Chapter 169
A month ago, it was the two of them who found David's entry into Winner Group suspicious, so they had the finance director add a few dubious items to the financial statements to deliberately make things difficult for David, forcing him to come up with a result.
Sylvester stood up and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, silent. He wanted David to leave the company, but he also had his concerns. He knew David was now with Lily, and The Smith Family's power was not to be underestimated. If David really got together with Lily, it would be quite troublesome for him.
"How about this, help me arrange a lunch with Matthew," Sylvester said to Robert.
Noon, Moonlight Serenade Restaurant.
"Sylvester, it's an honor to have lunch with you. You're a busy man," Matthew said, sitting across from Sylvester, smiling and making small talk.
Sylvester smiled lightly and poured Matthew a cup of coffee. "You flatter me. I'm just a junior. It's my honor to have lunch with someone as busy as you."
"You always know how to say the right things," Matthew laughed, accepting Sylvester's compliment.
"Matthew, I'm here today to introduce a marriage prospect for Lily," Sylvester said mysteriously.
"A marriage prospect? Tell me, who is it?" Matthew was very interested. Sylvester knew that although Lily was with David, Matthew didn't openly oppose it, but he didn't approve of it either, given David's average family background.
"Matthew, do you remember our company's executive president, Robert?"
"Yes, I remember Robert. He's quite talented. I've met his grandfather a few times," Matthew nodded, showing interest.
"How about introducing him to your daughter? Robert is indeed talented. He has been managing many things for me at Winner Group, and his family has some power too, which would be a great help to your business," Sylvester continued to tempt Matthew with conditions. If Matthew agreed, he could deal with David however he wanted.
"Your idea is good, but the main thing is to see what Lily thinks. You know she's currently focused on being with David, and I can't persuade her otherwise," Matthew sighed, feeling helpless about Lily.
"Matthew, Lily is still young and doesn't understand the pros and cons. Over time, she'll understand David's character, and we won't have to worry. Don't you agree?" Sylvester continued to persuade, making Matthew more interested in Robert.
In the end, Matthew agreed to let Sylvester arrange a meeting with Robert. If Robert was a good person and considering his family's power, Matthew had no reason to refuse.
Back at the company, Robert was furious with Sylvester.
"To deal with David, you could have sold out anyone, but you sold me out," Robert complained angrily to Sylvester.
"You said you'd do anything for Winner Group. What's wrong with sacrificing a bit of your charm?" Sylvester sighed, comforting Robert.
Robert frowned. "What if, over time, Lily really falls in love with me?" He said, looking at himself in the mirror narcissistically.
"Honestly, you're not as handsome as David," Sylvester teased Robert.
Robert was instantly angry and retorted, "If I'm not as handsome as David, then Lily won't like me. Why don't you seduce her yourself? I'll clean up the mess for you."
"You're asking for it!"
Sylvester's teasing backfired, and he was teased by Robert instead. He didn't want to get entangled with a woman who had been involved with David, especially since he already had Calliope.
The atmosphere returned to normal. Robert thought deeply and realized this was the only way to handle the situation. There was no one better than him to make Matthew accept, so he agreed.
Sylvester seized the opportunity. "Let's arrange a dinner with Matthew tomorrow night."
"Fine, but you better give me a raise, or I won't do it!" Robert demanded money.
At that moment, the secretary walked in.
"Mr. Moore, Miss Rodriguez is outside and wants to see you," the secretary said to Sylvester.
Nina?
He had left her at the bar last night and took Calliope away. His attitude was clear enough. Why was she still clinging to him?
Robert gave Sylvester a mischievous look and said, "Your trouble is here. I'm leaving." He didn't want to see Nina.
"Get me a cup of coffee," Sylvester said to the secretary as Robert left.
The secretary was puzzled. "What about Miss Rodriguez?"
Before the secretary could finish, Sylvester looked up sharply, and the secretary immediately understood and fell silent.
Sylvester couldn't help but think of the past. When he first got together with Calliope, she would chase away any woman who came looking for him without a word, and they wouldn't hold any grudges.
Realizing he was thinking of Calliope, Sylvester's lips curled into a smile. How could he be thinking of her?
"Why won't you see me? You're clearly in the office. Why did you tell the secretary to say you're not here?"
Just as Sylvester was about to look at some documents, Nina's voice appeared in the office.
Sylvester looked up indifferently at Nina's angry face. The secretary hurried in. "Mr. Moore, I'm sorry. I couldn't stop Miss Rodriguez."
"You don't need to come to work tomorrow," Sylvester said coldly.
The secretary was terrified, but Sylvester's glare silenced her, and she left with a pale face.
In Sylvester's eyes, there was no such thing as being unable to stop someone or being unable to reason with them. These were just excuses for incompetence.
After the secretary left, Sylvester looked at Nina disdainfully. "When I say I'm not here, it means I don't want to see you. Can't you understand that, Miss Rodriguez?"
When did they become so distant? Nina frowned. "You don't want to see me? You left me at the bar last night and took Calliope away without an explanation. Now you say you don't want to see me."
"Yes, I don't want to see you. So what?" Sylvester was angry at Nina's questioning. In his world, no one, whether in the company or the Moore family, dared to speak to him like that.
