Chapter 95
Nina was just about to spill her heart out when Sylvester's words hit her like a ton of bricks, leaving her totally speechless and embarrassed.
Sylvester sneered, "Who are you to judge anyone? You're no innocent because you're the third wheel this time."
Nina's eyes went wide with shock as Sylvester hit her where it hurt the most, and tears started streaming down her face. "Are you rejecting me?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
She looked down, feeling completely lost.
Realizing he might've gone too far, Sylvester quickly pulled her into a hug and tried to soothe her. "I would never reject you; you're still you."
A tiny smile crept onto Nina's lips. Sylvester was always like this; the moment she cried, he didn't know what to do.
That night, Sylvester insisted on sleeping alone. Nina whined, "I won't do anything; I just want you to hold me."
Sylvester stayed silent, but Calliope's proud face popped into his mind.
Nina started moving around restlessly, her body pressing against Sylvester. Desire flared up in him, but he pushed her away and said coldly, "Stop moving, or I'll throw you out!"
Nina finally settled down and soon drifted off to sleep.
Sylvester, on the other hand, couldn't sleep a wink. He got up, lit a cigarette, and wondered why he couldn't sleep with a different bed partner. He was puzzled.
Sylvester kept dialing Calliope's number, but all he got was a busy signal.
The next morning, the Moore family noticed Calliope was missing at breakfast and saw Sylvester bringing Nina to the table. They had a pretty good idea of what went down and tried to find Calliope, but no luck. Under some heavy questioning, someone hinted that Calliope had stormed off because of Sylvester's attitude.
John and Michael were livid when they heard. John slammed his desk in the study. "That troublemaker is at it again! We finally have a kid on the way, and now this!"
From a corner, a voice muttered, "If both women are pregnant, wouldn't that be perfect? But Calliope's got a strong personality; if she gets too mad, it could hurt the baby. And Nina, she might have trouble getting pregnant. We're losing on both fronts here."
John nodded. "Nina's got a bad reputation for messing with a rich marriage. Who knows how many times she's had abortions or used birth control? Whether she can get pregnant is still up in the air. But Calliope's already pregnant, and I'm pretty happy with that!"
The person in the corner turned slowly, a hint of anger in their eyes. "Isn't it because of that ridiculous incident years ago? If it weren't for that, would Sylvester be like this today?"
John lowered his head, admitting his mistake quietly, and the person finally fell silent.
Whenever Sylvester came up, John couldn't escape a scolding from Michael, almost to the point of wanting to end it with his own life.
Meanwhile, Calliope was having a leisurely breakfast outside and came home to find the place in chaos. She stopped a servant and asked softly, "What's going on?"
The servant was startled but then overjoyed. "Mrs. Moore is here! She's back!"
It was just one night away, not a disappearance, but their exaggerated excitement amused her.
After dealing with the Moore family's questions, she went back to her room, claiming she had gone home, knowing they wouldn't check.
On the stairs, Nina had a servant hold a bowl of chicken soup in front of her, eyes full of provocation. "Calliope, you came back just in time. Last night, I shared a bed with Sylvester. Soon, he will be mine."
She covered her lips and let out a string of silvery laughter, full of charm and allure.
Calliope's lips curled into a mocking smile. "I'm curious where your confidence comes from. Sylvester is my legal husband now. Your past with him is just fleeting. Who would refuse a freebie?"
Nina's anger flared, but she suppressed it. Calliope was indeed hard to deal with. "Then you should leave Sylvester soon. Mrs. Moore should have been me."
She wanted to provoke Calliope into making the first move. If she acted first, the Moore family would resent her. But if Calliope did, it would be different. So, Nina tried various ways to anger her.
"Why don't you tell Sylvester yourself? As long as he agrees to divorce, I won't cling to him," Calliope remained calm, preparing to walk gracefully towards the stairs.
Nina suddenly smiled, her words full of threat. "Calliope, do you believe I can harm your child?"
Calliope paused. The child was her bottom line. Despite having thoughts of giving up, she wouldn't let anyone touch her child.
With a wave of her hand, the chicken soup fell to the ground, splashing hot soup on Nina's fair neck, turning it red.
A fierce look flashed in Calliope's eyes as she coldly warned, "I advise you not to target my child, or you'll regret it." With that, she calmly walked up the stairs, not sparing Nina another glance.
