Chapter 143
The two were at each other's throats, making the atmosphere so awkward that Jenny didn't know what to do. Calliope smiled gently and said, "Since Miss Rodriguez doesn't drink coffee, Jenny, ask her what she would like to drink and prepare it for her."
Despite the awkward situation, Calliope didn't lose her composure.
Nina looked at Sylvester with grievance, seemingly hoping he would say something fair for her: "Sylvester, do you still love Calliope? If that's the case, I'll step aside."
As soon as she said this, Calliope's face turned ugly. Sylvester snorted, "Love? She's just a tool for having my children. Once she's done, I can throw her away."
Nina became happy again, a smug smile reappearing on her face.
Calliope was heartbroken and was about to leave.
"Sit down!" Sylvester ordered, "Peel an apple for me!"
Calliope felt humiliated but still obediently sat down, picked up a knife, and started peeling the apple, her face dark.
Seeing her expression, Sylvester's eyes turned sharp: "Calliope, did you originally plan to use this knife to dig out my heart for the man you love? Are you in pain now seeing that I'm still alive?"
Sylvester's words were full of gritted teeth, and he grabbed Calliope's hand forcefully.
Calliope frowned and struggled: "You're hurting me, let go!"
"Let go? When you wished for my death every day, did you think about letting go?" Sylvester's eyes were bloodshot, filled with murderous intent.
"Yes, I initially wanted you dead!" Calliope's eyes were full of resentment, "But later, I was moved by your love, and it was really hard being caught between pain and guilt. Do you know how painful it was for me when you were critically ill? First, it was your critical illness notice, then David's. How much do you think I can bear? If it were you, what would you do? For the past six months, I always thought you were dead. You can't imagine the regret, self-blame, and longing I felt. After you came back, you only made things difficult for me, and everyone misunderstood me. I chose to endure it silently. But I want to tell you, I'm not your pet, I'm a person with feelings!"
Calliope said, sobbing uncontrollably, and Sylvester finally slowly let go of her hand.
The scene became even more emotional, and Jenny felt even more sorry for this young woman as she watched Calliope cry.
"I've said everything I needed to say." Calliope wiped her tears and glanced at Nina, "I just hope you know I don't owe you anything. Sometimes what you see isn't necessarily the truth."
With that, Calliope turned and left the living room, leaving Nina and Sylvester staring at each other, neither daring to say anything more. Nina then realized that their feelings for each other were far deeper than she had imagined.
In fact, Nina didn't come to the Moore manor without a purpose. She had heard that Sylvester had an important social event in two days and needed to bring a female companion, and recently, he had been changing the girls around him frequently. So, she decided to make sure he took her, thinking that this way, she would definitely make the headlines again.
Maybe the media would write something like "Sylvester rekindles old flame with ex-girlfriend Nina"! With their talents and looks, they would be the perfect match.
However, she never expected to be directly rejected by Sylvester. He clearly stated that he wanted to take Calliope this time, and no matter how much Nina pestered, it was useless, making Nina almost want to grab the small knife on the table and throw it at the eyesore Calliope!
In the morning, when Calliope was still groggy, Sylvester suddenly knocked on her door, saying he had something to discuss. Helpless, she had to drag her tired body to open the door: "What do you want so early in the morning? I'm not fully awake yet."
Sylvester looked at her with disdain: "It's already this time, and you're still catching up on sleep? Hurry up, I have something to tell you."
Calliope was at a loss for words: "Alright, what's so urgent?"
"You're coming with me to a banquet tomorrow night." His tone was firm, leaving no room for negotiation.
"What kind of banquet?" Calliope frowned, she didn't like this kind of self-righteous man.
"To take you and the baby in your belly out for some relaxation, okay?"
