple tree outside the supermarket, a black car was parked conspicuously. Inside, Samuel watched Calliope come out of the supermarket with a smirk, muttering to himself, "The baby is almost due, and Sylvester will be back soon. The show is about to begin."
With that, he started the car and quickly drove past Calliope, quietly leaving.
A red sports car approached, flashy and eye-catching. As the door opened, Mia stepped out, the car's color matching her personality perfectly.
"Calliope, you have no shame. You've destroyed Sylvester's life, and now you act like nothing happened. How can you be so heartless?" Mia's haughty demeanor showed she feared nothing.
Calliope was used to her taunts. Since Sylvester's accident, Mia had often come to harass her, saying increasingly hurtful things, but Calliope never responded. After all, she did owe Sylvester.
"Are you deaf? I warned Sylvester not to marry you, but he didn't listen. Are you satisfied?" Mia, seeing Calliope ignoring her, grew angrier and knocked the items out of Calliope's hands.
Fruits and vegetables scattered, and Calliope glanced at them indifferently, sighed, and turned to leave. She really didn't want to deal with Mia.
Mia grabbed her wrist. "Avoiding the problem won't make it go away. Let me tell you, you'll never be as good as Nina."
Every time she was compared to Nina, Calliope felt terrible. She shook off Mia's hand. "Are you done? If so, I'm leaving. Besides, I never claimed to be better than Nina. If she's so great, go find her and stop taking it out on me."
Mia, furious, lunged at her again, but Calliope calmly said, "The baby in my belly is a priority. If anything happens, you'll be the Moore family's sinner."
For a long time, Calliope's name was taboo in the Moore family. No one dared mention it. Even if the servants mentioned it unintentionally, they would be severely punished. The Moore family provided monthly nutrition fees and a house for the child, but had no other contact. Calliope and the Moore family maintained this delicate state.
She hadn't divorced Sylvester, though the family no longer considered her as Sylvester's wife.
"You're shameless! Besides this child, you're nothing! When the baby is born, you'll pay the price!" Mia glared at her, as if she wanted to tear her apart.
Calliope said nothing. There was a time when she wouldn't have tolerated such words, but the years had softened her edges, teaching her to face reality in silence.
David happened to come to visit her and immediately stepped in to help. "Miss Moore, please stop bothering Calliope. She's carrying your Moore family child. If anything happens, can you bear the responsibility?"
"Well, you found a new love so quickly. Is this fair to Sylvester? " Mia sneered at Calliope.
"Miss Moore, please show some respect. I'm just Calliope's brother," David patiently explained.
Mia hesitated, then her phone rang. After the call, she said, "You're lucky this time. Next time, you won't get off so easy."
Watching Calliope get into the car and leave, David frowned. "You often get stopped and scolded by her. How do you put up with it?"
Calliope said indifferently, "What else can I do?"
"Come home with me," David said, holding her hand.
"Home? Can I? They fight every day, and this child might be miscarried because of it. Their attacks are unbearable for me." She smiled bitterly.
David looked determined. "Then I'll find you a place to stay."
