Chapter 137

"Yes, I'm not dead. What? Disappointed?" Sylvester let go of the woman's hand beside him and walked coldly towards Calliope.

It was their first meeting in half a year, and he had expected it to be very shocking. But seeing her sad expression, he felt a bit uncomfortable inside.

"Of course, I'm not disappointed. I just feel that all the guilt and longing over the past six months were in vain." Calliope mustered the courage to look Sylvester in the eyes, trying to confirm if this was the Sylvester she knew. It had been a long time since she had seen such indifference in his eyes.

"Regret? Calliope, you're quite the actress!" Sylvester sneered, once again pulling the woman beside him into his arms, as if showing off.

"You're here to see if I'm really not dead, and then find a way to kill me again, right?" Sylvester's eyes grew colder and colder. Then, he sneered and said, "I won't let the same mistake happen again. And I will make up for my losses. Everything you caused me, I will get back double!"

The last sentence was almost spat out through gritted teeth, each word stabbing into Calliope's heart like a knife.

After speaking to Calliope, Sylvester turned to David, thinking, 'What's so good about him?'

Sylvester originally wanted to go straight into the house, but looking at David, he couldn't suppress his inner anger. So he struck a cocky pose and walked over to David, asking, "I'm curious, could the baby Calliope is carrying be yours?"

"Sylvester!" Calliope was furious.

"If I'm wrong, you can correct me. Whose child is it?" Sylvester turned to stare at Calliope. "Sorry, maybe I shouldn't ask you. Maybe you don't even know who the father is."

"Sylvester, I know you're alive, and I'm very happy. If you need an explanation for the past, I can give you one. But the child in my belly is yours, whether you believe it or not!" Calliope's eyes were firm, not allowing Sylvester to doubt that the child was someone else's.

"Mine? If it's mine, why did you try to kill me?" Sylvester looked at her with a cold smile.

"I have my reasons." Calliope replied.

"Your reasons? Like how you don't love me and are in love with your own brother? Or how you pretended not to know your father just to deceive me into thinking you were the daughter of the Gray family? Do you take me for a fool?" Sylvester grew more agitated as he spoke, leaving Calliope speechless.

The atmosphere grew tense, and the woman beside them was clearly getting impatient. She affectionately held Sylvester's arm and said coquettishly, "Alright, Mr. Moore, you just recovered; there's no need to get angry with this vicious woman. Let's go inside."

"Get lost!" Sylvester said, holding the woman as they went inside, completely ignoring his legitimate wife's feelings. To him, this was nothing compared to the hurt she had caused him before.

No matter what, Calliope was legally and nominally Sylvester's wife, yet even that young model dared to humiliate her in front of Sylvester. It seemed the misunderstanding between her and Sylvester was too deep to resolve, and he really had no place for her in his heart anymore.

At least Sylvester was still alive, otherwise, she wouldn't know how much guilt she would feel. Without love, it didn't matter; she truly only loved David. It was only after Sylvester's incident that she realized her feelings for David were more like dependence, not true love.

Seeing Sylvester's arrogant demeanor, David felt very resentful. Moreover, this luxurious estate would all belong to Sylvester in the future. Thinking of this, David felt waves of envy, jealousy, and hatred. Could the difference really be that significant with the same mother but different fathers? One grew up in the slums, while the other was born into immense wealth.

Calliope returned to her apartment and went straight to her room. Recalling Sylvester's harsh words and the beautiful times they had spent together, she couldn't stop her tears from flowing. The days ahead would be hard for her.

"Calliope, open the door and come out to eat something. Not eating is bad for the baby," David said worriedly, standing outside the door with freshly cooked porridge.

"David, go back. I really don't want to eat anything," Calliope replied with a sob.

David placed the tray on the ground, squatted down, and said softly, "Calliope, I know you're feeling terrible right now, and I know if it weren't for me, you two might not have ended up like this. But if you don't eat, what about the baby in your belly? Can you really bear to ignore your child?"

Hearing David's words, Calliope let out a bitter laugh. "But David, didn't you hear? Sylvester doesn't even acknowledge this child as his, thinks it's a child with an unknown father. What's the point of living like this?"
