Chapter 77

The family of three just couldn't stop arguing. Grace started feeling like she was getting the short end of the stick and began to whine, "Now Calliope's getting the better deal. If I had known, I would've let Vivian marry him instead! It's a secret marriage anyway, so why all this drama now?"

"Why didn't you say that earlier? What's the point of bringing it up now?" Jack was fuming too. This whole mess was their own doing, and now they had to deal with that jerk Tom and pay him hush money!

Grace was full of resentment. "How was I supposed to know it would turn out like this? Sylvester looked perfectly healthy, not like he was going to die anytime soon! Now Calliope is getting all the benefits!"

"Stop talking nonsense. The real issue is how to handle that scoundrel Tom! If he tells John, we're all screwed!" Jack was most worried about this. The Moore family was so prestigious; how could they accept a daughter-in-law who was an illegitimate child? It would be a joke to the Moore family!

Grace's eyes lit up. "We can pay the hush money, but no way are we giving him $100,000. At most, $10,000. Tell Calliope that's it, not a penny more!"

The next morning, on the luxurious bed at the Moore manor, Calliope was trapped by Sylvester's arm around her waist, unable to move.

She glanced down at the faint hickeys on her chest, feeling annoyed!

Calliope quietly slipped out from under his arm, lifted the thin blanket, and inched towards the edge of the bed, afraid that Sylvester would notice.

Suddenly, Calliope accidentally fell onto the carpet. The noise woke Sylvester from his sleep, and he sat up abruptly, looking down at the floor.

Calliope got up in pain, looking up to meet Sylvester's handsome face and that slightly wicked smile.

"What game are you playing?" His voice was magnetic and lazy, very seductive.

Calliope got up in a huff. "Morning exercise!" She grabbed the thin blanket and wrapped it around herself, planning to head to the bathroom.

Unexpectedly, Sylvester extended his long arm and pulled her back. "Let's do it together."

Together?

Seeing herself being overpowered again, Calliope thought, 'Is it going to happen again?

"Are you really reported to have kidney disease? You must be on stimulants!" She seriously doubted the truth of those reports; he didn't look sick at all!

Sylvester leaned close to her ear with a wicked smile, deliberately lowering his voice. "Ever since I took the RenewalKidney you gave me..."

She stiffened all over!

RenewalKidney was clearly given by Mia, not her!

"No protection, no way." She stubbornly turned her head. They didn't use protection last night, and if this continued, what if she got pregnant?

Sylvester's face darkened, and he announced in a very serious tone, "I don't like that stuff."

"What if I get pregnant?" Calliope blurted out. Sylvester sneered. "Then have the baby. It's not like we can't afford it."

Calliope was at a loss for words. She never planned on having a kid with Sylvester!

Thinking fast, Calliope frowned. "My stomach hurts, I think my period's coming. I need to go to the bathroom." She pushed Sylvester away and darted into the bathroom.

Lying on the bed, Sylvester started to think deeply. Calliope's mind seemed to be working overtime.

Her little schemes couldn't escape his sharp eyes.

Hiding in the bathroom, she leaned against the door and let out a long breath. The hospital checkup showed no signs of pregnancy, but her period was almost a week late, which was pretty weird.

"Could it be that my period won't come this month?" She found it hard to believe. This had never happened before, but thinking about the doctor's words that she wasn't pregnant, she felt much more at ease. Otherwise, she would definitely think she was pregnant.

Looking at herself in the mirror, Calliope noticed she seemed to have become more beautiful recently. To be precise, her skin had improved, which was really strange.

At that moment, there was a knock on the bathroom door. She frowned and asked, "What?"

Sylvester's lazy voice came from outside the door. "There's a call for you."

Calliope took one last look at herself in the mirror, praying for her period to come soon. She opened the door, and Sylvester was leaning against the wall, looking roguishly handsome, holding out her phone to her. "It's Jack."

Calliope took the phone, thinking that the money must have been secured.

With Sylvester present, she had to clear her throat and speak gently, "Dad, what do you need?"

Jack's cold voice came from the other end of the line. "I've sent someone to deliver a check to you. It will be placed in a gift box and given to you shortly. Take it to that scoundrel and tell him if he dares to cause trouble again, don't blame me for being rude!"

After hanging up, Calliope looked at the phone. This time, Jack was so straightforward? This wasn't like him at all; even giving her living expenses wasn't used to be this easy.

Sylvester walked to the bar, poured a glass of water, took a sip, and casually asked, "What did he say?"

"Nothing much, just said he was sending me some gifts and told me to rest well." Lying had become second nature to her, and her acting skills were top-notch, enough to get into a film academy with ease.

"Sylvester, as your wife, is it too much to ask you for some pocket money?" She mustered the courage to walk up to Sylvester and said.

Sylvester drank the water in one gulp. "Not at all."

Hearing this, Calliope's eyes lit up. Did that mean she could ask for money freely?

"Then I want some!" She extended her fair hand, the lines on her palm clear, her face full of pride.

However, Sylvester mercilessly refused, lightly tapping her palm. "You're not qualified."
